DRYSURF TRAINING EN CORRALEJO
PREPARA TU CUERPO PARA LO QUE LE VAS A PEDIR... Mientras lees estas líneas un nuevo centro Drysurf Training abre sus puertas en Corralejo, concretamente en el Hotel Corralejo Beach Drysurf training es un método de entrenamiento que trabaja la propiocepción al realizarse sobre una tabla inestable (funcional balance) sobre la que se realizan entrenamientos funcionales. Drysurf nació en Fuerteventura hace 5 años de la mano del Preparador Físico y Osteópata Miguel A. Lindoso (CSD Centro de Salud y Deporte) como la herramienta perfecta para la recuperación de lesiones deportivas y entrenamientos de surf. Con el tiempo, junto a sus socios Carlos Lindoso y Mauro Gascó, desarrollaron este sistema de entrenamiento adaptable a todos los deportes. Hace unos 3 años Drysurf training abrió sus puertas en el
Centro de Salud y Deporte de La Oliva, donde además de los entrenamientos funcionales realizan las rehabilitaciones controladas por los terapeutas del centro. Hablamos con Mauro Gascó sobre los detalles del nuevo centro de Corralejo. Háblanos sobre este método de entrenamiento Nuestra herramienta es una tabla inestable adaptable a todo tipo de entrenamientos funcionales. Nuestra metodología está basada en la propiocepción (equilibrio), necesaria para todo tipo de deportes y la vida misma. Los mismos entrenamientos que se hacen en el suelo se adaptan a este sistema, eliminando impactos agresivos y ejecutando la postura correctamente evitando, al máximo, lesiones y daños articulares. Una vez que te subes a la tabla se ponen a trabajar unos 600 músculos, por lo que es un entrenamiento de lo más completo y saludable.
en el surf, tanto iniciación como perfeccionamiento; es perfecto para cualquier deporte de deslizamiento… ¿Cómo son las clases? En grupos reducidos para trabajar de una forma casi personalizada, controlando al detalle cada entrenamiento, y adaptando los ejercicios a las intensidades de cada uno. Lunes, miércoles y viernes de 17:00 a 20:00h. Se irán abriendo más días en función de la demanda. ¿Y para las escuelas de surf? Nuestra idea es ceder el espacio, tanto el de La Oliva como el de Corralejo, a las escuelas que quieran practicar con sus alumnos movimientos específicos del surf, ya que para la iniciación es una herramienta con mucho potencial. Tienes una tabla, inestable, sobre la que practicar y repetir todos los movimientos que tanto se tarda en interiorizar en el agua. Pueden además hacer video-corrección, no hay nada mejor que verse a uno mismo para corregir posturas. Algo más que nos quieras contar… Que se animen a probarlo, es un entrenamiento específico, terapéutico y profesional con el que te pones en forma y además te diviertes. En el Hotel Corralejo Beach está también el Centro CSB Optimize Your Surfing que ofrece clases personalizadas de surf tanto en el agua como en drysurf. PRECIOS: 2 clases/semana, 60 euros mensuales. Si el pago es trimestral, la cuota es de 50 euros/mes.

NEW DRYSURF TRAINING CENTRE IN CORRALEJO PREPARE YOUR BODY FOR WHAT YOU WANT FROM IT… While you are reading these lines, a new Drysurf Training centre is opening its doors in Corralejo, in the Corralejo Beach Hotel, to be precise Drysurf Training is a kind of exercise that works on proprioception: through the use of an unsteady board on which to perform functional fitness trainings, you can improve your functional balance. Drysurf was created in Fuerteventura 5 years ago by the personal trainer and osteopath Miguel A. Lindoso (CSD - Centro de Salud y Deporte in La Oliva) as the perfect tool to recover from sports injuries and to train your surfing. Over time, together with his partners Carlos Lindoso and Mauro Gascó, Miguel developed this training system that can be adapted to all sports. Three years ago, Drysurf Training got started in the Health and Sports centre in La Oliva (CSD - Centro de Salud y Deportes) where, apart from functional fitness trainings, they offer rehabilitation programs, controlled by the therapists of the centre. We talked with Mauro Gascó about the details of this new centre in Corralejo. Can you tell us something more about this training method? Our work tool is an unsteady board that can be adapted to all kinds of functional trainings. Our method is based on the proprioception (balance), which is necessary for all types of sports and in our own lives. The same workouts you do on the floor can be adapted to this system; as a plus, strong impacts are eliminated and positions can be performed correctly, minimalizing injuries and joint damages. Once you get on the board, you start exercising roughly 600 muscles. That’s why this is one of the most complete and healthies trainings you can do. Who is this kind of training for? It is for everybody, no matter their age, there are no limitations. It is ideal to improve your shape, working on the balance through functional fitness trainings adapted to the needs and intensities of each person. It is perfect for those athletes who want a specific training to improve their abilities in the sport they do. Of course, it is ideal to improve your surfing, for both beginner and advanced levels; it is perfect for any sport that implies sliding on a surface. How are the lessons structured? We work with small groups, so that the attention is almost personalised. We keep a closer eye on every training and adapt the exercises to every person’s intensity. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5 pm to 8 pm. More lessons will be scheduled according to the requests.
