5 O’CLOCK

Sports Grill & Bar 2901 N.10th St. McAllen, TX. Monday - Thursday 4pm - 12am Friday & Saturday 4pm- 2 am Sunday 4pm - 12am

5 O’CLOCK is a new favorite hangout for the MAGX crew. A little over 5 weeks old, this Sports Bar & Grill in McAllen knows how to serve up a great time! One of the things I loved from the get go was the fact that Wednesday - Saturday they feature LIVE MUSIC. This is a big draw for us. Very few places have live music now. ROCKSTAR DENIED on Wednesdays, Mark Anthony Cavazos (our featured artist this month) on Fridays and more. I saw a Stereo Kitsch album (great band!) on the bar. They will be playing there pretty soon as well.

Several flat screens line the walls playing sports (The SPURS last time we were there) and with bad ass drink specials, we kept the drinks coming! Speaking of drink specials, 5 O’CLOCK features $1 MARGARITA’S on MONDAYS. If you ladies out there are looking for a great (and cheap) ‘rita, check this place out. Where can you get $2 Domestic Beer and $3 Imports on a Saturday? Right here! Dressed Corona’s, Dos Equis and well drinks for only $3 kept us there there till 2am!

JOHN CARTER: From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E”), JOHN CARTER OF MARS brings this captivating hero to the big screen in a stunning adventure epic set on the wounded planet of Mars, a world inhabited by warrior tribes and exotic desert beings. Based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Barsoom Series,” the film chronicles the journey of Civil-War veteran John Carter (TAYLOR KITSCH), who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants, including Tars Tarkas (WILLEM DAFOE) and Dejah Thoris (LYNN COLLINS) | 8 | MAGX

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

MAGX: What is the first thing you remember hearing as a kid? MAC: As a kid I grew up with my uncles jamming out at our family bbq's, and one of the songs that I always remember them playing was needle and the damage done by Neil young ! Much love to my uncles Fred, Tommy and Homer for introducing me to the great Neil Young ! MAGX: At what point did you realize that you wanted to create music? MAC: In high school when I was I first heard Days of the New, I had always wanted to pick up the guitar but never but never actually fell through with it. I had my cousin Leo to thank for pushing me to pursue it and to pretty much get off my ass and finally do it. It pretty much wasn’t till I heard Dave Matthew and Tim Reynolds live at Luther college that I decided , OK damn I really gotta learn how to play. That was the record that pretty much did it.

MAGX: What is your favorite band or artist? MAC: So many to choose from , Dave Matthews band 1st of all, Neil young, Pearl Jam, G. love, the foo fighters, John Butler Trio and Bob Marley, this list could go on and on. MAGX: Do you sound like them? MAC: When I first started playing I would always try and see who I could sound like, until it hit me, I should sing how I sing, Its hard enough to play certain tunes and sing over them at the same time, so it took me awhile to find my voice over the years but its here and I think its doing the job. The music I like to write and play is pretty much a mixture of everything that I like, its fun to mix it up, a little blues, alternative rock, with a mix of singer songwriter stuff!

few of the “ahh that’s so sweet” tunes and the storytellers, those are usually my favorites to play. At gigs ill sneak in a few og tunes here and there to see what kind of a reaction the crowd gives me. MAGX: What do you write about? MAC: Life, things that have happened in the past, what’s to come in the future, try to stay away from the sappy depressing stuff ! MAGX: What comes first, the music or the lyrics during the writing process? MAC: For me its always the music, I’ve had serious writers block lately, and I’ve found it to be a lot easier for me to compose the music 1st, then add lyrics after.

MAGX: Do you have original music as well?

MAGX: What do you do when you aren’t writing music?

MAC: My og songs are pretty much a mixture of everything, some upbeat tunes, there are a

Gavin and Ethan, trying to get this old beat up bod back in shape! I like heading out for a good run or a bike ride, make it out to Santa Ana for a hike every once in a while, now that the weather is heating up gonna have some beach time to look forward too. MAGX: What is your dream instrument? MAC: In the past 12 months I’ve been very, very lucky to acquire some of my dream guitars. 1st and foremost of is my Taylor 914ce, Martin HD-28v,Santa Cruz Custom D, Guild F-50, And Gibson SST ! I’m still on the hunt for a Gibson J-45 and Gibson ES-125. MAGX: What songs do you play on a typical night performing?

