MICRO-FOLIE VIRTUAL MUSEUM

Description of VR contents

The installation is organized in cooperation with the French Institute in Hungary and La Villette.

ÉDOUARD MANET: A BAR AT THE FOLIES-BERGÈRE

What might this young woman be thinking in this lively cabaret? And what are the intentions of the seemingly menacing man in the top hat, whose reflection appears in the background? This thought experiment invites you to a real detective game while also offering an interpretation of one of the French painter’s final masterpieces. Let yourself be immersed in the melancholy radiating from Suzon’s gaze and follow the trail of the story!

ARNOLD BÖCKLIN: ISLE OF THE DEAD

An astonishing adventure awaits the viewer, who now has the chance to join Charon and approach the gateway to the underworld. The journey begins in the comfort of a modern apartment, which suddenly disappears: the walls crack, crumble, and are swallowed by the dark sea of time.

As the familiar surroundings collapse, the viewer is irresistibly carried across the water toward the Isle of the Dead. This hypnotic voyage is filled with poetic gravestones, architectural visions, and accompanied by the powerful symphonic poem of Rachmaninoff. It is a final journey, yet one from which the viewer emerges full of life.

CARAVAGGIO – IN TENEBRIS

It is as if the Italian painter’s career comes to life before our eyes: the rhythm of his creative flashes evokes the most sensitive, sometimes morbid aspects of the human figure, which we can now observe up close.

PIETER BRUEGEL – CONDEMNED TO PLAY

This experience brings us closer than ever to the figures in the Flemish master’s paintings—who now become lifesized—and invites us to take part in their childhood games. We are no longer in a museum, nor are we standing in front of a nearly five-hundred-year-old oil painting on wood; instead, we find ourselves in the middle of a lively playground, surrounded by joy and movement.

CLAUDE MONET – OBSESSED WITH WATER LILIES

Monet, in his pursuit of studying the effects of light and expressing emotions, gradually moved away from rigid forms and the realistic depiction of the world. This experience takes the viewer straight to Giverny, the heart of Monet’s artistic journey, where they can witness the swirling of colors and become part of an immersive adventure.

EDVARD MUNCH – THE SUN

At sunrise in December, over the Kragerø fjord, dazzling light bathes the ocean waves, the bare cliffs of the shore, and the narrow strip of green that separates the land from the sea. A finely drawn straight line divides the water and the sky. The Sun’s light envelops everything.

But now, the story behind the painting is also revealed, offering insight into Munch’s deep fascination with light—his almost religious connection to it. The scenes were filmed on location in Kragerø. The sunrise slowly, almost imperceptibly, disperses the winter darkness, immersing the landscape in soft morning light. The rays grow stronger, and the Sun—the source of life—becomes blinding. Meanwhile, we contemplate whether we can transcend physical boundaries. In the background, Richard Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony plays.

(The painter and the composer corresponded regularly, sharing a common passion for light and scientific experiments.)

POMPEII 360

Travel back in time and step into the ancient city of Pompeii on that fateful day when Mount Vesuvius erupted, destroying everything in its path. This breathtaking VR experience allows you to explore Roman streets and buildings up close, reliving the moments of catastrophe. Immerse yourself like never before in the world of antiquity and witness the final hours of Pompeii.

LOUVRE

In October 2019, to mark the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, the Louvre hosted a grand retrospective exhibition on the master’s artistic career. On this occasion, the museum collaborated with Emissive and HTC Vive Arts to offer, for the first time, a virtual reality experience that brought the story of Leonardo’s most famous masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, to life.

Thanks to the One-on-One with the Mona Lisa experience, visitors could examine one of the world’s most renowned paintings up close, discovering details invisible to the naked eye. The experience was based on the latest scientific research, revealing insights into the artist’s techniques and the identity of the model. Viewers could unravel the secrets of a masterpiece that has captivated generations.