And for the surf schools? Our idea is to offer surf schools the possibility to use our centres, both in La Oliva and in Corralejo, to practice the specific movements of surfing, since our work tool has a lot of potential for beginners. You have an unstable board where you can practice and repeat all the movements it’d take you longer to learn in the water. Video corrections can be used, as well: there is no better way to correct your positions than by seeing yourself. Is there anything else you wish to tell us? Dare yourselves to try this training! It is a specific, therapeutic and professional workout you can get fit with while having fun.
In the Hotel Corralejo Beach you can also find the clinic CBS Optimize Your Surfing, where they do personalised surf classes both in the water and through drysurf. Prices: 2 classes/week, € 60 per month. If you pay for 3 months, it is € 50 per month.

PROBABLEMENTE, EL MEJOR CAFÉ DE FUERTEVENTURA
Uno de los bares míticos de Lajares el Arco, tradicionalmente conocido por sus bocadillos, se convierte en 2013, a manos de de Michel Rozenwajn, en El Arco Surf Café.
Son varios los puntos fuertes de El Arco, entre ellos su café de excelencia. Michel es un gran amante del café y por ello decidió especializarse en este producto y diferenciarse así del resto de locales de la zona. Tal es el caso que, a día de hoy, en El Arco podemos disfrutar de uno de los mejores cafés de la isla, que él mismo encarga en distintos países del mundo: Costa Rica, Etiopía o Indonesia. Su procedencia va variando para ofrecer distintos sabores, pero la calidad del café siempre está garantizada, grano a grano. La calidad del producto, sumano a la delicadeza y mimo con los que los preparan, son los secretos de El Arco para enamorar a sus clientes. Dice Michel que «una vez que pruebas
estos cafés ya no quieres otros», por ello también los vende a granel, en grano o molido, para que lo puedas disfrutar en tu casa. Las hamburguesas son otro de los platos fuertes de El Arco. Michel tiene su propia receta a la hora de prepara la carne. Totalmente caseras, elaboradoras, en la medida de los posible, con productos km 0 y pan artesano, encontramos hamburguesas para todos los gustos, incluso para vegetarianos. La última incorporación, la de carne ibérica, es muy recomendable. La política de productos de cercanía de El Arco les permite ofrecer una variedad de ensaladas también muy destacable, con vegetales y quesos de Fuerteventura o Canarias. Presume Michel de su ensalada de rúcula de Lajares, muy apreciada por sus clientes. Y para los amantes cerveceros, también ofrece además de las clásicas marcas, cerveza artesanal de Fuerteventura y Lanzarote.
PROYECTO IZAKAYA Desde hace unos meses, Michel se asocia con Christopher Boseret (de Volcanic Foods Catering Co.), cocinero belga especializado, entre otras cocinas en comida japonesa, para ofrecer un fin de semana al mes, las cenas del Proyecto IZAKAYA. La «izakaya» es el equivalente japonés a nuestro bar de tapas de toda la vida, que ofrecen raciones pensadas para compartir. Así, en las noches japonesas de El Arco, nos ofrecen mucho más que pescado crudo, como carne estofada, costillas de añojo, tempura de gambas, tempura vegetariana, makis de pollo… La siguiente cita con las cenas del Proyecto Izakaya será el 13 y 14 de abril, las noches del viernes y sábado.
Y, por supuesto, no podemos dejar de alabar la cálida atención que Michel y su pareja nos ofrecen siempre en este ya consagrado Surf Café de Lajares.

