INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO MACKENZIE FREEMAN

2021-2022

My name is Mackenzie Freeman and I am currently a Junior at Arizona State University studying interior design. I was born in California, but grew up in Arizona for most of my life. Ever since I can remember I have always been a creative soul. I first found a love of painting and drawing, but as I grew older I fell in love with interior design. My passion grew for it deeply because there is so much freedom with it and every project is different from the last. As I am learning about building codes and ADA accessibility there is one major thing that has stuck with me; interior design is more than just making a space look good, it is providing a comfortable and practical space designed for the user. As I look back on my old projects, I can appreciate how much I have grown and hope I can only show more growth in the future.

I separated the “experience part” which includes make your own makeup stations, coffee bar, and makeup stations with the retail part of the store to make it easier to get to exactly what you came for. To block off the back of house rooms like the admin office and employee room, I places a glass partition wall to still make the space feel more open and not close it off completely. The glass also matches the stained glass feature on the ceiling of the building.

The color and material pallet was inspired by the undertones of skin which also corresponds to the name of the brand “Melanin Me”

Point of Impact Room

INT 262 (Spring 2022)

A room designed to spread awareness about a climate change issue prevalent in today’s world. This is a walk-through museum designed to inform visitors about coral reefs and how they are slowly dying.

I divided the museum into three sections to represent the cycles of the coral reef. The first part when you enter is “life”. The large aquarium to the side contains touch screen panels with information on how the coral reef helps the ocean and provides so many benifits. The middle section is “transformation” which contains a theater room that would play a video informing guests about how the coral reefs are dying. Finally, the last section is “destruction” as it would represent and show the aftermath of the coral reefs going extinct. I also included a small lounge attacted to the final section of the meusem for guests to discuss how to help save the coral reefs to invoke a call-to-action.

LIFE TRANSFORMATION DESTRUCTION

I took inspiration from the coral reefs and sea life to piece together a material pallet. I wanted the user to feel as though they are in the ocean as they walk through the space.

3Form Chroma as the ceiling which would have lighting above it twinkling to imitate the feeling of being under water.
