Inspiration Trainers selected by Technogym to support London 2012 Champions

F

ollowing on from the most fantastic summer of sport the UK has probably ever seen, we take a look back at what made the London 2012 Olympic Games such a success.

Throughout the London 2012 Olympic Games Technogym supported the world’s leading athletes with a team of expert personal trainers. As part of this dedicated support team, a group of Inspiration Trainers were selected who added phenomenal experience, talent and energy to the team. Selected after a nationwide search, the Inspiration Trainers were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to work in the fitness centre at the London 2012 Olympic Village. The selected trainers included Qualified REPS Level 3 and Lifetime Achievement Award Winner 2011 for dedication to the Health and Fitness Industry, Rachel Hobbs and Qualified REPS Level 3 trainers Sally Kettle and Wanda Summers.

Wanda Summers broke her L4 Vertebra, after a serious paragliding accident, and was told by doctors that she would never walk again. Having led a very active life until the accident, she was devastated to be bed-bound for 12 weeks. However, with determination Wanda is not only walking again but has pursued her passion for ultra distance running and has won her age category in both the Gobi March Dessert Race in 2010 and the Atacama Crossing in 2011.

As part of the team, I was able to share my passion for training by inspiring others to never give up, because it pays off in the end, just like I do with my clients at the moment”

Spinning onathan Goldberg created the first prototype indoor cycling bike in 1987 while living in California. He was training for an ultra-endurance race at the time, but he needed to be home to help his pregnant wife more than his training schedule would allow. Soon friends were coming around to take a spin in the kitchen on his indoor bike. In the 20+ years since then, Spinning® has grown into a global phenomenon. Today, many other fitness companies offer indoor cycling certifications. Most people either love it or hate it. I am one of the ones who love it. It was my first exercise certification and opened many doors for me in the fitness industry. As a personal trainer, it is always good to have a few other certifications up your sleeve. Indoor cycling is a fantastic one to have as many gyms offer it on their timetable. Leading group exercise classes also makes it a little easier to get your foot in the door if you are looking for work. Once people start regularly attending your classes, you will build a rapport with them. They will understand your motivational style and hopefully when they start looking for a personal trainer, they will think of you first.

Most people either love it or hate it. I am one of the ones who love it.

There are many advantages and benefits to indoor cycling. It is a high-cardio lowimpact exercise, great for people with joint problems, burns calories and fat, improves cardiovascular health, and tones legs. As each rider chooses their own resistance level, classes are suitable for both beginners and advanced athletes. Classes can be offered year around (offering periodization for runners and swimmers) and can be just as effective for short or long workouts. When leading a Spinning® class, there are a few safety points to remember. First is hydration. Spinning® recommends 1.2 litres of water to be consumed during a 45 minute class. Remind your members to sip

little amounts of water frequently during class, and encourage them to refill outside the studio if necessary. Positioning is also important, so if anyone is new to indoor cycling offer to help set up their bike. In the seated position, an extended leg should have a slight bend in it. When the knees are at 90 degrees and feet are 180 degrees

Encourage newbies to give it a go at least five times, as this will give them time to understand the terminology, and develop a better understanding of their resistance levels.

J

from each other, the rider should be able to look down their knee and see the edge of their shoelaces closest to the toe. It is a common mistake for riders to have their seat too far forward. Lastly, be conscious of the RPM, as pedalling too fast puts a strain on the knees. Some bikes will have a display, which is very helpful in explaining this concept to members. Encourage riders to increase their resistance level once they hit 100 RPMs to avoid doing damage. Also look for people who look out of control as they pedal, as they may need to use a higher resistance level.

Many people are afraid to participate in an indoor cycling class, or have tried it once and hated it. Encourage newbies to give it a go at least five times, as this will give them time to understand the terminology, and develop a better understanding of their resistance levels. By trying it more than once, they have the opportunity to find an instructor they like- whose music motivates them for that last big push and style makes them want to come back again and again. Hopefully you will be that perfect fit in the studio and eventually you will have a new client on the gym floor. Mollie Millington is a London-based personal trainer who offers in-person and virtual training support. You can follow her on Twitter (@ PTMollie), as well as visit her website www. ptmollie.com for health and wellness tips. Many thanks to Frame Shoreditch for use of their studio, bike, and manager Polly for the photos.