One of the mythical bars in Lajares is El Arco, traditionally well known for its sandwiches. In 2013, this mythical bar becomes El Arco Surf Café, run by Michel Rozenwain. It has several strong points, among them their excellent coffee. And this is because Michel is a great lover of this infusion and, to make a difference to the rest of cafes in the area he decided to specialise in this product. So much so, that nowadays, In El Arco, we can enjoy probably one of the best coffees in the island, which Michel himself orders to different countries in the world: Costa Rica, Ethiopia or Indonesia. Its origin varies to offer different flavours, but the quality of the coffee is always guaranteed, bean by bean. This coffee of excellence, together with the great care when preparing each cup, are the secrets of El Arco to make their customers fall
in love with their coffee. Michel says that «once you have tasted these coffees you don’t want any other else», so he also sells it in bulk, ground or as beans, for you to enjoy it at home. Nowadays, hamburgers are another strong point of El Arco. Michel has his own recipe to prepare the meat, totally home-made and elaborated, as far as possible, with local products; he also serves artisan bread. We find burgers for every taste, even for vegetarians. The last incorporation, Iberian meat, is highly recommendable. The policy of local products in El Arco allows them to offer a variety of salads that stand out too, with vegetables and cheese of Fuerteventura or The Canary Islands. Michel boasts of his salad with rocket from Lajares, very appreciated by his customers. And for beer lovers he offers, apart from the classical brands, artisan beer from Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
IZAKAYA Project Some months ago, Michel associated with Christopher Boseret (from Volcanic Foods Catering Co.), a Belgian cook, specialised in Japanese food among others, to offer the dinners of the IZAKAYA Project a weekend a month. «izakaya» is the equivalent to our well-known «tapas» bar, offering servings to share. So, in the Japanese nights of El Arco they offer much more than raw fish, that is, stewed meat, ribs of baby-beef meat, shrimp tempura, vegetarian, chicken makis… The next appointment with Izakaya Project will be on April 13th and 14th, Friday and Saturday night. Of course, we cannot forget praising the warm attention Michel and his partner always offer in this already mythical Surf Café from Lajares.

HUERTOS URBANOS

En Puerto del Rosario, ubicados en la Gavia de los Hormiga, y en pleno corazón del barrio del charco se encuentran los huertos urbanos que gestiona el ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario. Se trata de un total de 54 huertos divididos en 2 fases en las que los hortelanos cultivan sus parcelas con gran variedad de hortalizas y plantas aromáticas. Su trabajo tiene que reflejar una serie de condiciones, que sean de cultivo ecológico y que su venta no esté permitida. Y es que se trata de huertos con un fin social y con un objetivo ambicioso pero factible, que es la soberanía alimentaria. Dentro de todos estos conceptos gira la Asociación AVANFUER, organismo dinamizador de los huertos desde hace años, no sólo de la comu.10

encuentra el reciente Centro de Agroecología y Medio Ambiente Urbano, donde hemos preparado una pequeña exposición de semillas de los propios huertos. Parte de este programa de dinamización se refleja en el reciente curso que hemos celebrado: Huertos Urbanos y Permacultura 2019, celebrado desde el 21 de febrero al 18 de marzo. El curso fue impartido por el especialista en agroecología y diseño en Permacultura, Greorg Friedrich Horn, que nos visita desde Hamburgo donde trabaja en proyectos de permacultura repartidos por la ciudad. Durante el trabajo, además de profundizar en la permacultura como filosofía y estilo de vida, se trataron temas de importancia como algunas técnicas para el aumento de la fertilidad de los suelos, el diseño de huertos o la preparación de semilleros agroecológicos. Además, con él, nos visitó Celine Müller-Berg, especialista en la vertiente más artística de la permacultura para hacer un taller de arte y naturaleza que fue todo un éxito. Practicamos técnicas como la impresión con luz o el teñido de huevos con tintes naturales a base de plantas de los huertos. Nos visitaron interesados de distintas partes de la isla que disfrutaron del taller y pudieron llevarse a casa las obras que realizaron. Desde Asociación AVANFUER, además, realizamos distintas actividades, charlas o talleres a lo largo del año. URBAN ORCHARDS In Puerto del Rosario, located