A

s the days draw in and we become aware that the winter we only just left, is soon to be back, we are reminded of just how lucky we are to live in this beautiful county. I have been busy in the last parts of the summer, traveling around to the small hamlets of Suffolk, children in tow, to enjoy those final long days and the odd bout of fantastic sunny weather. Framlingham Castle has played a big part in the 2017 summer for both me and the girls, set

Welcome to the Autumn issue of EAUX (as we are all aware by now) on top of the hill close the market square, this wonderful example of a walled medieval castle has sparked the imagination of so many for so long. I can not wait to go back in the winter months and see just how the landscape changes. My English Heritage membership has certainly helped me to keep the little ones entertained. This month I have been lucky to be back behind the wheel of an Audi RS, with the RS5 featuring heavily in my mindset for one of the best performance road cars I have driven in a long time. Take a look at (pg55) for my thoughts on this amazing machine.

With the Suffolk Fashion Show fast approaching we have the lovely Pam Davis giving her advise on Autumn/Winter 2017 fashion styles (pg28). If it’s far away destinations that you crave, take a look at the ever increasing travel section (pg40) where you will find some great ideas for your next holiday. We will see you for the Christmas issue very soon, it’s hard to believe I am writing that already! From all of us here at EAUX, we hope you enjoy this issue.

a final farewell to

The Secret Garden Party

Following a fantastic run and many many happy memories created, we have finally said a fond good-bye to The Secret Garden Party

N

o more can we reveal in the ecliptic mix of music, the wild amounts of people, the mud, the lakes, the set designs and indeed the amazing stages that made this the must attend event each year.

8

As a veteran of many SPG festivals, and indeed many festivals across the years, I have to say that this did not disappoint. From camp set up to meeting your local fellow campers, and making some amazing friends along the way… James, Jon, Joe, Rick, Beau, Katie, Parasol Dave good god the list goes on… yes you all know who you are… Roll on the Trilogy!!

You all made this one of the best experiences of the year for me by far and a fitting end to a long chapter in my life. With the camping fields, lots of talk about the Dark Web, spirit animals and savours there was no doubt in my mind that this was going to be off the wall.

I have been to far to many of these events that you start to think they blur into one, but I can not say how happy it made me to attend this years final Secret Garden Party, the one that stood out from the crown. No blurring in sight. Attended with such a fine group of people, and introduce (as a first festival) to others in the group.

The festival headliners of METRONOMY, CRYSTAL FIGHTERS, TOOTS & THE MAYTALS this was never going to be a festival to disappoint. Camped up by Chai Wallers, we were sure that we could be party to the most epic of music 24/7 from the moment we set up our tent, lent our electric pump to our then unknown new friends, and from the first can of Crabbies, this was only ever going

As the rain poured down on day two, the festival turned into a massive mud pit and became bloody amazing, unprepared for this I was in flip flops, and those who remembered their wellies were right to be smug about it. Nothing dampened our spirits, bass face took hold and battling T-Rex’s on the MC Podium of the D&B arena really just set the mood for something special. I am glad to of experienced the last SGP, I feel honoured to spend the time with the people I was with and I think this proved to be a fitting end to a chapter of my life that started as abruptly as it ended. Simply put… Bubbles… A big hats off to the team behind SGP and all the Crew and PR/ Marketing that helped to make SGP one of the best events of the year. You guys rock and we are deeply sorry to see you go.

Photo credit - GILES SMITH -FANATIC

So the scene was set as in previous years around the most beautifully landscaped festival grounds of wonder and joy. The Secret Garden this year was a giant sun flower field set behind its secret door at the top left edge of the main festival site. It was a mission to find but well worth the hunt.

to be one blinding weekend that was going to kill or cure all woes known to man.

We could not be more sad to see this festival close its doors.

horeditch Oktoberfest’ arrives in London this Autumn promising to be an alternative and immersive take on the traditional Bavarian beer festival. Positioning itself as the “anti-oktoberfest” organisers say “it was be jam-packed full of games for grown-ups, live entertainment, crowd-interaction and challenges like a Bratwurst eating competition. If you’re

looking for a traditional 5-hour sit-down sipping Weiss Beir - this isn’t for you”. Taking place at the timber-clad Last Days of Shoreditch venue – naturally forming the perfect Bavarian setting - in the heart of East London, the event ran on several dates between Friday 22nd September and 6th October. “An array of custommade décor, cutting-edge production and alpine backdrops will make it a spectacular, fullyimmersive experience”.

