PROJECT 1 PROJECT RECAP (POP UP CAPSULE)

In the small part of kedah, the rural area of Kampung Iboh in Baling, Kedah is in water crisis. In this village, people can only access tap water from 12 am to 2 pm. In this kampung, they also had provided water from their taps at home, where it is from state water utility company, however it still has a problem because of the cultivation of Musang King Durian. At this point, they could just rely on river water. However, river water is often polluted and it turns muddy.

Because of this, it will affect to the villagers who used the water for needs such as drinking water, washing clothes, take a bath, etc.

Most of the people in the rural area of Kampung Iboi took water from the river for their needs such as take a bath, washing clothes and for drinking. Unfortunately, a river might have been contaminated by humans waste, chemicals waste from industry, and garbage.

Due to the lack hygiene awareness in the rural area, as well as limited access of clean, the shower area and restroom area have become dirty.

Therefore, with this issues it might contains bacteria and microorganisms that might affect human's health.

In rural area, womens have limited access to sanitary pads and vanity needs due to the distance that was far away from the city. Therefore,

Filter Technology

Process : 1. Pre Filter : The first place where the contaminated water get into the filter system. It removes bigger particles such as sediments, rust and dirt.

2-3. Carbon Filter's job is to remove chloride and organic particles inside the water. Apart from that, it also improve taste and smell of the water.

4. Reverse Osmosis Membrane : This membrane consists a very fine material, which will allow particles smaller that 0.0005 microns to pass through.

5-6. The function of this filter is to refine the taste and odor before got out from the faucet.

In this case, because the water filter might have a heavy load to carry around, as well as the costs might be expensive, i was planning to make a diy water filter from natural minerals such as rocks, coarse sand, charcoal, fine sand and cloth.

With this method the water can be filtered without any kind of high-demand technology that used in a industry or factory.

Sanitary Pads Vending Machine Sanitary pads is one of the most needed things in woman's life. In this case, it is also very hard to afford especially in the rural area for regular needs. Therefore i have an idea where i'll be making a capsule vending machine that contains sanitary pads for the women. The sanitary pads are free to obtain because not all of the villagers could afford sanitary pads as the prices might be expensive for them.

The way that woman could dispose it is reuse the sanitary pads by washing it and let it dry. In this case there might not have waste of sanitary pads.

Process : -1. Print out the template that you wanted -2. Reverse the fabric and trace along the template -3. Using scissors, cut down the two fabric pieces -4. Place one piece on top of the other, the pattern side should be facing each other -5. Sew the sides of the two fabric pieces and leave the top and bottom bits open -6. Turn down the edges of the top and bottom bits. Stitch along them.

-7. Cut down a towel to be insert inside the fabric.

-8. Sew up the wings and the opening of the pad.

Shower and Restroom Shower and Restroom is provided for the ladies. Therefore, this facilities used to provide clean water for taking a bath as well as used the restroom. This shower and restroom area will be in the same places, where the toilet is hidden in the shower area.

Toiletries such as Body soap and Shampoo is provided, however the bottle is biodegradable where the bottle will disposed when it is watered by hot water.

Process : -Biodegradable bottle is made out of PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoates) and that are a class of natural (not synthetic) polyesters that are derived from bacterial fermentation. In summary, microorganisms synthesize polyesters in nutrient-deficient conditions, and these PHAs can then be harvested.

Wash Hands Wash hands is very essential to maintain our hygiene and health, to ensure that we do not got any germs or bacteria in our hands. In this case, i have an idea where i'll make a compact wastafel that could be reversible/folded back into the capsule. Apart from that, it is also became an interactive machine where people could step on the pedal to obtain clean water and soap. With this method, people wont be touching the faucet like usual and has less contact, especially on these pandemic days , the virus could stay on surface easily and can stay for a few days on that surface.
