Captain Jack Jill Leighton Captain Jack is a new two-level course for preprimary children, designed to teach English to 4–6 year-olds. Captain Jack follows a story-based approach. The stories feature two children, Katie and Danny, and their pet parrot, Jack. The syllabus covers vocabulary topics that relate to young learners’ immediate environment, and the stories take place within surroundings familiar to children: home, school, the park. It also covers areas of CLIL to make children more aware of the world around them. Worksheet activities are designed to develop children’s motor skills. Early maths and early literacy skills help develop children’s linguistic competences.

COURSES FOR CHILDREN

In Captain Jack 1, Jack and friends visit popular locations such as the park or the beach and meaningful stories ensure pupils are educated in values. In Captain Jack 2 the characters go to exciting locations like London as well as more familiar places. Moreover, magical contexts capture young children’s imaginations.

Captain Jack 1 Captain Jack has a systematic approach to pre-literacy, starting with fine motor skills and pre-writing activities. A special emotional intelligence lesson in every unit helps children to recognize, understand and express their emotions in an appropriate way.

Captain Jack 1

Captain Jack 1 My World lessons focus on crosscurricular areas such as hygiene and the natural environment and include real photos. Captain Jack also works on the Basic Competences – in addition to linguistic competence it covers competence in other areas such as maths, art, ICT, citizenship, interaction with the physical world and personal autonomy.

The catchy songs and chants in Captain Jack provide a memorable and enjoyable way of learning English and of establishing classroom routines. Children are introduced to and practise a new English sound in every unit via mime and dance.

New vocabulary is presented through an illustrated banner. Clear and colourful drawings will help children understand the meaning of the new words.

A cross-curricular page at the end of every unit motivates children by letting them use language and content in a natural and integrated way. This section is clearly signposted so that children can easily identify which subject they are dealing with, for example IT, art, social studies or science.

Lucky and friends The stories in Lucky and friends give children the opportunity to learn the new language and recycle already learnt structures and vocabulary in varied contexts. The contexts, naturally related to children, help them engage with the stories easily and experiment with their own ideas and feelings.

Best Days Viv Lambert Best Days is a new story-based primary course for students aged 7–10 in which cross-cultural aspects facilitates children’s learning process. In each level of Best Days, learners will join the activities and adventures of different groups of multi-cultural characters in each month of the year. In Best Days, children will celebrate their differences and similarities with each other! In Level 1, some episodes show typical everyday activities such as playtime, show and tell, the Green Week or Space Week, which take place in a British primary school. Others are based around specific festivals such as Easter or Christmas. In Level 2, the stories move into the wider community, giving the chance to introduce learners to values and social attitudes, as well as different cultural events. COURSES FOR ADULTS/YOUNG ADULTS

Audio CD

Free Resource CD

Global Lindsay Clandfield, Amanda Jeffries, Jackie McAvoy, Kate Pickering and Rebecca Robb Benne Global is a six-level general English course for adult learners. It is an information-rich course, sophisticated in both presentation and approach. It has an international appeal, combining challenging content, intelligent topics and cross-cultural awareness. It features none of the celebrity-driven lifestyle content often found in typical general English courses for adults. The Global approach is fully aware of the needs of today’s learners, and places an emphasis on effective communication in English between both native and non-native speakers. Global helps users to learn English, to learn about English and to learn through English, and is the ideal course for students who want to communicate in a global environment.

Learn English. Learn about English. Learn through English.

IWB Material Key Features A Coursebook with 15 units containing topics that have been chosen to appeal an adult learner’s curiosity, and to reflect material that they would naturally read for pleasure in their native language. Critical thinking skills are promoted through the choice of topics and the way the material is exploited An eWorkbook with listening and video material which can be viewed on a computer or downloaded to portable devices such as iPods for ‘on the go’ study; interactive grammar and language practice activities; ‘how to’ sections focusing on specific topics such as writing skills and printable worksheets for further study and practice. They are mainly intended for self-study or home study A comprehensive Teacher’s Book pack contains a wide range of materials for teachers using the course. These include background information and language notes, lesson plans, answer key and ideas for adapting global activities to local contexts. There are also specialist essays, focusing on key aspects of language teaching, written by a range of well-known and award-winning ELT guest authors and teacher trainers A Teacher’s Resource CD comes with the Teacher’s Book containing photocopiable worksheets, with a mixture of unit-specific and more general activities and tests A Digital version allows teachers to display the Coursebook pages while also making all of the associated multimedia assets (audio, video, interactive activities) instantly accessible. It can be used with any make of interactive whiteboard or even with a simple projector and laptop combination 3 Audio CDs per level • • • •

GLOBAL ENGLISH by David Crystal Professor David Crystal is arguably the world’s foremost expert on the English language, especially the use of global English. He has written content especially for the Global Coursebook – a first in ELT Coursebook publishing. His ‘Global English’ material is a regular feature at all levels from elementary upwards.

GLOBAL VOICES Today English is just as often used for communication between L2 speakers, and this is recognized throughout Global. The ‘Global Voices’ sections give students the opportunity to listen to a range of authentic recordings of both native and non-native speakers of English.

Global for you LMS is now available! The Global eWorkbook is available as a fully-SCORM compliant module to integrate into your institutional Learning Management System (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
