1.

Why is serving the community important? By Nour Bou Alwan

Serving is important to the community because of many reasons, one of the main reasons being that service brings and connects the community. Volunteering connects people to their community, teaches the importance of helping others in need, and makes our community a better place one act of service at a time. These times especially connect communities, Covid has brought negative effects on a lot of us, but serving brings us together and reminds us that we can get through this together. Another really important reason to serve the community is that volunteering around multiple different people from your local area broadens your horizons and opens your eyes. Involving yourself in your community helps you meet new people and forms friendships, you get to help better the world first handedly and see the positive impact that acts of kindness can have on your community. Volunteering is great! And if there is a way for you to get more involved with your community I would strongly advise you to. For me, I got more in touch with my community by joining Key Club, since then, I have gone to multiple service events and got to get in touch with our locals. Since I started volunteering more I have felt a better connection with the people of our community, volunteering has become a love to me and I enjoy serving the community and look forward to it every time that I get the chance!

2. How are you or your club promoting inclusiveness? by Nour Bou Alwan Inclusiveness is a major cornerstone in Key Club, reflected in membership, activity, and service where every member is given an equal opportunity on every level of participation. Key Club members are represented equally, as everyone from our school is given an equal opportunity to join Key Club and participate in the various service opportunities it offers. Key Club has members from different grade levels, diversity also plays a big role in inclusiveness as many schools around the country offer students in high school to be a part of this amazing club. Aside from the inclusiveness and diversity of members, Key Club also offers an immense amount of service and volunteering events, ranging from things like volunteering at the animal shelter to donating blood. As a member, you can do various amounts of volunteering events, service opportunities range from donating goods to CASA kids, to volunteering to walk and play with dogs at the local animal shelter, all is offered with Key Club! Key Club makes sure that all members can fulfill the monthly hour requirement by including events that require volunteering for the people that cannot get to all of the in person events, to in person volunteering events such as donating blood, helping around in the local food bank, picking up trash around the Elmer Thomas lake, and many more! Another type of event Key Club offers is writing essays for our editor Kamdyn! These are all great ways to get your hours. Key Club makes sure that no member is left out and does a great job at providing everyone an equal opportunity to volunteer and help serve the community. Inclusiveness is a very prominent part of Key Club as is shown by the diversity of members and various ranges of events offered to members.

3. How have you been serving this month? By Nour Bou Alwan Key Club has been very thoughtful this year on making service events possible whether you are present virtually or traditionally, and because of that, I have been encountered with many volunteering opportunities that I try to accomplish. I have been able to serve my community this month by the events that Key Club has offered. Key Club members are presented with many events, whether virtual or physical, and those include: donations, Kids Korral, blood drives, writing articles, going to the animal shelter and many more. This year has been especially challenging due to the circumstances of covid, but the Key Club community is making volunteering possible during these difficult times, and it is trying to ensure that the people at home get an equal opportunity to serve by providing ways to serve our community from our own homes! Volunteering brings our community together especially during the harder times. I have been giving back to my community and fulfilling my duties as a Key Club member by attending as many events as I can. Some of the events I have attended include cleaning up trash around Elmer Thomas, attending a blood drive social, driving up to the city to give food donations to Kids Korral, and many more. And for the times I could not be in attendance physically, I tried my best to serve from home, a way of doing that is writing articles that people outside of Key Club can read. A big service event that I will be attending is Relay for Life. It is a march for cancer, honoring the survivors and remembering our loved ones. I am very excited for this event, as it is one of my favorite events, even though it turns emotional. I am really glad to be a part of Key Club and to be a part of a club that continues to serve even through the harder times.

4. With elections around the corner, what are your next steps in your Key Club journey? By Nour Bou Alwan February is a very exciting month for Key Club, it is election season! This is a very thrilling time for Key Club members as they get to see who is elected to organize and lead the club in the upcoming year. I plan on moving forward in my Key Club journey by becoming an officer. Some of the positions offered by Key Club this year include president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, editor, historian, and others. Many people will be nominated to represent these offices, but only one will be elected for each position; and after that each person that is elected for an officer position will be supervised by the current officer that holds that position. Being an officer for Key Club is a very big responsibility and the people that end up being elected have a great responsibility in representing Key Club and its members in the best way possible, and if I get elected as an officer I will make sure that I do the best job I possibly can. Everyone in Key Club plays a big role and is equally important in representing the club and showing the community what Key Club is all about. Even if I do not get elected for an officer position, I am still looking forward to my next steps in my Key Club journey and I am very excited to see the exciting service events and opportunities me and many other Key Club members are going to be presented with. Election season is a very important and exciting time for Key Club and its members as it determines our next steps in our Key Cub journey, and I am more than excited to see the group of officers that will represent

Key Club in this upcoming year!

5. How has your view of Key Club changed? By Nour Bou Alwan One of the first clubs that high school freshmen join is Key Club. Yet, here I was, joining Key Club as a Junior. When I entered high school, I asked multiple people what extracurriculars I should join, and everyone advised me to join Key Club, but I never did because I thought that it was not my thing. But this year I decided to join, and my opinion has changed immensely. After almost a year of being a member of Key Club, my views of the club have immensely changed since freshman year. One of the reasons that I did not join earlier in my high school career was that I thought that other clubs would have community service as well, but I quickly realized that the service opportunities Key Club offers its members are unique, and that every club has different purposes. Key Club made me realize my love for helping and serving the community! Every Tuesday, I look forward to our meetings to see what new opportunities I am going to get to serve my community. My views on Key Club have definitely changed and I am really glad that I joined and that I get to help the people of our town. Key Club plays a big role in service and helps its members get in touch with their surroundings, help others, and meet new people that do the same things. I got to serve with other people who help our communities. For example, we got to talk to fire fighters when we provided them food for thanksgiving, it is always nice to talk to others who impact our community and help locals. I definitely regret not joining Key Club earlier, because I really enjoyed it this year!