Incorporating the

AB-MXR into your group or one-on-one sessions How Personal Trainers can incorporate the AB-MXR into their business

T

he beauty of training your clients with the AB-MXR is that instead of carrying dumb bells, medicine balls and kettle bells with you, you can take this all-in-one piece Joanna of kit with the added bonus that it fits easily into your backpack! It is weighted and comes in 1kg-5kg to suit all levels of fitness and provides a total core body workout. The AB-MXR is a compact, multi-functional device that is medically proven to support the neck and is a safe way for your clients to work their abdominal muscles. When clients complain about not enjoying sit ups as it hurts their neck, the AB-MXR alleviates the pain by correcting the position of the neck and giving the proper spinal alignment.

My clients love training with the AB-MXR as the results are visible quickly

My clients love training with the AB-MXR as the results are visible quickly. You will see the happiness in your clients as they achieve results quicker than they might think, feeling firmer and shrinking their waistline! It also provides a fun, safe workout and is easy to use at home and when travelling. The AB-MXR’s handles make all exercises symmetrical, automatically correcting body position, which is very important so your clients don’t cause themself any unnecessary aches and strains. The flat back means that you can lay it flat on the floor to aid push ups, or can be placed on the back as an extra weight when doing the plank. I originally designed the AB-MXR for both my clients and for myself as a trainer, as I couldn’t find a device that did everything I needed it to do and was easy to carry around. The great thing about it is that it makes life as a trainer on the move easier as you don’t have to lug around loads of different, heavy equipment. Another handy feature is that as the weight gets heavier, the device stays the same size, so whichever weight you chose to train your clients with, you can still fit it in your bag! There is a gym bundle available for PT’s, which includes a stand to house the five devices. There are also retail opportunities available for gym owners.

Incorporate these easy moves into your sessions for that AB-MXR burn

All of these exercises can be completed with a 1kg, 2kg, 3kg, 4kg or 5kg AB-MXR, dependent on the fitness levels of your clients and provides a total core body workout.

crunches The AB-MXR was designed to support the neck and has a medically proven spinal curvature. The weight behind your head helps to target the abdominal muscles and burn more fat

Lunges Lunges with an oblique twist, keeping the arms symmetrical with the weighted AB-MXR

Push Ups The AB-MXR works the biceps, triceps and abdominal muscles whilst using it as a platform for push ups

Squats Advanced power jump that works the quads, glutes and abdominal muscles by squatting, lifting the AB-MXR above the head and jumping.

I

s this the PT's new best friend? Unikurve is growing in popularity, and since its launch at the B-Fit Expo in January Mike Curry, the inventor of Unikurve, has been on a roller coaster ride."It looks so simple and that’s why it’s so good and PT's are loving it,” says Mike. When serving on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, what Mike discovered he needed was an indestructible bit of exercise equipment. He broke his leg on a promotion course in the Brecon Beacons, and used the recovery time to draw on this idea. A rough prototype was made, and he started using it for his rehabilitation. He showed it to a few friends, and eventually more Unikurves were produced and sent out for testing all over the country to PT's. The next stage was launching and selling the concept. With his family behind him 100%, Unikurve was launched at the B-Fit Expo in London January 2012. Unikurve has grown in popularity as people become aware of its versatility, functionality and flexibility as a piece of training equipment. Unikurve can be used as a dumbbell, barbell, kettle bell, medicine ball, stepper, cardio trainer, core conditioner, press up aid, dip station and now comes in 3 weights. The 4kg lightweight model is great for toning, cardio and weight loss. The 8kg heavyweight model is useful for strength and conditioning, and can be used in conjunction with the 4kg Unikurve to create a great circuit workout. The latest edition to the family is Unikurve XTRHV, which is an 18kg Brute aimed at strength training. At least 4 different weights can be achieved with each Unikurve by using different holds, as increasing or decreasing the leverage makes the virtual weight increase or decrease. Unique, Unisex and Universal with over 1000 different exercises possible, Unikurve

Kettlercise Kettlebells

Official Kettlercise Kettlebells. The difference really is in the design - each Kettlercise kettlebell has been specifically designed to ensure that two hands can be on the kettlebell at any time. All of our Kettlercise Kettlebells are of the finest quality, highly finished, black cast iron and specially coated in orange neoprene to ensure there is no damage to your flooring when working out.

Gripad - the kitbag essential.