in la Gavia de los Hormiga, and in the very heart of «el barrio del charco» we find the urban orchards managed by the town hall of Puerto del Rosario. There is a total of 54 orchards divided into two parts where gardeners cultivate their plots with a variety of vegetables and aromatic plants. Their task has to meet a series of conditions, it must be organic growing and its trade mustn’t be allowed. And this is because they are orchards with a social purpose and with an ambitious but feasible target: food sovereignty. AVANFUER Asociation revolves around all of these concepts and they have invigorated the orchards for years, not just in the community made up by the gardeners but also those by hundreds of students at schools that have visited us, as well as other groups and associations. The association works in different projects within orchards, like a small permaculture pilot project that will become three years old and it’s the result of the labour and pampering of the soil. Attached to the orchards we find the recent Urban Agroecology and Environment Centre, where we have prepared a small exhibition of seeds from the very orchards. Part of this revitalizing programme is portrayed in the late course we have carried out: Urban Orchards and Permaculture 2019, from February 21st to March 18th. The course was taught by the expert in agroecology and Permaculture design, Greorg Friedrich Horn, who visited us from Hamburg, where he works in Permaculture projects delivered all over the city. During this project, apart from deepening into Permaculture as a philosophy and life style, they dealt with important matters such as some techniques to increase soil fertility, the design of orchards or the preparation of aggro-ecological seedbeds. Moreover, together with him, Celine Müller-Berg, a specialist in the most artistic side of permaculture, visited us to teach a workshop of art and nature, which was a real success. We practised techniques such as botanical printring or the dyeing of eggs with organic dyes made of plants from the orchards. Interested people from different parts of the island visited us, and they enjoyed the workshop and took home the pieces of work they had made. Con motivo de su 15º aniversario, arrancan las celebraciones visitando Fuerteventura en una parada, en el 722 de Lajares, que han llamado NEW YORK JAZZ DINNER, con un ensamble músical excepcional, KIKE PERDOMO y TORSTEN DE WINKEL NEW YORK JAZZ QUARTET. Kike Perdomo es uno de los grandes saxofonistas de nuestro país. Ha representado nuestro archipiélago como destacado músico de jazz por todo el globo junto a artistas de la talla de Joaquín Sabina, Chano Domínguez, Eric Marienthal, Taburiente y la Big Band de Canarias entre otros.
Torsten de Winkel, premiado guitarrista y director artístico de Bimbache openART, es un frecuente colaborador de grandes premios Grammy, como Pat Metheny, Joe Zawinul, Whitney Houston o Grandmaster Flash, entre otros, y de muchos músicos cercanos al universo Miles Davis, como Santana y Herbie Hancock.

QUE EN LA ISLA DE FUERTEVENTURA EL AGUA HA SIDO HISTÓRICAMENTE UN BIEN ESCASO NO ES NINGÚN SECRETO, PERO CUESTA IMAGINAR HASTA QUÉ PUNTO LA NECESIDAD DEL LÍQUIDO PRIMARIO CONDICIONÓ, DURANTE MUCHOS AÑOS, LA VIDA DE SUS POBLADORES. Pozos, fuentes, aljibes, gavias, alcogidas, maretas,… tropecientos inventos han sido diseñados por los habitantes de la isla de Fuerteventura a lo largo de la historia motivados por la búsqueda de un mismo fin: conseguir agua para vivir. Al norte de la isla, en las alturas del entorno del Valle de Vallebrón, se encuentra Tababaire, fuente de felicidad donde el agua que brota de entre las piedras ha sido aprovechada desde tiempos prehispánicos. La existencia de grabados rupestres en los alrededores de la fuente revela que los aborígenes de Fuerteventura, los mahos, la descubrieron y utilizaron centenares de años atrás. Seguramente fuera considerado un lugar adorado y mágico, pues ¿cómo explicar que brotara tan preciado bien de entre las rocas en una tierra sin lluvias? Ahora sabemos que se debe a la lluvia horizontal, que proviene de las nubes, razón que explica que el agua que mana de la roca sea constante, muy rica, pero también muy limitada. Más tarde, conquistada la isla y dominada por Los Coroneles, cuando se secaban los aljibes que abastecían a los hogares del pueblo, los vecinos de La Oliva emprendían el camino hasta Tababaire, .16

TABABAIRE WHERE THE TREASURE FLOWS By Guaxara Castañeyra muchas veces en burro, armados de paciencia pero sobre todo de necesidad para esperar durante horas a que se llenara una barrica casi gota a gota.
