Doug Allan swims beside humpback whale and calf in Tonga
O
NE of the world’s leading wildlife cameramen, Doug Allan, will be hosting an evening of enthralling personal recollections from his travels around the world at the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford on Monday, November 2. His stories are accompanied by stunning photography about his career and near death experiences filming dangerous and endangered animals. From being dragged under water by a hungry walrus to being poked while he
slept by a polar bear, Doug never fails to entertain with his exciting stories. He will be also showing incredible photographs from his trips that also feature in his book, Freeze Frame, about his life as a polar cameraman. After a childhood love of diving he qualified as a Marine Biologist, his career kicked off in 1981 after a chance meeting with Sir David Attenborough. He has been shooting and presenting wildlife documentaries for over 30 years including working on well known documentaries such as Frozen Planet,
Blue Planet and Operation Iceberg. Sir David Attenborough said: “For me, wildlife cameramen don’t come much more special than Doug. There’s just no one else who knows these frozen worlds as he does.” He continues to deliver lectures all over the world on wildlife, but 2015 has seen him invited to speak as a leading authority on Climate Change. Since his first visits to the Artic in 1988 he has witnessed first hand the fast altering landscape of this spectacular region. In March this
year the poorest sea ice levels were recorded and this just reinforces his determination and commitment to raise awareness of this global issue. In April he embarked in a series of expeditions for the Living Oceans Foundation, diving in some of the most remote and least visited places in the world he has been charting the decline of our precious Coral Reefs. For tickets, contact the Civic Theatre on 01245 606505 or online at chelmsford.gov.uk/theatres.Adult: £17.50, concessions £15.50.