Entertainment comes in the form of Bavarian break-dancers, street magicians, a David Hasslehoff Karaoke session and the event is hosted by German ‘comedian’ Herr Kuntz Wankmüller. Traditionalists will also be catered for “There’ll be a few traditional elements, like a live Oompah band, but they’ll be playing hits we deem to be right for Shoreditch Oktoberfest!”

Weeping Willow,

Barrow set to open after major renovation

T

he newly renovated Weeping Willow, situated in the heart of Suffolk, has been brought back to life by renowned florist Paula Pryke OBE and husband, top architect, Peter Romaniuk, and is set to open on September 29th 2017. This Barrow country pub dates back to the early 16th century and is recorded as one of the oldest buildings in the village. Having been closed for the past three years, Paula and Peter purchased the derelict pub two years ago and have spent the past nine months restoring, expanding and redecorating the building, as well as redeveloping the extensive gardens at the rear of the inn. The result is a truly unique modern country

pub, with stylish décor that is sympathetic to the site’s history and new vision combined. Think traditional local meets modern dining, this pub will satisfy something for everyone. Thanks to Paula, Peter and their team, Weeping Willow’s doors will be open from the 29th September delivering a warm environment where visitors can enjoy anything from a homemade scotch egg and a pint, through to a selected local tasting menu with ingredients plucked from their own garden. There are historic elements of the interior interspersed with modern architectural design and the dining room offers fantastic 90-degree views of the surrounding gardens, as well as a ‘Chefs Table’ style, fully open kitchen. The newly appointed Head Chef, Nick Claxton-Webb has

worked across some of the most renowned restaurants in Suffolk, including The Leaping Hare and Ickworth Hotel, where he also first worked with Weeping Willow Manager, Martin Edwards. Nick is putting together a mouthwatering seasonal menu that will aim to cater for everyone. With two spaces for dining on offer, one main open-plan restaurant able to accommodate 60 people, and one private dining room catering for up to 14, and a spacious bar, visitors will not be dis-appointed. The Weeping Willow opens on the 29th September 2017 and will be open everyday from 11am until 11pm. Food will be served from the 2nd October; to reserve a table, please call: 01284 771881 or contact the team on the website: www. theweepingwillow.co.uk

It could only be Orlando, the place where Brits venture year after year for

escape one simple reason- there is so much to do for all ages. Aquatica is the waterpark of SeaWorld Orlando and has a great mix of family friendly and pure thrill rides. One that everyone can enjoy is Roa’s River Rapids. Just imagine a lazy river but without the oversized rubber rings and with a huge current to pull you along, the result is a fabulous feeling of weightlessness as you float with the ubiquitous Florida sunshine warming your bones. Like Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, Aquatica has areas just for little ones

with smaller slides and things to climb. A little different though, is that instead of one huge central wave pool for all of the sunloungers to surround, Aquatica has two wave pools so you can jump in when the surf is high, or opt for the slow and easy option. The most popular ride of all at Aquatica is Dolphin Plunge, a slide that takes you right through a dolphin pool at high speed, it’s definitely best to get on this ride early in the day. If animals are your thing, then SeaWorld itself offers dolphin, penguin and shark encounters as well as popular stadium shows

escape and rides too. One of the first exhibits that greets you as you enter the park is Stingray Lagoon where you can put your hand just under the surface of the water to feel the velvety soft stingrays whoosh by. And nearby you can book for a dolphin encounter to meet Sparkles and friends close up, and as the dolphin trainer says: “You’re going to get wet, very wet!” Soaked to the skin, now might be as good a time as any to try Journey to Atlantis, a water thrill ride, or one of the other super speedy roller coasters at the park. To get the best price, try and book your tickets in advance. A visit to Orlando just isn’t complete though without a visit to Disney and one or more of the Walt Disney World parks such as Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom or, perhaps the biggest and best, Magic Kingdom. Newly opened at Epcot in their World Showcase Norway area is the new Frozen Ever After ride, a magical boat ride that tells the story of Frozen, complete with enormous Marshmallow and mini Snowgies plus THAT song that every child (and most adults) know off by heart. The Royal Sommerhus also in the Norway area has an authentic, cabin like feel and provides lots of photo opportunities, not least at the end when the ever friendly Anna and regal Queen Elsa, transported from their old home at Magic Kingdom, are ready to greet guests young and old!