EL MIRADOR Hoy en día Tababaire no salva a familias de la sequía, pero se trata de una vista que merece la pena. Por un lado, el entorno de la fuente tiene un encanto y unas vistas que impresionan, desde un mirador elevado a cuatrocientos metros que ofrece una panorámica que abarca desde los llanos de Tebeto, el Barranco de Esquinzo, los pueblos de La Oliva, Lajares, El Cotillo y Majanicho y alcanza hasta la isla vecina de Lanzarote en los días más claros. Por otro lado, se trata de un trocito del pasado de la isla, un testigo que cuenta una historia sobre las penurias que llegaban a dominar la vida de los majoreros por la escasez de agua. Una historia sin la que el ayer de Fuerteventura no se podría escribir.
TIT ISN’T A SECRET THE FACT THAT WATER HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SCARCE RESOURCE IN FUERTEVENTURA, BUT IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE UP TO WHICH POINT THE NEED OF THIS PRIMARY LIQUID DETERMINED THE LIFE OF ITS POPULATION FOR MANY YEARS. Wells, springs, cisterns, ditches, hillside reservoirs, artificial pounds… thousands of inventions have been designed by the inhabitants in the island of Fuerteventura along history motivated by the search of a common target: getting water to live. In the north of the island, near the area of the valley of Vallebrón, we find Tababaire, spring of happiness where the water flowing from the stones has been used since prehistoric times. The existence of cave engravings in the surroundings of the spring reveals that the native people from Fuerteventura, the «mahos», discovered and used it hundreds of years before. It was surely considered a charming and magic site as, how could they explain that such a precious blessing could spring from the rocks in a land where it hardly ever rained? Now we know it’s due to the horizontal rain coming from the clouds, which explains that the water flowing from the rocks be continuous and very rich, though limited. Later on, once the island was conquered and dominated by The Colonels, when the cisterns supplying the homes in the village ran out of water, the neighbours in La Oliva set off towards Tababaire, very often on a donkey’s back, loaded with patience but most of all with the need to wait for hours for a barrel to get filled almost drop by drop.
THE VIEWPOINT Nowadays Tababaire cannot save the families from the drought, but it’s a site that deserves the visit. On the one hand, the surroundings of the spring have a charm and amazing views from a 400-metre-high viewpoint offering a panoramic sight which extends from the plains of Tebeto, the ravine of Esquinzo, the villages of La Oliva, Lajares, El Cotillo and Majanicho to the neighbouring island, Lanzarote, on the clearest days. On the other hand, it’s about a piece of the past in the island, a witness telling a story about the poverty that came to rule the lives of «majorero» inhabitants due to water scarcity. A story without which the past of Fuerteventura could not be written. .18

HOY Y TODOS LOS DÍAS EN EL MARCO DEL DÍA DE LA MUJER TRABAJADORA, EL PASADO 8 DE MARZO, SE SUCEDIERON MANIFESTACIONES POR TODO EL PAÍS CLAMANDO A LOS POLÍTICOS Y LA SOCIEDAD UNA IGUALDAD QUE NO TERMINA DE LLEGAR, UNA IGUALDAD QUE YA NUESTRAS MADRES, Y LAS SUYAS ANTES QUE ELLAS, PEDÍAN CON PEQUEÑOS GESTOS Y SIN TANTA VOZ. Durante todo el mes, se celebraron en la isla multitud de muestras y actividades con el objetivo de dar visibilidad a las mujeres de toda índole, edad y ocupación. La exposición «La Habitación Propia», comisariada por Nadia Martín, es una de ellas; una congregación de obras firmadas por mujeres residentes en la isla, que se pudo ver en el Centro de Arte Juan Ismael de Puerto del Rosario y que se llevó a cabo con el fin de intentar cambiar las estadísticas de la presencia femenina en el arte, y es que solo un 18% de las obras expuestas en los grandes museos del país tienen firma de mujer. «Mujeres de Tierra y Sal», una exposición de la Asociación Cultural Raíz del Pueblo, de La Oliva, en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de La Oliva, el Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario y el Cabildo de Fuerteventura, que se albergó en La Casa de Los Coroneles de La Oliva, por su parte, homenajeaba el trabajo de la mujer majorera en la tierra y el mar. Una muestra que compartía las experiencias de las mujeres de la isla a través de los años cuyo papel era el de trabajar el campo, recorrer orillas buscando marisco, preparando el pescado, elaborando queso y además: cuidar, sanar y acompañar siempre. .22
