COTILLEANDO 2017 Artistas locales e internacionales se darán cita en el Festival Artístico Cotilleando 2017, que por segundo año consecutivo, y tras el éxito de su primera edición, se desarrollará por las bonitas calles del casco viejo de El Cotillo durante los días 14 y 15 de octubre. Artistas del circo, la danza, el teatro, la música, la artesanía y otras disciplinas desarrollarán su arte aprovechando la especial estructura del casco viejo de este bonito pueblo, precisamente para dar valor a sus mágicos callejones. Este especial festival es obra de la conocida artista circense Stefania Faga que, afincada y enamorada de El Cotillo, y gracias a la colaboración del ayuntamiento de La Oliva, ha conseguido poner en marcha esta iniciativa, magníficamente acogida el año pasado, y que este año trae aún más sorpresas y actividades. La tarde-noche del sábado, de 20 a 23h, se celebrará el festival itinerante y las distintas distintas actuaciones se irán desarrollando en diferentes rincones del casco viejo. Así, los artistas se irán mezclando con el paisaje aprovechando la especial estructura de esta zona del pueblo, obligando a los espectadores a moverse por los callejones para descubrir y dejarse sorprender y maravillar con las performances. Además, la tarde del sábado se celebrará el mercado de artesanos CotiArte en la plaza del pueblo antes de que de comienzo el festival. El domingo, desde las 16:00 en el Muelle Chico, se cele-

brarán distintos talleres y actividades para todos los púbicos, especialmente para niños. Talleres de tela y trapecio, equilibro y malabares, juegos y pintacaras,… A las 18:30h comienza el espectáculo final inédito, en el que participaran la mayor parte de los artistas que se dan cita en esta edición, cada uno aportará su arte, con la dificultad de que solo ensayarán 2 días para esta gran actuación final en la que se combinan todas las disciplinas. Stefanía Faga nos cuenta lo difícil que es poner en marcha un festival de esta categoría que cuenta con artistas de proyección internacional y a pesar del reducido presupuesto con el que cuenta, por ello quiere agradecer al ayuntamiento de La Oliva por el imprescindible apoyo, a los empresarios de la zona por hacer sus aportaciones y, especialmente, a los artistas, tanto del año pasado como de este, por creer en el arte y hacer el esfuerzo por participar en un festival tan especial. Entre los distintos artistas que se darán cita en esta nueva edición cabe destacar al bailarín internacional Ben Furi, quien ya participó el año pasado; el majorero Domingo Saavedra que también nos deleitó en la pasada edición con su piano; Althay Páez con el timple y Juan Umpiérrez con la guitarra… Otros grandes profesionales de la danza como Juan Cabrera, el equilibrista Sandro Sassi, la acrobata Linda Vellar y Fabio Nicolini, artista de la compañía de circo Eia que, con el espectáculo InTarsi ganó el prestigioso «premio MAX» por espectáculo revelación.

Los días 14 y 15 de octubre los callejones de El Cotillo serán el epicentro del arte con actuaciones y actividades para todos los públicos, ¡no te lo puedes perder!

14 Y 15 DE OCTUBRE / 14TH AND 15TH OF OCTOBER Local and international artists will meet at the Artistic Festival Cotilleando 2017, which - for the second year in a row and after the success of its first edition- will take place throughout the beautiful streets of the old part of El Cotillo during October 14th and 15th. Artists from the circus, dance, theatre, music, crafts and other disciplines will show their art taking advantage of the special structure of the old part of this beautiful village, just to give value to its magic alleys. This special festival is a work of the well-known circus performer Stefania Faga, settled down and in love with El Cotillo, and thanks to the cooperation of La Oliva council she has been able

to launch this initiative, really welcome last year and bringing even more surprises and activities this year. Saturday evening, from 20 to 23h, the travelling festival will be celebrated; different performances will take place at different corners of the old village. That way, artists will intermingle with the scenery, taking advantage of the special structure of this part of the village, making the audience move throughout the alleys to find out and let themselves be surprised by the performances. Moreover, on Saturday afternoon the craft market, CotiArte, will take place in the square of the village, before the beginning of the Festival. On Sunday, from 16:00 in «Muelle Chico», different workshops and activities for all kinds of audience, especially for children,

