Skin Care Does Makeup Age Your Skin? Throughout history, women have used makeup to enhance their appearance. Some women do it for art and fashion. When I was younger, I only wore eyeliner and lipstick, and now, in my midfifties, I only wear makeup on Sundays or for special occasions. However, I’ve observed many women spend over an hour applying layers of makeup, from foundation to lipstick, and there’s been recent debate regarding the long-term effects of makeup on the skin. Dermatologists have warned that everyday makeup can damage skin over time due to heavy ingredients, including parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, mineral oils, and talc. These ingredients can clog pores and block skin cells, resulting in damaged and wrinkled skin due to insufficient oxygen and care. On the other hand, cosmetic products with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, hydroquinone, and peptides may protect the skin from harmful chemicals. However, it’s important to note that applying too many layers of makeup can lead to negative effects. Love your skin, and it will love you back. 11 Mackeline July 2023