NOW AND EVERY DAY También, el documental de Fayna Brenes, «El Saber Popular», que se visionó en Lapa Studio y está disponible en YouTube, igualmente pone voz y rostro a las campesinas majoreras y da a conocer un poco mejor el pasado femenino de la isla, a través de relatos reales de mujeres de Fuerteventura. Con el hilo conductor de los remedios tradicionales que utilizaban sirviéndose únicamente de recursos naturales, escuchamos a las mujeres majoreras y su saber popular. Y es que la lucha feminista va muy de la mano con la defensa medioambiental y, como bien proclama la directora de este proyecto, poniéndoles voz a ellas, también devolvemos la palabra a la naturaleza. De su boca conocemos mejor cuál era el papel de la mujer en otros años en los que el término «conciliación» no se oía ni se mentaba; y la casa y los hijos estaban intrínsecamente ligados a la mujer y recaían sobre ella sin importar las horas que echaran en el campo. Hoy esa palabra se oye un poco más pero sigue sin paladearse del todo. El 8 de marzo da visibilidad a la realidad de la mujer en todo el mundo. Sirve para recordar a las que ayer nos allanaron el camino para que las de hoy pudiésemos elegir en qué trabajar o con quién casarnos, o decidir si casarnos o no, o si tener hijos o no, y salir a la calle sin miedo. ¡Oh! espera, eso aún no ha llegado. El 8 de marzo también nos recuerda que aún queda mucho por hacer. Por todo ello, celebramos y reivindicamos el 8 de marzo, que lo fue ese día, y lo es hoy y lo será todos los días.
IN THE CONTEXT OF THE WORKING WOMAN’S DAY, LAST MARCH 8TH , THERE WERE SEVERAL DEMONSTRATIONS OVER THE COUNTRY CLAIMING POLITICIANS AND SOCIETY FOR AN EQUALITY THAT NEVER ARRIVES, AN EQUALITY THAT ALREADY OUR MOTHERS, AND THEIRS BEFORE THEM, CLAIMED FOR WITH LITTLE GESTURES AND NOT SO MANY WORDS. During the whole month, thousands of signs and activities, with the aim of making women of any nature, age and occupation be noticed, were carried out. The exhibition «La Habitación Propia», held by Nadia Martín, is one of them, a collection of works signed by resident women in this island, which took place in the Art Centre Juan Ismael in Puerto del Rosario and which was carried out with the objective of changing the statistics of the female presence in the art, as just the 18% of the works exhibited in the great museums in the country are signed by women. «Mujeres de Tierra y Sal», an exhibition by the Cultural Association «Raíz del Pueblo», from La Oliva, in cooperation with the townhalls in La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario and Fuerteventura Island Council, held in «La Casa de Los Coroneles» in La Oliva, honoured the work of Fuerteventura’s women on the land and sea. And this is because the feminist struggle goes hand in hand with environmental defence and, as the director of this project very well proclaims, letting them speak we also turn it back to nature. By listening to them we get to know the role of women in other years when the word «conciliation» couldn’t be heard or mentioned; the home and family were inherently linked to women and they were responsible for them, no matter the hours they had been working the land. Nowadays their voice starts to be listened to, but still not enough. March 8th lets women’s reality in the whole world be noticed. It makes us remember the women that smoothed the way so we now we can choose where we’d like to work or whom we want to marry to or whether we want to marry or not, have children or not to have them, go out to the street without fear…. Wait, we haven’t seen this yet. March 8th also reminds us there’s still lots to be done. For all these reasons we still celebrate and reclaim on March 8th , which was that day, is still today and will always be every day.