will take place: Trapeze and netting, tightrope walk and jugglery, games and face painting…. At 18:30 the final show starts, Inhedito, where most of the artists meeting in this edition will take part. Each of them will contribute their art, with the inconvenience of just having two days to rehearse for this big final performance where all the disciplines will be combined. Stefania Faga tells us how difficult it is to set into motion such a Festival, which counts with international artists in spite of the reduced budget. This is why she thanks La Oliva Council for its essential support, the businessmen of the area for making their contributions and, especially, the artists (from last year and from this year) for believing in art and making an effort to take part in such a special festival. Among the different artists that will meet in this new edition we must highlight the international dancer Ben Furi, who already participated last year; the majorero artist Domingo Saavedra, who also delighted us last year with his piano; Althay Páez with his «timple» and Juan Umpiérrez with his guitar… Other big professionals of the dance like Juan Cabrera, the tightrope walker Sandro Sassi, the acrobat Linda Vellar, and Fabio Nicolini, an artist from Eia circus that, with its show in Tarsi won the prestigious MAX prize to the Best First Show.

Nos encontramos con el shaper de Joyas Surfboards, Julien Sicre (41) que vino a Fuerteventura hace 14 años atraído por las olas, el paisaje y el ambiente de la isla. Nacido en Francia y criado en Venezuela su vida ha estado marcada por el surf desde temprana edad. ¿Cuándo y por qué llegaste a Fuerteventura? Vine de vacaciones un mes a Fuerteventura en febrero de 2003 y me encantó: el paisaje, las olas, el ambiente, la gente y las oportunidades que daba la isla a nivel profesional en aquel momento. De vuelta a casa, organicé todo, cogí mi coche, mis herramientas y en junio de ese mismo año volví para quedarme. ¿Surfeas todo lo que quieres? Relativamente sí, mi trabajo me da bastante flexibilidad, aunque nunca es suficiente, siempre se quiere más (risas). Ya no es tan prioridad como antes, por la familia y demás, de todos modos, es una parte importante de mi trabajo también el estar en el agua y probar las tablas. -www.vacaazul.es-

¿Te has dedicado siempre al mundo del surf? Pues a nivel profesional no, porque hace falta mucha experiencia para poder vivir de eso. He trabajado en muchas otras cosas a parte de esto.

¿Desde cuándo te viene esta pasión? Empezó muy temprano, debía tener 7 u 8 años de edad. Recuerdo las vacaciones en Venezuela, donde crecí. El ir a pescar con mi padre y el contacto con el mar. Siempre teníamos un par de buggies para mi hermano y para mí, empezamos por aquel entonces a coger olas y nunca lo dejamos. ¿Cuándo empezaste a hacer tus propias tablas? Cuando hice mi primera tabla tenía 14 años. Desde entonces hice alguna más, pero empecé a hacerlas a nivel profesional y venderlas con 20 años. .8

¿Quiénes son tus referencias en el mundo del «shaper»? Es curioso que me hagas esa pregunta porque acabo de cumplir un sueño, que era trabajar con Malcom Campbell, un shaper legendario que inventó en los años 70 las tablas Bonzer, con unos diseños que cambiaron totalmente el rumbo de la creación. Trabajar con él ha sido una gran experiencia. ¿Cuál dirías que es tu punto de diferenciación? No sabría decirlo. Creo que somos todos diferentes. Mi trabajo es el reflejo de mi personalidad y la experiencia que he adquirido a lo largo de los años, tanto en el agua como fuera. El surf ha guiado casi toda mi vida y pienso que lo seguirá haciendo.

I came here for one month holiday in February 2003 and I loved it: the landscape, the waves, the environment, the people and the opportunities the island offered at a professional level at the moment. When I returned home I organised everything, I took my car, my tools and in June the same year I came back to settle down. Do you surf as much as you like? Relatively, I do. My job gives me a great deal of flexibility, although it’s never enough, you always want more (laughs). It’s not a priority, like before, because of the family and so on, but any way it’s an important part of my job to be in the water and test boards as well. Have you always been devoted to the world of surf? Not at a professional level, because you need a lot of experience to live from surf. I have worked in many other things apart from this.

When did this passion arise? At a very early age, I would be around 7 or 8. I remember the holidays in Venezuela, where I was brought up. Going fishing with my father, the contact with the sea. There were always a couple of buggies for my brother and myself; we started to catch waves by then and we have never stopped. When did you start to make your own boards? I was 14. From then onwards I made some more, but it was when I was 20 that I started to make and sell them at a professional level. Who are your idols in the world of the «shaper«? It’s interesting that you are making that question because my dream has just come true: working with Malcom Campbell, a legendary shaper who invented the Bonzer board in the 70’s, with designs that turned totally the tide of creation. Working with him is being a great experience. What would you say that makes you different? I wouldn’t be able to say it. I think we all are different. My work is the reflection of my personality and the experience I have gained over time, in and out of the water. Surf has led almost my entire life and I think it will keep doing it.

