1. Write about your favorite service event so far this year. by Nour Bou Alwan My favorite service event that we have done this year has got to be picking up trash at Elmer Thomas. The Macarthur Key Club headed down to Elmer Thomas and picked up trash that was thrown around the lake. First, we started at one part of the lake then made our way around the lake picking up any piece of trash that was around us. We split into groups so that we can make sure we have as much coverage as possible and that we can get as much trash picked up as possible. Each group was split into three to four people and we were handed gloves and trashbags to put everything we picked up in, our group alone gathered around six full bags of trash! Getting to pick up trash at Elmer Thomas was a great way to get involved and serve our community, and it felt great knowing that with every piece of trash you picked up, you helped make our town a better place. Besides getting to serve the community, this event was a fun way to hang out with friends, helping my friends serve the community was fun and it felt like we were giving back to the community. I am very thankful for the opportunities that Key Club provides for me and many other students all around the world. Picking up trash around a lake might not sound like a lot but it affects our community greatly and without clubs like Key Club people all around, specially teenagers, would not know the joy that comes with serving the community. This whole experience was very fun and it increased my love of service and helping the world around us.

2. My First Key Club Experience by Dawson Hargett The first event for Key Club that I ever went to was to repaint park seating areas for Elmer Thomas Park. I was fairly surprised to see a pretty decent quantity of people that I know from school that I had no idea were in Key Club. Everyone seemed pretty positive about showing generosity for their own community. The task was pretty simple and we started painting right away in different groups and out of the groups that I personally got to work with everyone seems to have the same positive energy. I was honestly enjoying doing something that's considered to be a chore. Everyone was working pretty fast and efficient. One person did spill a little bit of paint but we laughed it off and cleaned it up. It didn't take long for all of us to paint the seating areas and we conversated while we worked. We went from area to area wherever we needed to go. The three hours we were there went by like it was just thirty minutes. Afterwards someone even generously made sure if I had a ride home, I did as I drove myself home but it was the generous offer that told me the people in Key Club are all very thoughtful. The event overall was easy and we did great work to make the park looker way better than it did. I felt pretty good knowing what me and others had accomplished for the park. It was only my first event in Key Club but I still felt good for achieving the hours of community service. My first event was a very enlightening experience for the very charitable organization that is Key Club. I'm eager to become more a part of this organization and to have more opportunities to strengthen my community.

3. What is one major event your club is working on this year? by Nour Bou Alwan Key Club has many big events every year , but one of the biggest ( the one I am personally very excited about) is Relay for Life. This event is one of the biggest and best events that we have every year at Key Club. The purpose of Relay for Life is to honor and raise awareness about cancer, through the night, multiple clubs participate in fun activities, and then later in the night we have a luminary in which we honor and remember people who beat cancer and people who passed away due to cancer. Though this event makes people sad during the luminary ceremony, seeing everyone stand together and help each other through these hard times. Key Club prepares for Relay for Life by assigning committees to take care of certain things. Committees range from hair (helping during the hair cutting ceremony), games (setting up games for the booth), decorations (decorating the booth), luminaries (selling luminaries and helping to make them) and many more. I am really excited for Relay for life this year, though it will be a little different due to the situations with Covid 19 and restrictions being put. Relay for life is a great way to get in touch with the community and comfort your friends when they need it. I would say Relay for Life is one of the most important events that Key Club has and I am very excited for this year and the wonderful experience it will be. Though it is a crazy year, Key club always manages to stay positive and keep everyone in good spirits and lifts people up, I think even with the restrictions given to us that Relay for Life will be great as always and I am really looking forward to it this year.

4. Describe Key Club's impact on you and others. by Ashley & Shirley Suqui Helping the community is beneficial to all. It helps boost morale around the community and brings people together. Key club is a prime example of these. With Key Club we have access to service events that we might not have heard of without it. In school there are many things that can stress students but Key Club provides a way for students to relieve stress by helping others and our environment.

For example last week we went to Elmer Thomas Park to pick some trash up, it was a great and fun experience, we picked the trash around the lake, and we found a lot of interesting things like insects and weird trash, we also found a snake near a tree, it was a huge snake green blackish with some yellow color. But after that we continue to pick more trash up we found a lot of plastic bottles and some baby clothes in the water, we were separated in groups of three and four people, our group had four people and we got to know each other a little bit more we were talking while we continue to pick more trash up we spend two hours looking and picking up trash, I think this was a fun experience because it keeps the community and environment clean, keeps toxins out of the planets and also helps reduce pollution.

5. Every cloud has a silver lining. Write about how your club has demonstrated optimism or perseverance through a difficult situation. by Nour Bou Alwan There are always rough patches and a silver lining in everything. With that, Key Club is constantly trying to make the best of every situation. Through the thick and the thin, Key Club is committed to constantly persevere, push through, and help everyone that is going through a rough time and overcome tough situations. Everyone in Key Club is very supportive and helpful towards each other and members always try to uplift others that are going through a rough patch. In terms of this year ,so far, Key Club has done an amazing job with pushing through all of the issues this year, Covid 19 has taken a huge effect on this year overall and also has taken a toll on some of the events that we do, such as not being able to serve kids at kids korall ( which hopefully will be resumed soon) and others. Even with these problems Key Club continues to serve and help our community and has shown great perseverance and leadership during these times. I am very proud to be a part of this club as the leadership and dedication it shows towards serving and helping the community is very outstanding. With all the negative issues that are brought up in the world today it can be a little tough and sometimes you might need a safe place where you feel welcome during the hardest times, and that place is definitely Key Club. The sponsors of Key Club and the officers always make sure to bring the best spirit to meetings and it always brings a smile to my face. Key Club is doing an amazing and outstanding job this year, as they do every year, and I hope that we can continue to help each other in difficult times.