Had enough of lifting gloves that just make your hands sweaty, don’t have enough grip, or really aren’t that comfortable? GRIPAD is the simpler alternative. Gripad provides a firm and comfortable grip without covering your hand. Air can circulate, the hand can breathe, giving you a much more comfortable experience. The thick Neoprene padding prevents the soreness, heat and abrasion you often get from regular workout gloves. The stretchable finger loops ensures that one size fits most; and caring for Gripads couldn't be easier, just chuck them in the wash with your gym kit.

Finally ……..How to integrate Kettlebells in to your business! Kettlercise® Kicks It’s Way in to the Fitness Industry We have all heard the hype and the mythical legends of kettlebell training, how it was used by gladiators or Greek Gods 1,000’s of years ago. However, up until now it seems to have been exclusively aimed at the hard core element of the fitness market, routinely used by PT’s or in some sort of Boot camp setting. One of the biggest issues of training with kettlebells is that you can’t take a member from the gym floor that hadn’t seen a kettlebell before and put them straight into a kettlebell class without them doing some sort of basic kettlebell training course. A lot of gym managers have been conscious of using kettlebells due to the fact that without proper instruction the client is open to injuries, throwing a heavy kettlebell around in the gym is open to accidents and the damage to gym floors with heavy kettlebells can be an enormous cost. With the launch of the Kettlercise® program this now solves those problems. Kettlercise® brings Kettlebells in to mainstream health and fitness training and it’s open to anyone. So what is it? Kettlercise® integrates the traditional kettlebell in to a high volume, low intensity, all over body work out delivered in a 50 minute heart pumping, fat burning, muscle toning class routine. The kettlercise® training system is particularly aimed at women as 85% of people that attend fitness classes are female. From our own research and trails it is where it has the most success. ″ I’m already a certified Zumba Instructor and since certifying as a Kettlercise® Instructor I’ve had to expand my business and have recruited a further 3 Instructors to cope with demand. I’ve had to cap my classes now at 35 attendees per session for safety reasons. Kettlercise® delivers results for class attendees but it also delivers as a complete business model too!! ″ Tina El’Bikem, Lincoln Kettlercise Instructor

Tina El’Bikem,Lincoln

Why put Kettlercise® in to your fitness program? In these challenging times of retaining and attracting gym members you need to stay ahead of your competition. When clients find something new, fresh and exciting that really works their loyalty to you can be extremely tested to say the least.

Here are just a few of the many benefits of Kettlercise®:  It’s easy for you to implement and market  It can be an added profit opportunity – the important secondary spend  Its simple and fun to teach and clients will love it  It’s a brilliant cross selling opportunity in to 1:2:1 PT sessions  It has countless routine variations helping you to retain client interest  Instant return on Investment  It’s open to 90% of gym members  Has its own supportive supplement range  It’s an entire functional body work out that gets results……FAST! How much does it cost? A vibrating plate machine can cost upwards of £3k. A new treadmill can cost you anything up to £15k. To book a place for one instructor on a Kettlercise ® course at any one of our training locations across the UK is only £167.00 (plus VAT) per person.

As an online company Gorilla Sports is planning to bring much more than just a shop front to its website (www. gorillasports.co.uk). To offer customers support and advice on how to use its equipment effectively, the company is seeking PTs who would like to create workouts using its products for use on its blog. In return it is offering link backs to PTs websites or blogs to help you promote your brand to our ever-growing customer base.

Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive

As an innovative company Gorilla Sports actively uses Twitter (@gorillasportsuk) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/ gorillasportsuk) to engage with customers. The face of the Gorilla Sports ads, PT and fitness model Tim Chase, was recruited online, and there are always new opportunities to get involved with the brand, whether it’s reviewing products or joining the Gorillas in Action.

The hugely popular Gorillas in Action campaign supports trainers and clients by providing free T-shirts for them to wear during events. So far there have been Gorillas in Action at the Adidas 24hr Thunderrun Ultramarathon, The Nuts Challenge, Spartan Sprint, Total Warrior and many more events from tennis matches to powerlifting competitions. There are plenty more plans to encourage more people to get fit with the support of Gorilla Sports. Until now Gorilla Sports has focused entirely on equipment, but in the next few months it will be introducing a range of nutritional supplements and is looking for sports professionals to trial and promote these new additions to the Gorilla Sports family. How do you become a Personal Trainer? B

ecoming a personal trainer is a popular route for people who have a passion for health and fitness, and can be an extremely rewarding and lucrative career choice. A piece of advice we would give to anyone pursuing this route is to find your unique selling point. Find an area that interests you, perhaps it is teaching classes such as Indoor Cycling or Mixed Martial arts or perhaps corrective exercise. Whatever it may be, get qualified in that area and start selling your skills.

