“We invest constantly and considerably in training and mentoring for all of our people to ensure they intimately understand the sensitivities and values of the cargoes they manage and consequently apply the right measure of protection,” underlines Frantz.

INVESTING IN QUALITY AND SECURITY A company of Wallenborn’s size and reach necessitates strict regulations and certifications. “We have invested considerable amounts of time and money in the best independently audited international validations to improve our quality and to align with our customers’ own standards,” remarks Frantz. In addition, their validations as an authorised economic operator and a regulated agent streamline logistics processes and strengthen security in the supply chain. Within the last ten years alone, it has been nothing but expansion and progress. In 2008, Wallenborn became a regulated agent, which enables them to carry secured air freight as approved and required by the aviation authority. In 2009, they obtained the ISO 9001 quality certification, which addresses some of ISO’s best known standards. Another significant milestone was in 2012, when Wallenborn was among the first in the world to become TSR (Trucking Security Requirements) certified, and the first asset-based company in the EMEA region to be certified at levels 1, 2 and 3. “TSR is a global risk management programme of processes and protocols designed to protect vulnerable products from criminals, which is an essential security measure in our line of business. The certification allows us to transport high value cargo and secured air freight.” Always aiming to provide customers with a reliable service, a year later, in 2013, Wallenborn was one of the first companies to become GDP (Good Distribution Practice) certified, a major stepping stone in their ability to confidently service pharmaceutical clients. GDP is an EU standard that must be met to ensure that the quality and integrity of medicines is maintained throughout the supply chain.

which reduces flights and increases the cargo loaded on flights.” In order to increase the size and capability of its transport fleet, the enterprise has spent an average of approximately €5 million annually over the past five years. This investment also means that they operate one of the greenest transport fleets in Europe: 100% of Wallenborn owned trucks that drive internationally are compliant with the European Union’s “Euro 6” emission standards. Elsewhere, Wallenborn is proud to have created the largest solar panel equipped warehouse in Luxembourg installed in 2015. The project is Luxembourg’s first “megawatt” solar installation and to date has generated over 700MWh of energy. DEDICATED CUSTOMER FOCUS “Our differentiating factor is our desire to put our customers at the heart of everything we do and to do everything possible to understand their challenges and provide them with solutions that others cannot imagine,” explains Frantz. The role of the branch offices is to focus on customers and provide optimum levels of local expertise and personal service, while the head office in Luxembourg is where most functions have been centralised to optimise performance and incubate ideas and innovation. Wallenborn plans to further its growth, both organically and inorganically, seek new niche markets, expand its focus on e-commerce and continue to strengthen its presence in Europe. 

EUROPE’S GREENEST TRANSPORT FLEET Wallenborn controls a clean, modern and advanced fleet of more than 900 vehicles. Sustainability is at the forefront of their operations: “We have been actively reducing our carbon footprint for many years, challenging our people to put sustainability first and operating the cleanest possible fleet,” states Frantz. “In fact, our entire business model is based on reducing carbon intensity of the air cargo supply chain by offering distribution networks to and from the larger European airports,
