2006 with the aim of raising money from a Summer Ball, held at Gail and Jason’s home. Since its launch Wipe Away Those Tears has raised over £1million. To mark the 10th anniversary of the Awards, Tesco is donating £5,000 to a charity of each winning mum’s choice. Gail said: “The money will make such a difference in helping to provide special wishes for children who are suffering from an illness or disability.” Fearne Cotton, TV and radio presenter, is Ambassador of the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards 2015. Fearne said: “I am very excited to help give these incredible mums the recognition and appreciation they deserve.” Debbie Chernin, Tesco Mum of the Year Manger, said: “Gail’s selfless devotion to help others and bring something special to the lives of those that are suffering is truly inspiring.” Since the awards started, Tesco has supported over 80 mums. Gail’s story was selected from thousands of nominations sent in by people from all over the UK.
Two of many children Wipe Away Those Tears charity has helped Yousaf suffered a brain haemorrhage when he was just three weeks old. He was left with a number of problems including Cerebral Palsy, visual impairment and brain damage. An active child who loves to spend time outdoors but due to his development problems, he is not very good at maintaining his balance. His physiotherapist suggested that a specialised trike would be a great benefit and Wipe Away Those Tears were more than happy to help. After a very traumatic birth Lewis Hyam suffers from Hypotonia and Development Delay. Lewis can sit unaided but is unable to stand or walk. He loves being taken for rides in the family car but had outgrown his car seat which was now very uncomfortable for him. His mum desperately needed a swivel car seat and he can now travel in style and comfort in the new seat, kindly donated by Wipe Away Those Tears.