First Step This is the easy bit - you need to get qualified. You need to find a fitness training provider, like Discovery Learning, who offer fully accredited REPs courses recognised throughout the industry. In order to become a Personal Trainer, you will need to complete the below steps:

Level 2 Gym Instructor + Level 3 Personal Trainer + First Aid Qualification For both Gym and PT courses you will complete a range of modules both theory

26

www.ptmagazine.co.uk

and practical based and be assessed on these too.

each month and not worry about paying rent.

You can complete these courses on a full time or part time basis and there are affordable payment options available.

Freelance / Self Employed

Then What? Once you have the required qualifications you can either start working straight away or continue to develop your skills. Some people want to find a job and start earning immediately, whereas others want to continue their learning and focus on an area they are passionate about. It is important that you determine your USP as this will make you stand out from the crowd.

Finding a Job? There are different options when it comes to finding work in the fitness industry; the main two possibilities are freelance and employed routes. Both have advantages and disadvantages and the decision will be different for everyone.

Employed The employed route means you will benefit from having a fixed monthly income, holiday and sick pay and usually fixed shifts. You can gain experience and build up a client base with the security of an income

There are lots of plus points to working as a freelance personal trainer namely the ability to work your own hours, be your own boss and the ability to earn an unlimited income. To work freelance means you usually pay a monthly fee to a health club in exchange for using the club to train clients. The amount of rent depends on the location of the club and the type of club you’re in. Working in fitness is all about helping people achieve their goals, so if you do take pleasure in seeing others succeed then this really is right for you. If you would like any more information please contact info@discovery.uk.com or call 0208 543 1017 and speak to our friendly team who can help with any questions.

hy should a PT start introducing Yoga in their training programmes? This is a great question and one that many Personal Trainers ask me when they consider coming to train as an L3 Yoga teacher.

gaining a PB. As a motivational trainer I also use meditation to help deal with the stress and anxiety competitive sport causes. Resting the Mind as well as the body is necessary for optimum health and fitness and performance.

Injury limitation has to be an important part of your work but so is the clients mental well-being. I work a lot with footballers and they never want a heavy workout every session. They also want to be able to de-stress and learn how to relax after training and most importantly after a game.

Cycling is known to be one of the toughest sports on the body, and aging can be seen visibly due to a very strict high protein low fat diet and relentless training. In this last year, I have seen cyclists ‘battle’ with tight joints, tight muscles and a tight mind. A professional competitor competes every second of every waking moment and when asleep too I am sure.

We cannot live without breathing, but we give it little or no respect

For me it’s logical that if the body is inflexible, it will be injured in its most vulnerable areas such as the knees, lower back, groin and shoulders. But if the mind is inflexible then we are in trouble. Opening the mind of an Athlete to the benefits of Yoga used to be tough. In the last 35 years I have been teaching and training I have seen a marked move towards understanding Yoga and its role in Sport. A good sportsman needs more than a good body; they need a sharp focus on the goal, a keen sense of body awareness and an understanding of good breathing techniques. An intelligent training program is essential for good performance, injury limitation and

34

www.ptmagazine.co.uk

We cannot live without breathing, but we give it little or no respect. Good oxygen flow is imperative for optimum performance, and essential for avoiding severe muscular strain after competing. Yoga is the one exercise that concentrates on efficient breathing and mind-full awareness to achieve optimum output. The USA and some European countries have accepted yoga as part of cross training and I am still battling to have it accepted here in the UK. As a professional trainer I know what can be achieved but Yoga as part of sport is still kept very much in the closet here. How wonderful therefore to be asked to work with the Chicago Bulls last summer here at Loughborough University with Luol Deng. He managed a 162 game season that year with no injuries and attributed it to his yoga cross training. He wanted to educate the UK academy with this knowledge.

Injury rehabilitation and more importantly injury pre-habilitation starts the moment we meet clients. INJURY//

ver the coming months, this column will discuss a varying range of assessment techniques and when/why to use them, as well as focusing on specific injury rehab techniques.

We also ask about injuries and tell them how we will fix them and get them back to their best, but few trainers are using comprehensive enough assessment techniques to do this effectively.