MAC: Everything from Dave Matthews warehouse to Bruce Springsteens I’m on fire, to sublimes carress me down to Johnny cash is Folsom and the past few months I’ve thrown in some un-nashville like country, some Old Crow Medicine Show, Randy Rogers Band, usually play it by ear, depends on the crowd. MAGX: Is there an instrument you would like to learn?

times due to faulty wiring, and also pure stupidity on my part, I was wearing sandals and thought the hell with it I’m playing at the island, why not go barefoot, well my feet were on the ground and as soon as my lips touched the mic, bammm ! All the dead skin on my lips was burnt off from getting shocked for the 4th time.

of playing next to a guitarista legend Mr. Jake Cortez. Jon Fuentes one of the most talented musicians here in the valley, be expecting many great things from Jon !!

MAGX: Where and when can people go and hear you perform?

MAC: I’m currently writing and working on music to record my 1st EP, it had never occurred to me before to go and record in a studio until a few months ago when I thought hell I’ve been playing around the valley for a while now and full time for over a year, id love to make a career out of this, nothing better than getting paid to do what you love.

MAC: Right now I’m at the Sante Fe cantina 2 Tues. out of the month with senor Jake Cortez, every weds at El Divino, Trevinos in San Juan once a month on Thurs. for their acoustic night, sat at Feldman’s market place from 5:30-8:30 then El Divino from 9-2.

MAGX: Who do you usually perform with? MAC: I’ve been lucky to play with many great musicians around the valley, Ben Baca for whom I wouldn’t be playing right now if it weren’t for him, Chris Magallon <-- the hippie from la Joya , Jason Alvarez, and right now I’m pretty much playing solo Sept. on those Tues. nights at Santa Fe when I have the honor

MAC: About a year ago I purchased a Weissenborn lap steel guitar that I’ve been messing around with , still trying to get it just right so I can play it live, a lot of open tuning used on that. Also I started playing a bit of harmonica a few months ago, fiddling around with it here and there on a couple of tunes. MAGX: Tell us a crazy story that has happened to or around you while performing one night. MAC: Well in the past few years there has been an occasional flash here and there, then the typical bar fights! I remember a bit over a year ago I played a gig on a dolphin watch boat, I think it was around November. Well it was very windy, I had to stand up and got electrocuted about 4 | 11 | MAGX

MAGX: Do you have any albums or recordings?

MAGX: Where can people get a hold of you to book you or check out your stuff?

MAC: Facebook has been a godsend for everything, booking, promoting, advertisement, etc. I have my Artist page which is Mark Cavazos, and my reg page which is under Mark Anthony Cavazos, phone and email is listed on their as well as my weekly schedule and updates!

HOW BIG IS THE BIGGEST KNOW STAR?

Why an MRI costs $1,080 in America and $280 in France Washinton Post

From Google News

The size of astronomical objects are so large and the distances are so great that they quickly exceed human comprehension. The outer planets (gas giants) of our solar system consist largely of frozen gases and are consequently the least dense in the solar system. However due to the extremely large masses they exert very strong gravitational force compared to the inner planets.

SECRET SKWIRL SNO THA PRODUCT Hip Hop

Snow tha Product, a native of California, but resident of Texas, is an underground phenomenon and sensation taking the scene by storm in a way that has put male MCs on alert. She’s a beauty and a beast – looks and lyrical skills on the microphone, respectively. Physical stature aside, she stands as tall as any female MC in the game and can wreck a track in fluent Spanish or English with a handful of male MCs trying to match her lyrical level, as she did on Capea El Dough P City Remix

Lila has always stood out from the crowd - In substance, style and appearance she has never been average. Born with “ultra sound sensitivity”, Lila’s experience of the world around her has been quite out of the ordinary, and very much sonically based. Lila is both blessed and afflicted with sounds that most people cannot hear; while this is a gift when it comes to making music, it can also lead to great personal discomfort at times. A one-time actor and world traveler, Lila became enamored with the expressive form of music in 2004, and has thrown herself headlong into pursuit of the perfect articulation in song. Armed with a distinctive voice and a compassionate understanding of the world around her, Lila writes songs whose sweeping musical vision and aesthetic beauty is matched only by the depth of her poetry.