According to the data published by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), the autonomous communities with the highest hotel occupancy rates in August were Baleares, with the 91,1% of their hotel beds occupied; The Canary Islands, with the 87,7% and the Autonomous community of Valencia with the 81,2%.

PRIMER SEMINARIO EUROPEO DE

SURF ADAPTADO FIRST EUROPEAN SEMINARY OF adapted surFing Los días 6, 7 y 8 de octubre tendrá lugar en Fuerteventura, el Primer Seminario Europeo de Surf Adaptado, organizado por la asociación Play and Train. La asociación Play and Train trabaja hacia facilitar el acceso a la práctica deportiva de personas con discapacidad. Su labor, sin embargo, se amplía a muchas otras facetas: educación en valores, superación y convivencia a través del deporte, programas educativos y de sensibilización hacia las personas con discapacidad, voluntariado y asesoramiento a empresas con vocación inclusiva, entre otras funciones.

«el deporte normaliZa. el deporte incluye. el deporte educa» Con la organización de este seminario Play and Train quiere situar a Fuerteventura en el mapa del surf adaptado, por las condiciones meteorológicas de la isla y porque existe un gran potencial en el crecimiento a nivel de accesibilidad. Play and Train llegó a Fuerteventura en 2011 cuando tuvo lugar su primer campamento de surf adaptado y desde entonces se suceden a lo largo del año distintos campamentos donde adultos y niños con cualquier discapacidad sensorial, física o psíquica aprenden a surfear y disfrutan de las olas. En este seminario se buscará mejorar las bases del surf para llevarlo hacia el nivel paralímpico; es decir, establecer qué tipo de material será más adecuado a nivel de competición; a nivel de clasificación médica qué discapacidades y qué categorías se van a establecer dentro del formato competición; además se hará un intercambio entre los diferentes programas de surf adaptado que hay en Europa (España, Italia y Portugal) y Estados Unidos. El seminario incluye conferencias con deportistas nacionales e internacionales; charlas con ponentes de los organismos internacionales del Comité Paralímpico Internacional (IPC) y la Asociación de Surf Internacional (ISA); mesas redondas donde se trabajaran los aspectos técnicos del surf como deporte de competición, clasificación médica, material, anti dopaje. Se tratarán temas como la importancia del surf como motor económico de una zona, equipamiento deportivo, presentación de los distintos programas de surf adaptado. .12

