‘BOO’fest: affordable family fun By Cathy Allen Boo! It’s what everyone is talking about. Your Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau is gearing up for its first “BOOfest, a family-friendly Halloween festival set for 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 13 at the Procter Camp and Conference Center, 11235 State Route 38, London, just five miles from I-71. Tickets are on sale now at participating locations around Madison County. This affordable family event starts at only $5 per child (ages 2 to 12) and $10 per adult. Children under two are admitted at no charge. A $50 family package comes with two adult tickets, two child tickets, four hayride passes, two pumpkins, game tickets and four s’moremaking kits. Additional child tickets may be added to the package deal at the regular price. The first-year festival is presented by your Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hurt/Battelle Memorial Library, Procter Camp & Conference Center and Humane Society of Madison County and major event sponsors Flyer’s Pizza & Subs and RE/MAX Leading Edge. “BOOfest will feature a children’s activity area, food vendors, games, prizes and entertainment. Among the highlights is a haunted village, complete with a cast of creepy characters. The cost to tour the village is $5, half of which will go to the Humane Society of Madison County. Also on tap is a Battle of the Bands, set to take

place throughout the event. Each band will play for about 30-45 minutes. Visitors will cast votes for their favorite performers with cash. The winner will receive a cash prize, gift cards and music-themed gifts. Headlining the battle is Uncle Fester’s rock band, performing at 8 p.m. Interested bands must submit a demo of their music and an application, available online at www. madisoncountychamber.org. With “BOOfest, the Chamber aims to raise 20 percent of its annual revenues. The Chamber also operates Madison Future, Inc. Community Improvement Corporation, the county’s economic development arm, and the Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Chamber, Convention and Visitors Bureau and Community Improvement Corp. are nonprofits that have greatly strengthened our local economy with 4,000 jobs created or retained, half a billion dollars invested in our communities through industrial and infrastructure development, nearly $2 million in grants for infrastructure development, nearly 400 small business or entrepreneurs served and over $500,000 per year in tourism dollars spent in our communities. This work has made it possible for our other non-profits, small and large businesses, schools and hospitals to succeed and thrive. Sponsorship of “BOOfest for as little as $25 and attendance at the event will ensure that these organizations can continue to serve the

Uncle Fester’s Rock Band to “blow up “BOOfest By Sarah Metze

With the Madison County “BOOfest Halloween Festival fast approaching, the headliner for the Battle of the Bands, the Uncle Fester’s Rock Band, is gearing up for a spooky show! The Uncle Fester’s Rock Band is a classic rock band out of Columbus, Ohio formed within the past year and a half. The group draws on the 70’s and early 80’s classic era of rock and roll. They proudly proclaim themselves as pioneers in the recent retro classic rock movement. Every effort is made to retain a vintage sound, feel and experience similar to seeing a show in the 70’s or early 80’s going so far as to use vintage analog musical equipment. Consider it a vintage throwback/tribute to the great guitar driven rock bands of the past.

Fester himself on lead guitar. No one quite knows where Uncle Fester himself came from, mysteriously appearing on the music scene one day, bringing with him his unique brand of retro rock and proclaiming that classic rock is back and here to stay! Come check out Uncle Fester’s Rock Band playing the hits of the 70’s & 80’s such as Bad Company, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Mountain, UFO and David Bowie, and usually a song or two that you may not have heard in a while that will take you back in time a few decades! The Uncle Fester Rock Band will be performing at the “BOOfest Battle of the Bands at 8:00 p.m. on October 13, at the Procter Camp & Conference Center.