48

Over at Magic Kingdom, old favourites like Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain and It’s a Small World continue to delight, but one of the most popular rides here now is the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train in Fantasyland. Try and Fastpass this ride if you can. Those that have visited Magic Kingdom before will no doubt recall the stunning night-time fireworks spectacular Wishes which came to an end in May this year. Fear not though, as Happily Ever After has taken its place with a firework finale featuring characters and stories from famous Disney films.

With all of this activity, a place to call home at the end of the day has to be a priority and more families are opting for the comfort a villa can provide. Most, now, offer private pools and anything from two to thirteen bedrooms so that even the largest family, or groups travelling together, can be accommodated. Reunion Resort is popular with families as it has the kind of facilities you’d expect of a five star hotel, but with the convenience and space of villa accommodation. And the villas here are pretty special too. Take Villa W255 which probably looks like the American home of your dreams and has not only nine bedrooms and twelve bathrooms but its own cinema room and bowling alley. Then there’s the five bedroom themed villa complete with individually

Billed as ‘classic American fun’ there’s a definite old-school vibe about the place with its quirky shops, rides and famous Saturday night cruise where vintage cars do the rounds. Even if you don’t visit on a Saturday, you’re still likely to meet some car enthusiasts and

Luxury in

The Lake District This rural setting is the ideal place to relax and unwind

S

et in the majestic Lake District, the new Tarka Holt development is truly a home away from home. Based close to Lake Windermere, these lodges offer everything that you could want to get from owning a holiday home in the Lake District.

50

Tarka Holt provides the perfect base for those who want to discover the local area on foot, indulge in a lake cruise on Lake Windermere, or get a taste of the past by boarding a steam train and traveling around the district the old fashioned way.

The lake and lodges are all set in a private landscaped park, close to the brand you owners lodge. All of the views from your own lodge can be enjoyed from your very own private jetty and boat launch adjoining your private decking which overhangs the lake.

The Tarka Holt park even boasts its own lake, hosting a range of water sports, including canoeing, paddle boarding, raft building and kayaking. This really is a paradise for anyone who loves to be outside rather than stuck in front of a TV.

This rural setting is the ideal place to relax and unwind, breathing in the fresh air and experiencing Mother Nature at her finest. The Lake District National Park offers even more than beautiful scenery, though. With coastal paths and craggy peaks never far away, If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even attempt to scale Scafell Pike, the highest point in England. You’ll feel invigorated on your return to your cosy lodge, as you leave your worries mountainside. For the time we spent at Tarka Holt the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable, boating on Lake WIndermere, (Co Pilot essential to keep a look out for passing ferry’s) was a dream, although really you could do with longer than an hour! The Lakes Aquarium was fantastic, with a rather oddly placed Leaf Cutter Any Colony placed showing the inner workings of how these marvellous creatures live and work. On the last day we

decided to try out the Segway activity on site, taking us for a look around the site and along the old sea walls, getting a first hand look at the old bunkers from the world war two airfield and especially fun going across the on site golf course. From speaking with the experienced staff on site, you can get a feel for just how loved the location is and how well looked after the

owners and guests are by the such a dedicated team. One challenge for you… Can you find the sunken mobile phone in the boating lake? Its to the left of the Reed Island. Be sure to let us know if you do. For more information on Tarka Holt visit www.lodge-retreats. co.uk/tarka-holt/

Road Test -

Aston Martin DB11 This exceptional piece of engineering is a monster on the road

W

timeless elegance that you would expect from Aston, the DB11 5.2 Litre V12 is something else to behold. This exceptional piece of engineering is a monster on the road.

With the DB11 Aston Martin have gone for a lighter weight frame and component’s all designed to get the maximum back out of the car. This includes body panels that are mostly aluminium, plastic-composite quarter panels and bottled and plastic numbers and sills. The doors have even had a lighter touch being made out of Magnesium all in all offering a much lighter car all round.

