Editor’s Note
In this issue we are announcing the supply and installation of a Defibrillator for the village of Magor and surrounding areas. It was discussed at length within the Churchmen including an operating demonstration and concluded that it would be a very valuable and practical investment for the village community.
It is important that everyone is aware that it is available (it is sited at The Wheatsheaf Inn) for use in a cardiac emergency. It is very simple to use with both voice and visual instructions as soon as you open it up - perfectly safe for both patient and user! For more details see page 15 - “NowYou can Save Lives!”

What a cause for Celebration!
One of the great joys of ministry at this time of year is to have the opportunity to share the Christmas story with young children. Their sense of wonder and amazement as they hear about the birth of Jesus, perhaps for the first time is truly magical. Perhaps like me you wouldn’t think that Christmas is complete without a visit to a nativity play or Christingle and hearing our youngsters singing some of those carols we might remember from our own childhoods. Often as we grow older Christmas loses some of its excitement and magic. We get so tied up with the preparations, which seem to begin earlier each year and concerns about how we’ll ever pay for it all, that sometimes we lose sight of what it’s all about. At its heart Christmas is all about God’s love for our world. A love that was demonstrated in God giving to us the
greatest gift He could give – the gift of Jesus. The gift of God Himself coming to live among us in that poor, helpless baby. What a gift and what a cause for celebration! I hope that this Christmastime each of us might be able to find some space to contemplate the meaning of that first Christmas and perhaps to recapture something of that childlike sense of wonder and amazement. May the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the perseverance of the wise ones, the obedience of Joseph and Mary, and the peace of the Christ-child be yours at this Christmas-time.

A Busy 2013 The CC have been very busy during 2013 representing the views of the Community on Monmouthshire CC development plans for 495 new houses at Rockfield and Vinegar Hill and responding to the Welsh Government Consultation on the new Motorway across the Gwent Levels. New play equipment has been provided at the Undy Play Park and new goal posts at the Blenheim Park. We are also looking at replacing other play equipment in local play park areas.
Dog Fouling & Littering A main priority for the CC is the continued problem of littering and dog fouling with over 75% of complaints coming to our office relating to dog fouling, fly tipping and litter accross the villages. We are continuing to work with the local area Policing Team and the Monmouthshire CC Environmental department to combat these anti-social problems! 20 dog waste bins are now sited around the villages, with a further 10 planned for future installation.

In under 2 hours 25 bags of assorted litter and several car tyres were collected! The theme continued the following weekend when the CC had a stand at the MUSLA Fun Day, raising the public’s awareness of the problem and how to report it.
The Importance of Telling Us The CC would like to encourage members of the public to report issues of dog fouling. You can do this by ‘phoning MCC Environmental Health Team on 01291 635 711, or by writing to the team at PO Box 106, Caldicot, NP26 9AH; or email to environmentalhealth@monmouthshire.gov.uk or access the Monmouthshire CC web site: www.monmouthshire.gov.uk and click on the ‘Report it’ button on the home page.A leaflet detailing the various ways to report dog fouling is also available on the Community web site, www.magorundy.org.uk or you can pick up a copy from the Magor Police Station and Community Council Office. Fly tipping or Litter issues can be reported on the Monmouthshire County Council web site: www.monmouthshire.gov.uk or by ‘phoning 01633 644 128. Help us to keep our villages free from dog fouling. If you see a problem, don’t leave it, report it!

The Magor Churchmen have for many years been raising money for charities and those in need, and we are proud to announce that we have recently purchased a portable Defibrillator for the village community. The technology of such equipment these days means that they are very easy to use and no training is required - hence should a problem occur locally then very quick help is at hand. Portable Defibrillators can save lives in an emergency (with your help) and provide that vital assitance to a patient during the time prior to the emergency services arriving. The unit is sited in The Wheatsheaf Inn and is therefore easily accessed during every day of the week. The Defibrillator model we have provided has both voice prompts and a display card that illustrates what to do and how to do it. The unit will automatically operate correctly only when the person’s heart rhythm is not correct. Using the Defibrillator is completely safe for the patient and the user as it
automatically analyses the heart rhythm of the patient and it is impossible to give a shock if shock is not required. Of course we hope it will never need to be used but just in case, it’s good to know life saving equipment is very nearby! www.magorchurchmen.co.uk

The object of the Scout & Guide Groups’ Christmas post is to provide an inexpensive method of posting Christmas cards locally and to the Newport areas while at the same time raising funds for the Scouts and Guides. It’s an ideal way for you to post cards to family and friends who live locally and into Newport. Santa’s Christmas Eve Visit...to you! Santa hopes to make some evening calls in the Magor, Undy and Redwick areas, as he has done in previous years. Naturally he’s very busy at this time of year and he has again asked the Magor Churchmen to help organise his visits. If you would like Santa to call on you and deliver a small, clearly labelled gift, please complete the form below and return it with your gift(s) to: The Magor Church Office (the Old Church Hall) - access thro’ the Church yard and/or from Sycamore Terrace - together with the correct payment.
