ALTHOUGH THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR IN KEY CLUB, IT HAS GROWN TO BE MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL. IN ALL HONESTY, I WASN’T SO SURE THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE THE RIGHT CLUB FOR ME. AFTER VOLUNTEERING WITH FRIENDS AND OTHER PEOPLE IN MY COMMUNITY, IT BROUGHT ME SO MUCH JOY AND HAPPINESS. FOR EXAMPLE, I HAVE PARTICIPATED IN WORKING CONCESSION STANDS FOR SCHOOL GAMES, HELPING OUT WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR THEIR COLOR RUN, ASSISTING AT A HALLOWEEN EVENT FOR THE KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY, COOKING DINNER FOR KIDS KORRAL, AND PAINTING A WALL FOR THE GOODWILL ADULT DAYCARE CENTER. I ALSO GOT THE CHANCE TO ATTEND LEDCON, WHICH IS A SOCIAL CONVENTION FOR KEY CLUBS. THERE, I ALSO LEARNED ALL TOGETHER HOW TO BE AN EVEN GREATER COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUB. LEDCON IS A GREAT WAY TO LEARN ABOUT KEY CLUB, ALL WHILE HAVING A TON OF FUN. THIS YEAR FOR LEDCON THERE WAS ONLY HALF THE USUAL ATTENDANCE. HOPEFULLY OUR CLUB CAN ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WANT TO GO TO LEDCON. PERSONALLY, BEING ABLE TO ATTEND LEDCON HAS DEFINITELY MADE ME MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT BEING INVOLVED IN THE CLUB, AND HELPED ME TO FIND SOMETHING I CAN WORK FOR. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE JOINING KEY CLUB BECAUSE LITTLE BY LITTLE WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY. BY DOING SO YOU CAN MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND BONDING EXPERIENCES. KEY CLUB IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR FRESHMEN COMING INTO HIGH SCHOOL WHO ARE LOOKING TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH THE SCHOOL. THIS IS THE KIND OF CLUB WHERE YOU ASK YOURSELF “WHY WOULDN’T YOU DO IT?” BECAUSE IT IS NOTHING BUT POSITIVE WORK. OVERALL, KEY CLUB HAS MADE A BIG IMPACT ON MY HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HOW MUCH MORE OF AN IMPACT IT WILL MAKE LATER ON. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT EVERYBODY IN HIGHSCHOOL SHOULD GIVE KEY CLUB A CHANCE, BECAUSE IT BRINGS NOTHING BUT GREAT THINGS FOR EVERYONE.

CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK MORE THAN 10 MILLION KIDS ENTER A CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL ACROSS NORTH AMERICA EVERY YEAR. CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS RELY ON DONATIONS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT, AS MEDICAID AND INSURANCE PROGRAMS DO NOT FULLY COVER THE COST. SINCE 1983, THE CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK HAS HELPED FILL THOSE FUNDING GAPS BY RAISING MORE THAN $7 BILLION, MOST OF IT $1 AT A TIME THROUGH MIRACLE BALLOON ICON CAMPAIGNS. ITS VARIOUS FUNDRAISING PARTNERS AND PROGRAMS SUPPORT THE NONPROFIT'S MISSION TO SAVE AND IMPROVE THE LIVES OF AS MANY CHILDREN AS POSSIBLE, INCLUDING KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL.

Keeping an Engaged Club Outside of School By: President Gracie Cunningham

This is my second year as The MHS Key Club President, and I plan on making it the best year yet! Last year I made a ton of choices that I plan on doing differently this year. This year I plan on implementing many social activities starting this summer. So far I have planned three summer socials for our officers to bond and three club socials to get our club active. My plan is to pull people in with the fun aspects of Key Club. As we go into a new school year, I know students will be figuring out which groups they’d like to involve themselves with and my hope is that they attend a social or two or even just see what we are all about, and decide that they would like to be a part of our amazing club! Officer socials included a skating social, which happened in June and was an extremely useful bonding time and a pool party full of lots of fun that will happen towards the end of July! We also will have a team building social during enrollment week! For membership socials, I tried to keep them as inexpensive as possible. We started our summer off with a Braums social and plan on having others at a local coffee shop and one with watermelon in July! Through all of these socials, I am really hoping they keep our club engaged because I want our members to have fun with us this summer and be ready to serve in August. We also have a few service events this summer! We will be volunteering at Kids Korral, the Freedom Fest, and a few more places!. Ultimately, I believe we will walk into the new year stronger than ever and that our membership will thrive like never before! With the leadership and dedication our officers are showing, there is no doubt in my mind that we will have an amazing service year!

Pg. 10

KIDS KORRAL Once a month, a few members from our club go to Kids Korral in Oklahoma City. There, they cook and serve food to families who have children diagnosed with cancer. It is a lot of members favorite event because you get to cook with friends, and serve those who really need and appreciate it.

Vice President Faith West Faith is a first time officer and one out of two Vice Presidents. Faith is going into her junior year and is passionate about the club and service to others. She says, “My favorite part of Key Club is helping people and seeing how much happier it makes them when their faces light up. If someone was thinking about joining Key Club, I would tell them they should definitely do it. Not only are you helping your community, you're making an impact on so many people in numerous ways. You also have fun doing it and making memories with people that have the same passion for helping others as you do. Key club has helped me be more involved because I've met so many different people, not only from my school, but also from all over the Texas Oklahoma district. I've been more outgoing and trying to help everyone I see and make sure they're doing okay, even if they just need a friend to talk to.” Faith is a great leader and friend to everyone.
