The Brand

Founded in Florence, Italy in 1972, Malo has remained committed to its ethos: understated, timeless - effortlessly chic and wearable luxury.

Malo is a high-end men ’ s and women ’ s clothing and accessories brand known for its cashmere products, which are the top of its line and the company ’ s core business since 1972. All production of every garment is 100% accomplished in Italy while adhering to the highest of quality standards and engineering production; the vast majority of Malo knitwear is produced in two Malo-owned and operated production houses in Florence and Piacenza. The remaining knitwear is outsourced to local Italian artisans. Malo yarns are spun from the finest fibres in the world, hand selected in Mongolia and woven in Italy. “Hands want to see, eyes want to caress ” . This literary citation, taken from Goethe’s Roman Elegies V, best expresses the Tuscan brand’s philosophy. This reflect Malo’s close ties to culture and the values that set the company ’ s creations apart: excellence, elegance and love for beauty, giving rise to collections that privilege timeless style over fleeting trends. The pieces in Malo collections embody a sensorial luxury as the brand strives to put its customers at ease, designing sweaters, dresses and outerwear that fit like a second skin. Born in Florence in 1972, in a few years became a leader in the production of top cashmere knitwear. The clothing is crafted entirely in Italy. The company has two main sites based in Campi Bisenzio, Florence and in Borgonovo Val Tidone, Piacenza, and each site upholds the Malo brand’s values: made-in-Italy products, excellence, handcraftsmanship and care to details. Malo uses certain 70s English looms, with finishings by hand, to ensure high quality, unique products. The old machineries are a precious value of the brand, creating unique sweaters made as in the past. In addition to these two production sites, which the company directly controls, a network of different small, highly specialised and well-trusted italian companies form an integral part of Malo’s production network.

The encounter between cultures, a current and inspiring theme that traces the history of the most precious yarn in the world, cashmere. A path that caresses the Himalayan plateau, home of snow, and then touches the Far East in search of close encounters with nature and those who live there; the Andes to learn the secrets of the precious fibers destined for the garments of the Kings. Sweaters with three-dimensional seams, interweaving and inlays, soft embroidered reliefs and Jacquards creating a refined elegance. The first step - and one of the most important - in the production of Malo apparel is the choice of yarn. The finest yarns are sourced in Mongolia, and the Florentine company purchases the raw fibre locally. It is collected by hand in the spring when Cashmere goats shed their winter coat – and it is processed directly in Italy in a production chain under Malo’s meticulous oversight. Malo use only the white for white, the best quality cashmere.

Malo produces and sells men ’ s and women ’ s clothing and accessories. Knitwear and knit accessories constitute its core business and account for 70% of revenue. The brand identity is centred around knits and Malo’s style, offering a range of elegant, sophisticated and contemporary garments. The innovative items that best reflect Malo’s signature style are the deconstructed blazer in cashmere cloth and the homewear collection, which is also in cashmere and which combines the brand’s philosophy (comfort is the quintessence of sensorial luxury) with a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere.
