THE MIKADO
Set in the fictional Japanese town of Titipu, The Mikado satirises British society, customs and pretensions through a farcical Gilbertian plot brimming with humour.
In the topsy turvy world of The Mikado, flirting is punishable by death and NankiPoo (the son of The Mikado disguised as a wandering minstrel) attempts to escape from the formidable Katisha and into the arms of his love, Yum-Yum. Meanwhile Ko-Ko, the hapless Lord High Executioner has much on his mind and needs to work hard to avoid his own decapitation!
The Mikado is arguably one of the most popular operas ever written and includes numerous memorable musical numbers: Three Little Maids, Tit Willow and A Wandr’ing Minstrel. Just the ticket for a fun-filled visit to the Royal Hall.
THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD
The Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London. Colonel Fairfax, a gentleman, soldier and scientist is wrongly accused of sorcery, imprisoned in the Tower and sentenced to be beheaded within the hour. To avoid leaving his estate to his accuser he secretly marries strolling gypsy, Elsie Maynard. Jester Jack Point is also in love with Elsie but agrees to the marriage knowing that Fairfax will soon be executed. However, Fairfax escapes, throwing the Tower into confusion and setting in motion a number of intriguing plot twists ending in tragedy for one of the players.
THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE
One of the most enduringly popular of Gilbert and Sullivan’s great comic creations, The Pirates of Penzance is full of memorable melodies. Jam-packed with sentimental, swashbuckling pirates who are really peers of the realm, a completely dotty Major General and a bumbling bunch of hopeless but hilarious policemen, what could possibly go wrong?

In this classic tale of greed and guilt, Flabbergast Theatre’s Macbeth fuses a rigorous and respectful approach to text and storytelling to bring a magical, lucid interpretation of Shakespeare’s blood-soaked tragedy to life.
Flabbergast gives us an instinctive view of Shakespeare’s most wretched tragedy, working to draw out the parallels with modern society. At its heart, the dominant recurring theme and fundamental narrative that powers The Tragedy of Macbeth is the masculine fear of feminine power; and in this sense, the play is as pertinent today as it has ever been. This timeless work examines what it meant to be a man, and what it meant to be a woman and underscores the social contracts between the two that dictate the actions of the protagonists.
Playing to their strengths and background in puppetry, clown, mask, ensemble and physical theatre, Flabbergast present the bard’s original text accompanied by and supported with exhilarating live music to produce a provocative and enjoyably accessible show. The beautifully performed music and vocal work combine into a powerful live soundscape creating an atmosphere that both compliments and juxtaposes the action. With a stripped back set, and an aesthetically arresting design, the tightknit ensemble of actors performs a dark and visceral manifestation of the work’s essence and underlying themes.

Lord Knows the chair of The Whombledun International Invitational Tennis Tournament has died and his son, Hugh, is suspicious. The police won’t take the case so Hugh calls in Perry & Penny Pink, private investigators.
What transpires has all the hallmarks of multiaward-winning New Old Friends particular brand of theatrical hilarity: a cast of four performers play countless characters with quick-fire changes and quicker wits. Expect mirth, murder and mayhem, with a side of tennis.
Crimes on Centre Court, based on a story from the award-winning podcast (#2 in iTunes fiction chart), toured to great acclaim in 2021 and is an ace of a show which you’re sure to (fifteen) love.
This deucey treat will rally the spirits and leave you wanting a second serveing of the volley of gags and visual delights. You won’t see it game set and matched anywhere else.
Join Armonico Consort for a programme which embraces the French passion for pretty much everything from, food to literature and music, and from art to, well, national strikes. Nobody does it better than the French!
Alongside the fabulously triumphant and arresting Te Deum by Charpentier (a work whose main theme is still used by the Eurovison Song Contest) are his lesser-known compositons, paired with those of Lully and Delalande. The work of these fine composers epitomises the brilliance of the French baroque in pretty much every form. A further highlight of this programme is a short work by Rameau, which many hail to be the most beautiful piece of music ever written.

