Wildhorse State Recreation Area THIS AREA IS OPEN YEAR ROUND, 365 DAYS!

The reservoir was constructed and covered what was Owyhee Meadows in 1937. The park was established in 1979. The reservoir was named after the abundance of wild horses that roamed the area at that time. They are still roaming the surrounding areas. Fishing is fantastic year round. Wildhorse holds Rainbow trout, German Brown trout, small mouth bass, wiper, yellow perch and catfish. The campground has 34 sites with table, shade, fire pit and camp pad. No hook-ups but restrooms and showers are available. The park has 3 cabins located at the south end. Check their site for full descriptions. The picnic/day use area has picnic tables and grills with view of the reservoir. There is a boat ramp next to the day use beach area. Wildhorse area offers boating, fishing, access to surrounding hunting areas, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, hiking and just plain relaxing. We own a lot at Wildhorse and love it. Many people just follow the dirt roads in and camp around the edges of the lake on both sides of the main highway. You can also access the Brueau river from this area in certain spots. That’s it, easy access right from the main road which takes you to Mountain Home and Boise. All access roads are dirt after leaving the highway.
