01. LINEAR MANIFESTO
The Architecture of a journey. Three places understood as three moments of a journey from the sand of the Erg Chebbi desert to the heart of the Fez Medina. The work shown here aims to reivindicater the journey as a way to understand architecture, through three interventions that enhance the place and the visitor’s experience of it. We aim to intervene in them using strategies learned from the place itself, creating architecture that belongs to its environs. As in the film by Anton Corbjin ‘Linear’, the aim is not to «get somewhere», but to understand the journey as a goal in itself, without a need to identify any of the three places as a destination. Instead, all three of them are steps to understand and analyze with the same importance. The three projects, or stages of the journey are, respectively: a hostel in the Erg Chebbi desert, a visitor centre in the gate of Bab Bou Jloud, and a tea house in the Chouara Tannery. “Through the walls and towers destined to crumble, the tracery of a pattern so subtle it could escape the termites’ gnawing” -Invisible Cities, Italo Calvino-

02. THE DOME MANIFESTO
Building with a removable character. The intervention consists of the addition of a lightweight steel structure to provide shelter from the weather elements (sun and rain, partially), to the hexagonal courtyard of the school built by Giancarlo Mazzanti in Loma de Peye (Cartagena de Indias, Colombia). For such purpose, we design a triangulated dome structure with a diameter of 28m that covers the entirety of the courtyard, supported on the existing pillars situated in the facade of the building. As previously mentioned, the elements of the main structure will be steel bars, and the cover will be executed in monolayer ETFE textile. At the top of the dome, we propose a circular opening to allow air circulation and overhead sunlight (in addition to the general light that will filter through the textile). The geometry of the dome is based on circular arcs in section, and complete rings in plan (simplified to polygons with straight sides), to facilitate construction and assembly, and unify material dimensions. All the elements and shape of the complete structure are determined by calculations that ensure its resistance to vertical and horizontal loads (the arches resist vertical loads while the rings and diagonals between exterior and interior structure resist the horizontal loads due to wind and redistribution of self weight).

Cúpula triangulada de 28m de diámetro que cubra todo el espacio del patio. La estructura principal es de acero, y el recubrimiento ligero es textil de ETFE. Los apoyos en el perímetro del patio se resuelven con pequeñas zapatas de hormigón. En la parte central se abre un hueco para la entrada de luz cenital, aun que esta también entra de forma difuminada a través del recubrimiento textil en el resto de las paredes por su carácter translúcido. 03. DEMOCRATIA MANIFESTO
Democracy through culture. Through the means of art and culture, a community can be built in which citizens can express temselves freely and publicly. The aim of a democratic structure shall be, then, to provide its members with the appropriate tools and means of creation, for them to have equal opportunities to develop their artistic projects and initiatives. A centre for democracy can, following this principle, become a centre for contemporary creation, generating a propitious field for the collective exchange of new ideas. Previous examples of this model have proved rather successful The purpose of introducing facilities for artists and the general public to explore their artistic and creative intentions, is not so far from the basic principle of democracy: that of giving them a voice, a means of expression. With sufficient support, it can be possible to democratize art; to make it accessible for everyone. Along with this, there is an inherent benefit to the coexistence of creative practices: the transversality and collaboration that can arise from the artistic community that the project pursues, not only withing the individual creators taking residence in it, but the entirety of the collectives that inhabit the neighborhood which the intervention in the GPO aims to revitalize.

04. PLASTIC DEGRADATION MANIFESTO The degradation of the material as a fundamental quality of the design. The project develops from this intention to create something purposeful and inspiring from what would otherwise be considered waste, or “useless”. It is a theoretical project that arises from an exploration of the material qualities of objects and constructions in state of decay. The proposal stems from two studies of degradation: analogic degradation, exploring the changes and losses in a piece of art when undergoing a repetitive copying process; and prefabricated degradation, which observes the different results time and external elements (weather and sea corrosion) produce in elements that were identical in origin, thus giving them an identity. The final and main stage of the project consists on the creation of a nomadic architecture, that travels on a boat across the coast of Portugal, collecting plastic waste and building with it a collection of geodesic domes. A travelling structure that grows and evolves during the trip, as it cleans and filters the ecosystem it forms a part of. The recycling process takes place inside the boat, first selecting the appropriate plastics and separating them from the rest (returned to recycling facilities), then melting and moulding them into the triangular pieces that form the dome covers.