Frank Hardy has a gift. A gift of healing.
A frayed banner hangs outside a desolate village hall. The sick, the suffering and the desperate arrive from out of the wind and the rain. They come in search of restoration, a cure. They are promised ‘a performance’, an opportunity to spend an intimate moment with a mercurial showman, who offers hope and salvation to the afflicted.
Through the 1950s and 1960s, Hardy and his wife, Grace, travel to remote corners of Scotland and Wales, before eventually returning to Frank’s native Ireland. Accompanied by his manager Teddy, they move from village to village, bringing with them an unpredictable mix of theatricality and the spiritual.
Using four enthralling monologues to interweave the stories of these three intriguing characters, Brian Friel takes us on an extraordinary journey of shifting perspectives and uncertain memories.
Brian Friel (1929-2015) was an award-winning Irish playwright and author. He is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s greatest dramatists, having written over thirty plays across six decades. His major works include Translations, Dancing at Lughnasa, Molly Sweeney and Philadelphia, Here I Come!

BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Rupert Everett stars in John Mortimer’s celebrated autobiographical play.
Growing up in the shadow of a brilliant and eccentric barrister, a man whose tea-time conversation could take in music hall, adultery, evolution, the ridiculous inconvenience of sex, Shakespeare, and the importance of avoiding anything heroic in wartime, the son continually yearns for his father’s love and respect.
A Voyage Round My Father shines a light on this delicate relationship between a young man and his father who adored his garden and hated visitors, and whose blindness was never mentioned, and introduces us to world of hilarious eccentrics, bumbling headteachers and exasperated relatives.
John Mortimer was a novelist, playwright and a barrister in his own right, renowned for his political dramas and creator of Rumpole of The Bailey. Rupert Everett’s leading roles have included the multi award-winning film My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Importance of Being Earnest, An Ideal Husband, Dance With A Stranger and The Happy Prince. Julian Wadham starred with Rupert Everett and Kenneth Branagh in the original West End production of Another Country. His extensive screen career has included roles in The Madness of King George, The English Patient, Victoria & Abdul and Downton Abbey.

Tess is a groundbreaking adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles. An ensemble of performers weave together Hardy’s words and the extreme physicality of circus to tell this tale of power, loss and endurance. Against a backdrop of shifting projections the cast wield wooden planks, climb shifting walls and move through ropes and swathes of linen to evoke the vast landscapes and interior worlds of Hardy’s Wessex. It is a story which still has extraordinary relevance for our times in its incredibly nuanced evocation of female relationships, sexual desire, consent, privilege and poverty. This retelling captures the beauty, heartbreak and yearning of the novel and draws upon the incredible strength of the circus body to create a Tess as heroic as Hardy intended.

A new story inspired by the classic novel by Mary Shelley. Written and directed by
Séan Aydon
1943. Whilst Europe tears itself apart, two women hide from their past at what feels like the very end of the world. And one of them has a terrifying story to tell…
“I created life. You don’t believe me but it’s true. I didn’t start from scratch of course but out of portions and odd ends I made something –alive. But what I created… it wasn’t a superhuman. It was a monster.”
This new thriller from the team behind The Picture of Dorian Gray, inspired by the classic gothic novel and complete with a stunning original score explores the very fabric of what makes us human and the ultimate cost of chasing “perfection”.
Frankenstein is an electrifying reimagining of the world’s favourite horror story that will set minds and spines tingling. Not suitable for under 12s.

Wild Arts is a company of fine musicians and creatives, presenting opera with effervescent storytelling and quality performers, without the staid trappings of traditional opera.

One of the greatest British comedies ever written returns to Malvern after a successful West End run. Michael Frayn’s celebrated play serves up a riotous double bill – a play within a play. Hurtling along at breakneck speed, Noises Off follows the on and offstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through the fictional farce, Nothing On. From the shambolic final rehearsals before opening night in Weston-super-Mare, to a disastrous matinee in Ashton-Under-Lyme seen entirely, and hilariously silently, from backstage, before we share their final, brilliantly catastrophic performance in Stockton-on-Tees.