The car is spacious as it is practical (For an Aston) the back seats offer Iso-Fix for the little ones while the boot gives you enough space for the essentials. I don’t think the team expected people to be moving washing machines in the DB11, and as such you can not really fault them of rate spacing available. To maximise the use of the boot and rear seats, there is a set of Aston luggage tailored to fit. (A Bargain at £3000).

Aston Martin have not had a production car on the lines in over 10 years, with the DB9 launching 13 years ago. This is all part of Aston Martins plans to bring the brand firmly into the 21st Century. The production plan is set to produce 7 all-new models its next period of growth.

Driving this car is something that has to be experienced, in my opinion is a beautiful combination of technology and speed. The 600 BHP Twin Turbo engine will give you a whopping 0 - 60 in 3.8 seconds, and makes you think twice before you fully push the car on the open road.

With a starting price of £144,000 this is one car that you would want to have in the garage, putting it on a firm playing field with the Bentley GT Speed in terms on usability, elegance and ride quality. Out of the two, I would pick the Aston Martin time and time again.

4x4 Luxury

redesigned the Bentley way

A

re you looking for a new style of 4x4 that gives you the edge on those cold winters nights? Ensures that you are on form and in complete driving luxury on the daily school run/commute… Then look no further, it is with great pleasure that we review and introduce the Bentley Bentayga. This new Luxury offering from Bentley is a sight to behold, standing as an imposing mark on the landscape, eating motorway miles and as quick as a GT Speed, this is quite simply elegance redefined in a 4 x 4.

As to be expected with Bentley nothing has been left to chance As to be expected with Bentley nothing has been left to chance, every bit of its design styling is as you would expect. Expert craftsman and women have spent long hours working into the dead of night to bring to the floor a truly awe inspiring 4 x 4 offering. With prices starting at a rather low (for Bentley) £135,800 this is truly the luxury 4 x 4 of choice for a market that has been dominated by the likes of Land Rover for so long. The 0 - 62 is a very impressive 4.8 seconds, given that the Bentayga is slightly bigger than a Q7, you have to consider thats a massive amount of weight to be

bringing up to the speed in less time than it takes to walk from your living room to your bedroom! I know, right? What’s not to like? The Bentayga has enough space to accommodate the family, golf clubs and luggage, and the ability to switch from a luxury family car to an impressive company car to take clients out. This is an all rounder in style, function and form that in my eyes would put it above the Bentley GT Speed in terms of making it into my dream car showroom. With the new release of the Bentley Golf Collection, you can also add a little something extra when you turn up at the golf club.

The of your last

Will and Testament

The document that distributes all your worldly gifts upon your death is something to be taken seriously, explains Emma Woollard from Blocks Solicitors

A

surprising number of us don’t bother or don’t quite get around to writing a Will. Are you one as well? As long as it is prepared in accordance with the Wills Act 1837 you can write it on a beer mat, copy it from the internet, or you could choose to use a solicitor. The financial pressures of modern society mean that most beneficiaries named in a Will could receive the largest cash payout of their lives, however inevitably disputes might arise should a disappointed beneficiary take action to gain a greater share of the estate. The Will determines not only who gets what, but also the amount of inheritance tax payable upon

66

the death of the testator. A badly drafted Will can cause more stress for your loved ones than necessary. Negative press puts a lot of people off writing a Will. A Will is a crucial document and provides clarity and structure to what will inevitably be an upsetting and difficult time following your death. •

If you want to exclude an adult child from receiving an inheritance, then the team at Blocks Solicitors can ensure you receive the best advice to try and mitigate a future claim.

If you own a business then you may wish to ensure your Will anticipates what will happen, enabling your death to be as tax-efficient as possible.

If you are a co-habiting couple then without a Will your partner may well

not inherit what they are expecting, or what you would like them to. •

If you have children from more than one relationship, a Will can clarify who is to receive what, removing the possibility that they may be inadvertently disinherited. Many people also think that making a Will hastens death, but doing nothing will guarantee problems. We at Blocks recommend that you review your Will at least every five years or if there is a significant life event, such as a marriage, having children, grandchildren, retirement, or even receiving your own inheritance. It is definitely something to put a little higher up the “the do” list! Blocks are proud to have been offering sound, supportive, straightforward legal advice to Suffolk for over 125 years. For more information visit www. blockslegal.co.uk or call 01473 230033 to speak to a solicitor.
