Editor’s Note

Hello Key Clubbers! Welcome to my very first newsletter EVER! I cannot wait to start the year off as the new Editor for the 2022-23 school year. After having one year of experience with Key Club as a freshman I quickly realized that this was an organization that I would fall in love with. The endless opportunities to serve our home, school, and community is what makes Key Club so fun for everyone. Writing is one of my favorite things to do, along with serving which is why I am so honored to withhold this position. Attending LEDCON this past weekend has only bettered my skills in both writing and web design. I took numerous forums on how to be a better servant leader in Key Club, and as an Editor. Now that I understand the importance of Editor, and the big shoes to fill for this position, I am ready to get to work. I know that the end of the year is stressful for everyone, but I hope you all continue to practice being servant leaders in your home, school, and community. Let's finish the year out strong! Yours in service, Cate Dennis

Freshman, Aspen Edwards is serving popcorn to customers at the concession stand.

Being in key club can do a lot for you. As a freshman in high school it can get difficult because you may not have many friends, or know what to do since it’s a lot different from middle school, but being in key club has helped me with all of that. The people I have met through Key Club are very welcoming and friendly. They accept everyone that joins, and they like to help each other. Key club has helped me practice being a good leader for the future, and you get to help the community and others. But being a freshman in key club is different because you are new to all of it, but there are a lot of good opportunities to offer. One of my favorite events I have participated in is a archery event where we got to score and help with concessions. This is just one of the many fun events you can attend. When I started doing more events I got more hours. This gave me the opportunity to get to go to LEDCON. I got to attend this year, and it was so much fun. LEDCON can teach many things that are helpful for your future life. One thing I learned is how to recruit other members to key club. This can be useful for the future with jobs, and I learned how to public speak and many other helpful things in life. Being in key club isn’t all just serious and learning, it is also a lot of fun. I got to go to the pet shelter and feed and play with the animals. Key Club has opened so many doors for me by meeting new people and experiencing new things. The benefits are endless. I am so grateful to be apart of such a fun and impactful organization.

Service beyond High School Pg. 8 By: Matthew Nicholas With my time in key club coming to a close, I plan to attend Cameron University where I will study exercise science to inevitably become a Physical Therapist. When I get my degree I plan to open up my own physical therapist business in a big community. When I get to Cameron University I plan to join CKI which is the higher level of Key Club. I want to attend as many events as I can so I can continue what I truly love, which is giving back and serving the community. I truly believe that serving is something anyone can do and everyone should do, it's so much fun. I know many people in CKI so I believe I will settle down real fast and continue to serve. My 4 years in Key Club has taught me to be selfless and to be kind and charismatic. It also has taught me to be a good leader, I hope to continue to an average of over one hundred service hours a year and hopefully one day be the head of the club at Cameron University. I also plan on seeing if I can volunteer around our local hospital or the school’s around our community. Key Club has been a tremendous part of my life and I believe that I shouldn’t let it all go. If my plans fall through I will still find some way to serve the community. I most likely will serve the community till the day I die. Key Club has taught me some of life’s greatest lessons. I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me to grow into the man I am today.

CHARACTER CREATES SMILES

Dylan Helvey

Krislyn Sellers always has a smile when she serves others! Here she is passing out cleaning supplies to families in need during the holidays.

The four core values of Key Club are leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. All four of these core values are extremely important to me, my school, and my community. These values have helped me accomplish my goals and achieve my aspirations. They are also important to Key Club and its ambition to serve the community and help people. Each of these core values stands out in its own way and has helped me develop as a person, but character building stands out the most to me personally. To build character is to grow as a person and learn how to serve my community. Building my character has helped me develop and advance in multiple ways. Through Key Club, I have gained an eagerness to serve my community, and my growth has gone beyond Key Club activities and into my personal life. While participating in Key Club activities, building character has strongly stood out to me. I have had to learn how to give up my own time to serve others. After taking part in some activities I realized that, though it may not be easy, giving up my own time to help others is a big contributor to building character and becoming a better person. Activities like trash pickups have helped me learn about and become more thoughtful of the environment. Donating to food drives has helped me discover how I can contribute to my community, even in small ways. No matter what the activity is, I learn something new about my community and how I can build character. The value of building character has also kept with me in my everyday life. I have realized how helping others can make me a better person. Even just small additions to my community have helped me learn about those around me and how I can support them. By simply offering to lend a hand or listening to someone, I can further my understanding of my community and continue to improve. Building character stands out so much to me, so I will keep striving to build character and better myself as a person.