Now, no client will be perfect, and their many faults will all affect their ability to exercise to the maximum level possible. It could be a postural defect, a lack of proprioceptive control, ineffective GAIT or a number of other ailments. Without a concise assessment of the body and its defects/imbalances, we are unable to know the best exercises to prescribe, and in fact could be prescribing exercises that are damaging to the client, and totally inefficient at best. As we all know, the human body has wonderful ability to cheat itself and use incorrect muscles when needed. For short periods of time this is ok (i.e. when resting a muscle strain, ankle ligament damage etc), but when this occurs for a longer period, joints become stressed and damaged, muscles become tight and tender and this is when the likelihood of injuries will increase. From a business point of view, an assessment is a wonderful visual effect for other clients. Giving a full assessment (i.e. standing squat assessment/GAIT analysis) in view of other clients in the gym/studio will draw interest from others in the studio, wanting to know what you are doing and why. When you explain why, they will want to be assessed and this will repeat. Jason Reynolds is an experienced personal trainer and accredited rehab trainer, Jason spent several years working at a top London orthopaedic hospital outpatient department, where he was able to enhance his knowledge of injury rehabilitation and exercise techniques. Jason works at TenPilates teaching reformer Pilates classes as well as focusing on one-on-one personal training and injury REHAB. For more information, please visit www.tenpilates.com

MARKETING//

Work Smarter...

...Not Harder T

he time has come for personal trainers to lose the one-to-one model of training as their single source of revenue. Personal training still remains the bastion of the upper middle classes and is a luxury that the majority cannot afford within the health club market, let alone the wider community. The question remains how you, as a personal trainer, can structure your business to accommodate the widest demographic and socio-economic backgrounds. The most recent trend in training is small group team training. It’s the best-fitting complement to existing genres of training services and fills the gap perfectly between one-to-one PT and larger formats such as bootcamps. It’s more money per hour and a decreased cost for the clients – a win, win scenario for all involved. If personal training is your chosen career, then you’ll want to expose yourself to more people every hour and every day. Change nothing, and you’ll definitely hit a revenue

38

www.ptmagazine.co.uk

ceiling. With only so many hours in the day and only one of you, it stands to reason that you only have two choices to get more money – work harder or smarter. Working harder involves getting up earlier to train clients and/or staying later and getting post-work clients. Once you’ve hit the maximum number of people you can train each day, your only option to get more money is to charge more for your services. This one is always tricky as you’ll keep some clients, but also lose a proportion as well. Team-training with typically small groups of 4-8 people is the answer. Instead of charging your 100% hourly rate, you could charge between 50-75% of the normal hourly rate, yet receive up to 400% of the hourly revenue return (depending on how large you allow the group to be). It’s not as cheap as your bootcamp large classes because people are paying for a more specialised service, but financially sits in the middle between that and your normal hourly one-to-one rate. People still feel like they are working out with a trainer, but

realise they are effectively sharing your cost with a select few. Have a game plan and try to never do the same thing for more than two years in a row. to navigate with clear signposting, have clearly identified products and services and have up to date relevant content.

Before Social Media, Personal Trainers would use marketing tactics such as local area leaflets, hand to hand marketing, business cards, branded vehicles, printed merchandise and advertising to get new clients. These tactics required a marketing budget and are collectively known as “outbound marketing”.

IMAGERY AND VIDEO

Today it’s possible to market and grow your PT business with little or no budget, the only expenditure being your time. Digital channels have created a new area of marketing known as “inbound marketing”. This is where companies create content across media such as Website Blog, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn to gain attention of potential customers. These channels are highly effective in creating awareness and converting prospects into clients. The key components are: YOUR WEBSITE This should be the core of your online strategy. Your inbound marketing activity should drive traffic to your website. The role of the website is to convert these leads into clients. Therefore, your website should be easy

BLOGGING The key aspect of inbound marketing is that it uses content your personal training business generates. Blogging is an effective way of creating timely, relevant content that draws people to your website.

We will be expanding on each of the above channels over the coming months and in our column online. If you want to find our more about Simon Burden or Size Digital please visit www.SizeDigital.com

Aside from the written word your Personal Training business should be taking advantage of different media to convey the benefits of your business. Personal Training is about people and taking Photos, Videos and using Audio are great ways of communicating what you do with potential clients. SOCIAL MEDIA Social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram are great ways of identifying and engaging with a target audience of people who may be potential clients of your business. Once you have identified a target audience you can build and grow relationships by starting conversations, sharing knowledge and adding value. Use social media as a means to drive traffic back to content on your website.

