Jan. 22, 2019 Dear Judges:
I proudly nominate Times-News Chief Photographer Drew Nash for the Idaho Press Club Photographer of the Year award. Nash leads our photo staff in covering a huge geographical area with skill and enthusiasm. He has a great eye for visual storytelling, which our readers have recognizes for years. From high school to college, Nash covers sports extremely well, getting to know the athletes, coaches and parents. He’s the best breaking news photographer I’ve seen in Idaho but also consistently pitches his own enterprise projects that surprise readers. Nash’s name is known around the Magic Valley as readers have enjoyed and admired his work for years. He shows up at City Council meetings, governor inaugurations, high school proms, civic demonstrations and more, regularly capturing the most important moments in our valley. Although he’s shot each local parade, festival and fair over and over each year, Nash continues to come at his assignments with fresh eyes and new angles. His experience and local expertise make him worthy of the honor of photographer of the year.
I hope you’ll agree with me after looking at his 2018 work. Sincerely,
Alison Smith Times-News Editor