A long time in the municipal dog home waiting for a definitive home We’d like to find a definitive home for this cute furry dog. His story is like that of many other petsV, he was abandoned in July 2018 and nobody seems to take notice of him in the Municipal dogs’ home in La Oliva. Despite his breed, Toque, that’s his name, feels like a shy and clumsy lap dog. He loves playing with the ball and short carts. He isn’t aggressive with people or dogs, but because of his breed he needs an owner with a licence; in the very dogs’ home they help with the procedure to get it, it is easy. Being three years old, Toque, with his big smile, deserves a definitive family. Further information:

EPÍCTETO ¿Cómo crees que sería tu día si un idiota que no sabe conducir se te cruzara por la carretera, obligándote a frenar bruscamente? Es probable que le insultes por la ventanilla y tal vez él, hasta te enseñe el dedo. Pero… ¿Y si una persona accidentalmente perdiera el control de su vehículo pero gracias a tu rápida reacción nada malo ocurriera y se quedara solo en un susto? Durante el resto del día… ¿Te sentirías igual? Seguro que no. Si te fijas bien, ambas, podrían ser la misma situación, simplemente vividas desde perspectivas muy distintas. En el primer ejemplo y de forma consciente o inconsciente, la persona opera desde el enfado y buscando culpables y en el segundo ejemplo la persona está más orientada a ver y describir sus experiencias desde el amor y el entendimiento. ¿Y DE QUÉ DEPENDE LA PERCEPCIÓN DE NUESTRAS VIVENCIAS? CUANDO NOMBRAMOS UNA EXPERIENCIA CAMBIA EL SIGNIFICADO QUE LE ATRIBUIMOS
tras emociones también dependen de dónde ponemos nuestro foco de atención. Hoy, nos vamos a centrar en un tercer factor, las palabras que usamos para describir los eventos que nos ocurren, ya que cuando nombramos una experiencia, según las palabras elegidas le vamos a atribuir un significado u otro, tal y como hicimos al comienzo de este artículo al tratar de describir una misma situación de dos formas distintas. ¿Me explico? SUBE EL VOLUMEN Y ESCÚCHATE… a) ¿Qué palabras usas para describir los eventos que vives? b) ¿Qué otras palabras podrías utilizar para que la connotación sea más suave? Ejemplos: a) En lugar de «me siento humillado»…podemos decir… «me siento sorprendido» b) En lugar de «me siento solo»… «estoy disponible» c) En lugar de «me siento perdido»… «estoy buscando» Recuerda que no nos traerá el mismo resultado decir que nuestro día no está yendo cómo quisiéramos, a decir que estamos teniendo un día terrible; las señales que enviamos al cerebro son muy distintas. Tampoco es lo mismo decir que hemos fracasado en alguna experiencia a decir que hemos aprendido algo nuevo. Thomas Alva Edison nunca dijo que había fracasado 10.000 veces antes de inventar la bombilla, simplemente dijo que aprendió 10.000 maneras de no hacerlo. THE POWER OF WORDS «IT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU, BUT HOW YOU REACT TO IT THAT MATTERS». EPICTETUS How do you think your day would be if an idiot who is not good at driving nearly hit your car, forcing you to brake abruptly? You may probably insult them through your window and they may stick their middle finger up. But… what if someone was losing their car control but thanks to your fast reaction nothing bad happens and it all ends up with nothing but a scare? During the rest of your day… would you feel the same? I’m sure you wouldn’t. If you think about it, they can both be the same situation, simply lived from two totally different perspectives. In the first example, both consciously or unconsciously, someone reacts with anger and looks for the culprit, and in the second example someone is more directed towards seeing and describing their experiences through love and understanding. WHAT DOES THE PERCEPTION OF OUR EXPERIENCES DEPEND ON? A couple of months ago, we talked about how our physiology can modify our mood in just a few seconds. Last month we saw how our emotions also depend on where we put our focus of attention on. Now, we are going to concentrate on a third factor: the words we use to describe what happens to us. When we talk about an experience, we give it one meaning or another according to the words we choose, as we did at the beginning of this article when we tried to describe the same situation in two different ways. You know what I meanw? TURN UP THE VOLUME AND LISTEN TO YOURSELF... What words do you use to describe what happens to you? What other words could you use for their connotation to be lighter? EXAMPLES: a) Instead of «I feel humiliated» we can say «I feel surprised» b) Instead of «I feel lonely»… «I am available» c) Instead of «I feel lost»… «I am searching» Remember that we are not going to get the same result by saying our day is not going the way we wished, rather than saying we are having an awful day. The signals we send our brain are quite different. Neither is it the same to say that we failed in some experience, rather than saying we learnt something new. Thomas Alva Edison never said he had failed 10.000 times before inventing the light bulb, he simply said he learnt 10.000 ways not to do it.
