Did you know?Did you

Did you know that the Magic Valley might have 2 wind turbine energy projects is its future? The Lava Ridge in Jerome County and Salmon Falls in Twin Falls County. The Taurus Winds in Gooding County is an Arevia Power project. All on federal BLM land, and are in various stages of development by Magic Valley Energy, formally known as LS Energy. Lava Ridge is the furthest along with the environmental impact study that has been fast tracked and is due out in late summer. The 400 740’ tall turbines are twice as tall as the ones in Bliss and the blades exceed the wingspan of a Boeing 747 and is less than 2 miles away from Minidoka National Historic site. Since 2015 over 300 communities have said no to similar projects. The Salmon Falls project would be less than 4 miles from the Clover Community. Taurus Winds would be located between Wendell and Gooding. You are encouraged to contact your local, state and federal elected officials or BLM to voice your opinion regarding these projects or go to stoplavaridge.com for more information.

Growing up on our farm was so much fun! I often tagged along behind dad, especially when he milked the two jerseys. I can still hear his voice from far (con’t p9)

(con’t from June) Our younger brother was active, adventurous and fun. Before he was born my sister tried to put mom on a diet, so mom told her the treasured secret that she was pregnant, however, gave my older sister strict instructions not to tell anyone, yet. Quickly after that moment, my sister ran up to the end of the dirt farm road where I was standing to tell me the good news. We were both so exDadcited!was

Days information is now available at http://www.buhlchamber.org/. The 4th of July marks the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is one of the most popular celebrations on the U.S calendar, with highlights including a spectacular fireworks display, family barbecues, a baseball game, and much, much more. We are grateful Buhl is able to host this parade each year, but it takes, as you can imagine, a lot of work and volunteers are always welcome. If you are interested, please contact the Buhl Chamber of Commerce to help out in 2023!

Buhl Mayor Pam McClain

It is our duty as citizens of Buhl to keep our city clean, not just for us, but for tourists and our future generations to come. Cleanliness is a concern to a large majority of our residents and business owners . Overflowing trash receptacles, non-manicured trees, weeds, litter, and leaves seem to be a constant cause of uncleanliness throughout our small community. It is important to keep our community clean because it is a representation of our residents and businesses. Visitors to our community should know that residents and businesses take pride in the appearance of their neighborhood and business because it is well kept. It shouldn’t appear as if no one cares or lives there.

Another health issue that comes with polluted yards is the threat of insects and rodents. These critters are attracted to trash. Many rodents carry disease and insects such as mosquitoes can make life very uncomfortable. If our city streets and yards become polluted, these animals and insects will also be a problem in homes, parks, schools, and businesses. It’s imperative that a city does everything it can to keep them away.

Title 3 of the Buhl City Code, entitled Health, Sanitation and Environment, addresses our ordinances concerning the above issues. Please visit https://www.cityofbuhl.us and click on the Buhl City Code “button” to update yourself on the ordinances concerning these

If there’s a litter or weed issue in your neighborhood, report it to the city right away. You should also make it a point to participate in community cleanup events to help the city around you. Remaining environmentally conscious is more important than it’s ever been. If you want to make an impact, your community is a good place to start. Help the city, help your neighbor.

Cities also have a responsibility to keep their streets clean. You can do your part to help clean up city streets. For example, you should avoid throwing any debris such as cigarette butts or chewing gum on the ground.

between the pasture and calf pen in the center of the fence stood a fully grown maple tree. I often hoisted myself over the calf pen, then stood on my tiptoes to catch its low branch. Clinging to the bark, I shimmied around to catch another one, like a little monkey. I sat in the tree V for a few moments rest, then crawled backwards down a droopy wider and rounder tree branch that bowed just above the ground. There I balanced a few feet above the inside of the pasture. It was so easy for me to pretend I was riding a horse, bouncing up and down, as my feet barely touched the ground. I felt safe and happy to watch dad walk slowly behind the lumbering red and

Dad picked up his simple ‘T’ stool to sit on, made of a couple of short pieces of ‘two by fours’ nailed together to form a ‘T’. It was just the right height for dad to sit and balance on as he milked by hand. Cats running wild, in all colors, came from nearby farms and fields to get a taste and fill their empty hungry tummies. Dad gave the first few squirts toward the wide mouths of those brave ones who came in the closest. Fresh warm liquid splashed to various parts of their furry faces, long rough tongues stretched to the max, licking up every drop. (con’t p10)

Mother cooked for farm hay crews and workmen. At our farm, lunch was called dinner and dinner was supper. About the only time we referred to lunch as the middle meal was when we had white wonder bread sandwiches with bologna, smothered with mayonnaise, dill pickles and mustard, on a picnic with a red checkered tablecloth by Billingsley Creek on a fishing day!

7 Th Fit Over 60: 9:30a

After two of the buckets of milk were filled for home use, Dad carried them by the handles, around to the back door of the large white farmhouse, into an oversized utility room. There the milk was strained through a round silver contraption, then poured into large plastic tupperware containers and placed into a five foot tall, roundish, 1950’s refrigerator. Cream rose to the top of the milk several inches thick over the next couple of days. Mom would then skim the cream off to make fresh homemade bright yellow butter, in a large wooden bowl. We kids took turns pressing around the butter with a flat wooden paddle to squeeze out any extra milk. The large butterball looked like the size of a cantaloupe! Mom later formed smaller squarish lumps of butter for use at the dinner table or for baking.

The DOL pays a stipend to the seniors while they work for the nonprofit. This provides older workers with a chance to use their experience in community service. north of Bliss, was held in high esteem by Indians traveling great distances to bathe in the 151o mineral waters. An old Indian story tells about a brave who gambled so expertly that he left others in the tribe destitute. An angry council condemned him as a ‘bad one’ but allowed him to accompany the tribe on its seasonal pilgrimage to the hot springs. While on the journey, the gambler fell ill with spotted fever. When they arrived, he was thrust into the hot spring for a cure, but was dragged out dead.

For about 20 years the plunge was popular for family picnics and high school students. When it closed, a series of owners tried to use the hot waters for a variety of agricultural experiments. Notable among the failures was a project for incubating turkey eggs. The waters hatched the eggs but as the poults pecked through the shells they were boiled by the hot steam.”
