A significant project was the national distribution centre for Heinz Watties. The central warehouse is about 20,000 sqm, with minimal legs for uninterrupted space, and required Pro-Structure to design and build special trusses to span and support the roof. The floor had to be reinforced to support the weight of high-stacked pallets, while being durable enough to cope with 24/7 forklift and truck movements, including B trains. A series of additions took the total structure to 30,000 sqm and included purpose-built offices and an extensive fire control system. Until recently, Heinz Wattie’s national distribution centre was the largest facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