Growing Your PT Business

you can

Focus On Y

ou’ve done the training, got the qualifications and you’re raring to get on with what you do best. Now, stop and think again. Your time is precious so plan carefully where best to focus your efforts. In 1999 the Managing Director of Focus Training, Bob Ellis, transformed a company on the brink of collapse and took it into profit in under 12 months. Today, they are one of the largest providers of training for the health and fitness industry. Bob puts success down to a high quality product and service and says that his motivated team are focused on doing the right things so that they exceed client expectations. So, what should you do to help grow your business and your income over the next 12 months? Here are 7 things to focus on first:

#1 Think BIGGER

Thinking small rarely brings about great or inspiring results. Think bigger and look beyond what you know and do right now. This is one of the ways of finding the motivation and the solutions to every obstacle that comes your way.

#2 Build Your Team

If you work alone and try to do everything yourself not only do you make life more difficult for yourself but you miss out on opportunities to have a bigger impact. Build your team and open yourself up to the ideas, skills, resources and energy that others bring to your business.

#3 Increase Your Visibility

People buy from people they know, like and trust. What steps have you taken to really put yourself out there in front of the kind of people you want to work with? Don’t hide behind leaflets and websites; get out there and put yourself in front of your ideal customers.

#4 Develop a Powerful and Consistent Message

Do people really know what you do? Ask your friends and colleagues and you’ll probably find that the answers they give are not necessarily what you want to hear. “He does PT”, “She teaches fitness”. Develop a clear message that will be heard by the right people.

#5 Plan your marketing campaigns

You need to invest some time to plan your marketing campaigns. One off activities or random marketing actions won’t reap rewards or result in any significant growth.

#6 Get better acquainted with the people in your target market

Find out what your customers want and give it to them. Ask the right questions and listen carefully to their answers, then create a programme that will deliver exactly the results that they want.

#7 Develop a clear sales process

Your sales process takes someone from complete stranger to full paying client.. Marketing makes up the first part and if successful, you end up in a sales conversation. The more you can formalise your sales process the more likely you are to convert enquiries into paying customers. If you’re serious about growing your PT business in the next 12 months, whatever you do, don’t leave it to chance.

Put Yourself On A Higher Level

New Level 4 qualifications from Focus Training will give you the competitive edge to capitalise on new opportunities for increasing your income. Courses include: Exercise for the Management of Lower Back Pain, Exercise and Nutritional Interventions for Obesity and Diabetes, Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Mental Health, Stroke Rehabilitation and Cancer Rehabilitation. All our courses are quality guaranteed as you would expect from one of the longest established, most reputable providers in the business. t r e b l i G Tom er Personal 1-2-1 Train

>

We caught up with Tom Gilbert of Personal 121 Trainer, to talk training plans, nutrition and his experience working as a PT in a highly competitive market place…

So Tom… How was the time you spent with Louise and Steve? (Aus Beach Volley Ball Player & Coach) Eye opening and extremely motivating. What was the best advice they gave about training for a competition? Make a clear plan and stick to it until the end. Speaking with Steve, what was his best advice for creating a training plan? Training has to be specific to the person training. A full in depth meeting with the client in question should be had prior to creating a programme in order to get it right for them. Why did you decide to become a personal trainer? After leaving school I seemed to spend more time in the gym than anywhere else so decided it’d be a good career path for me. I still, a year on, think the same!

How important is nutrition to you? Will you strongly suggest that your clients follow a better diet to improve their fitness goals? Training and diet work hand in hand. One without the other will make your goals much harder to hit. My clients have the option for nutrition help and I make sure they’re aware of how important it is.

www.ptmagazine.co.uk

I personally recommend spin and body pump. They’re both classes in which you choose how intense it is. You make it harder or easier as and when you want meaning it’s good for everyone. What do you feel is the biggest problem that personal trainer’s face?

If a client suffers an injury during Personal training is an extremely big industry which means it’s competitive. Gym a session, how do you handle it? rental for personal trainers is high so you, as Most gym based injuries will be muscular a trainer have some pressure to deal with. so I’d stretch and massage the area in The hardest thing to do is to walk up to a question to try and relieve any pain. member and convert them into your client. If the injury continues to cause the You need to break that barrier and try to client problems I’d refer them on to a find approaching people easy. Clients won’t physiotherapist. come to you, you must go and find them. How do you keep clients fit when they’re not training? As I said before, nutrition is key. When the clients are not training it’s even more important to stay on top of their diets to make sure they’re not slipping out of shape.

Other than normal training/ exercises, what are some fun ways/ classes to take that can really get someone in shape?