El Comité Paralímpico Internacional reconoció, el pasado mes de julio, el surf como deporte, lo que abrió las puertas a poder luchar para llevar el surf a convertirse en deporte paralímpico, es decir a formar parte de unos futuros Juegos Paralimpicos. «Este seminario será el primero de varios y la idea de futuro es acompañar cada seminario con una competición que permitirá hacer los estudios necesarios para establecer el tema de las clasificaciones médicas» comenta Mariona Masdemont, cofundadora y Directora de Proyectos de Play and Train. Este primer seminario será posible gracias al esfuerzo humano y económico de Play and Train, a la aportación de los fondos económicos del programa Erasmus plus sport de la Comunidad Económica Europea y al apoyo de varias empresas de la isla como es Bristol Sunset Beach y Dry Surf Fuerteventura. On October 6th, 7th, and 8th the first European Seminary of adapted surfing , organised by Play and Train Association, will take place. Play and Train aims at making it easier for handicapped people to access sports. Their task, however, expands to other fields: education in values, personal growth and coexistence through sports, educational programmes and awareness towards disabled people, volunteering and counselling to companies with inclusive vocation among other functions. «Sports normalize. Sports embrace. Sports educate» With the organization of this seminary, Play and Train wants to locate Fuerteventura in the map of adapted surfing, taking advantage of the weather conditions in the island and also because there is a great potential in the growth of accessibility. Play and Train arrived in Fuerteventura in 2011, when its first adapted surfing camp took place, and since then there have been different camps where adults and children with any sensory, physical or psychological disability have learnt to surf and enjoy the waves. This seminary aims at improving the basis of surf to make it reach a paralympic level, that is, to establish what kind of material will be the most suitable regarding competition; regarding medical classification, what disabilities and what categories are going to be established within the frame of competition; moreover, an exchange among the different programmes of adapted surfing in Europe (Spain, Italy and Portugal) and The United States will be conducted. The seminary includes conferences with national and international sportsmen, talks with speakers from international organisms of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Surf Association (ISA); round tables where technical aspects of surfing as a sport of competition will be dealt with, medical classification, material, anti-doping. Topics like the importance of surfing as the economic engine of an area, equipment, presentation of the different programmes of adapted surfing will be dealt with. The International Paralympic Committee recognised, last July, the surf as a sport, which opened the doors to fight and make surfing turn into a Paralympic Sport, that’s to say, to take part of future Paralympic Games. «This seminary will be the first of several, and the idea for the future is to accompany every seminary with a competition that will allow carrying out the necessary studies to establish the medical classifications», Mariona Masdemont states, co-founder and Manager of Play and Train Projects. This first seminary will be possible thanks to the human and economic effort by Play and Train, the contribution of funds by Erasmus plus sport programme from the European Community and the support by several companies in the island like Bristol Sunset Beach and Dry Surf Fuerteventura. Ready for a new «Macaronesia Party»? One more year we celebrate the anniversary of Macaronesia Magazine with a new edition of the already well-known Macarovolcanic party. In this occasion, Baku Place, in Corralejo, has been chosen to celebrate these 8 years down the track of our magazine. This so awaited event will start on October 27th at 21h, and local and international djs will perform in its booth, apart from other surprises and spectacles. Among the cymbalists we will have Ellenbeat, Italian dj and producer who has been sharing her music for over ten years in the best clubs in Italy, Croatia and Baleares; in 2013 she signed her first single as a music producer, and in 2014 she was in the best venues in the Italian and European scene as the super hit «Qué guapa».

CORRALEJO ACOGERÁ LA PRIMERA EDICIÓN DE

NOGILAND CAMPEONATO DE JIU-JITSU BRASILEÑO Los días 21 y 22 de octubre podremos disfrutar en Corralejo de un evento sin precedentes en Canarias, Nogiland Fuerteventura, una competición de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileño (BJJ) en sus dos modalidades, con kimono (GILAND) y sin kimono (NOGILAND).

CORRALEJO WILL HOST THE FIRST EDITION OF NOGILAND, CHAMPIONSHIP OF BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Desde hace unos años el Bjj despunta y cada vez son más las personas que lo practican, precisamente en Fuerteventura ya cuenta con muchos seguidores. Así este campeonato organizado por el equipo NOGILAND nace con idea de consolidarse y convertirse en un referente en el calendario nacional de competiciones en beneficio de los deportistas y seguidores insulares que tendrán una cita anual cerca de casa. El Brazilian jiujitsu es un arte marcial, deporte de combate y sistema de defensa personal brasileño, de origen japonés que está enfocado principalmente a la lucha cuerpo a cuerpo en el suelo. La práctica de BJJ mejora la condición física, instruye y constituye una evasión del stress gracias al trabajo físico y mental que requiere el dominio de las técnicas. Todas estas características hacen del BJJ uno de los deportes con mayor difusión y crecimiento a nivel mundial. En este encuentro, niños de hasta 17 años, adultos hombres y mujeres de 17 a 30 años y categoría máster de 30 años en adelante, competirán en sus respectivas categorías celebrándose la modalidad con kimono el sábado 21 y sin kimono el domingo 22. Es un evento que aglutina a deportistas de toda la península y de distintos puntos de las islas. La entrada al evento es gratuita para ambos días y además se ha puesto en marcha una campaña de recogida de alimentos para ofrecer a distintas asociaciones de la isla, con lo que puedes aportar tu granito de arena llevando alimentos no perecederos. NOLIGAND es una iniciativa creada por amantes y practicantes del BJJ que ofrece competiciones estables en el calendario en las modalidades con y sin kimono cuyo objetivo es establecer competiciones periódicas y estables en el calendario nacional e internacional ayudando así a potenciar, difundir y hacer crecer la comunidad de este deporte que día a día aglutina más seguidores.

On Ocober 21st and 22nd, we’ll enjoy an unprecedented event in the Canary Islands: Nogiland Fuerteventura, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition (BJJ) in two different modalities: with kimono (GILAND) and without it (NOGILAND). All these characteristics make BJJ one of the sports with the greatest international scope. It’s an event that gathers sportsmen from the peninsula and the different parts of The Islands.
