MOROCCO IN YOUR HOME Translation Pauline SPENCER-PFEIFFER Marrakech, Agadir, Essaouira‌ names full of Moroccan perfumes, colourful souks and friendly smiles, spicy smells escaping from steaming couscous! We love this atmosphere that we can find without leaving our home thanks to 2 people who spend their time ferreting around second hand shops. Once or twice a year, Nicole and RaphaÍl Mouflin cross the Mediterranean Sea to enter the Kingdom of Morocco to do their shopping. As soon as they leave Tanger in their car, a long drive takes them along the coast where they start their shopping. They are on a quest for original objects, curiosities, that are real favourites in France such as woven marriage belts (they make great table sets), Sahraouian veils embroidered by the women who live in the villages on the edge of the desert, and these Mendils, used to protect the skirts of the Rif women during their work in the fields, which can be transformed into table runners. In Marrakech, they visit pottery makers, tin makers, and weavers, all in different areas according to their activities. They wander through narrow streets, looking for something new in the middle 85
