KINESIO TAPING Por_by Clínica Principal

El kinesio taping, también conocido como vendaje neuromuscular, es una técnica que utiliza cintas adhesivas para tratar lesiones musculares.

Fue inventada en Japón en los años 70 y los primeros en utilizarla fueron ortopedistas, quiroprácticos y acupunturistas, mientras hoy en día se ha difundido a muchos deportistas profesionales y aficionados. La aplicación de esas cintas adhesivas permite mejorar la lesión muscular a través de la tracción biomecánica del músculo. Ayuda, de esa forma, a reducir la inflamación, mejorar la circulación y, como consecuencia, aliviar el dolor. A diferencia del vendaje tradicional, cuyo objetivo es la limitación del movimiento de los músculos, el vendaje neuromuscular no lo impide y favorece el normal proceso de curación de la lesión. Las cintas adhesivas están fabricadas con fibras de algodón, lo que permite la transpiración; además, son resistentes al agua, adhieren hasta una semana y no contienen fármacos ni sustancias químicas. Actúan con un drenaje linfático constante las 24 horas del día y pueden utilizarse para aumentar o limitar el aflujo de sangre, según la necesidad específica. Otra característica del vendaje neuromuscular es la utilización de diferentes colores según el tipo de lesión. Por ejemplo, en caso de contracturas o dolores de espalda se utiliza el color rojo, que aumenta la circulación de la sangre y el calor; el color azul se utiliza para aliviar inflamaciones, dolores e hinchazones y el color negro ayuda a la recuperación y el trofismo muscular. Kinesio taping, also known as Elastic therapeutic tape, is a technique in which elastic tapes are used to treat muscle injuries. It was invented in Japan, in the 70’s, and the first ones to use it were orthopaedics, chiropractors and acupuncturists, while nowadays it has extended to many professional and amateur athletes. The application of these elastic tapes allows the muscle injury to improve through the muscle natural movement. That way it helps reduce the swelling, improve the blood flow and, consequently, relieve the pain. Unlike traditional bandage, whose objective is the limitation of the muscle movements, the elastic therapeutic tape doesn’t prevent the muscles from moving, and it helps the injury healing process. These tapes are made with cotton fibre, which allows perspiration; moreover they are water resistant, work for up to one week and don’t contain any medication or chemicals. They work through the constant lymphatic drainage 24 hours a day and they can be used to increase or slow down the blood flow, according to specific needs. Another characteristic of the kinesio taping is the use of different colours according to the kind of injury. For example, in case of muscular contractions on the back you use the red colour, which speeds up the blood flow and the heat; the blue one is used to relieve swellings, pains or lumps; the black colour helps the muscular trophism recovery. Teiva Joyeux (Tahití) exatleta multidisciplinar en deportes acuáticos y profesional del kitesurf y windsurf, se trasladó de Tahití a Noruega hace 6 años y de ahí a Fuerteventura, atraído, como no, por el clima y las condiciones para practicar surf. Dos años después, estrena proyecto junto a Line Up: Moskova Studio Training Center. Un centro de entrenamiento de yoga, jiu jitsu y surf, tres disciplinas que van de la mano para preparar cuerpo y mente. .6

¿Cuándo y por qué decidiste venir a Fuerteventura? Conozco Fuerteventura desde hace muchos años, tengo muchos amigos que venían de la isla a Tahití y Hawái a practicar windsurf. Hace 6 años me mudé de Tahití a Noruega y el plan era venir aquí de vacaciones a ver a mis amigos y practicar mis deportes, ya que desde Europa lo tenía más cerca. Y hace dos años me di cuenta de que estaba un poco harto del frío así que me mudé directamente (risas). En Noruega era distribuidor de Moskova, una marca de ropa de entrenamiento dirigida a surf, jiu jitsu y yoga, que lo que hace además es instaurar pequeños centros de entrenamiento donde también organizar seminarios. Así que una vez aquí, me puse a trabajar con Manu Taub de Line Up y creamos este centro en Corralejo donde, a parte de funcionar con clases semanales, organizamos workshops y seminarios de jiu jitsu, yoga y preparación al surfing. ¿Cuáles son tus deportes favoritos y cuál te gusta más practicar aquí? He sido atleta multidisciplinar en deportes acuáticos y profesional en las categorías de kitesurf y windsurf. Mi patrocinador me esponsorizaba para deportes diferentes. Poco a poco me fui enfocando más en el surf y ahora es mi deporte. Aparte entreno mucho, practico yoga y cuando puedo y me apetece sigo practicando kite y windsurf. En Fuerteventura puedes hacer lo que quieras, estás a 15 minutos en coche de cualquier spot y deporte, de surf a kitesurf o windsurf en un momento. Háblanos un poco sobre tu proyecto con Line Up. El proyecto se llama Moskova Studio Training Center y está basado en el entrenamiento de diferentes disciplinas desde el jiu jitsu al yoga. Manu, de Line Up, y yo somos amigos desde hace años y siempre nos ha rondado la idea de hacer algo juntos. Como exatleta también y practicante de jiu jitsu (BBJ) y yoga, pensamos que sería fantástico crear este centro, aprovechando el respaldo de Moskova además, que nos permitiría organizar workshops y seminarios. Nuestro objetivo era acercar al público todo el conocimiento y contactos que teníamos, entre atletas y marcas, y ofrecer así clases y seminarios de alta calidad. ¿A quién va dirigido? Nos dirigimos a cualquier persona que quiera explorar estas categorías deportivas a través de la experiencia de deportistas profesionales. para llevar su entrenamiento al siguiente nivel. El centro ofrece clases semanales de yoga y jiu jitsu para todos los niveles, tanto para adultos como para niños, además de workshops y seminarios intensivos de distinta duración. También vienen muchos grupos de fuera expresamente a los seminarios, a los que también vienen locales, es maravilloso poder unir a gente de todas partes. Invitamos a toda la gente a pasarse por el centro y probar nuestras clases. ¿Cuál es la conexión entre el surf, el jiu jitsu y el yoga? Si bien es cierto que la conexión entre el yoga y el surf lleva ya muchísimos años, la relación con el jiu jitsu es más reciente. El jiu jitsu procede de Brasil, un país donde se practica mucho surf y donde poco a poco se fue.8

A través del mundo del surf se dio a conocer en Hawái y la alianza jiu jitsu-surf fue tomando fuerza. ¿Qué aspectos del jiu jitsu implementas en el surf? Al igual que pasa con el yoga, la práctica del jiu jitsu, como en otras artes marciales, es un entrenamiento físico, sí, pero también es muy mental. El jiu jitsu es un deporte muy rápido en el que debes estar concentrado y pensar correctamente en el momento y también pensar deprisa; y creo que es una preparación muy buena para el surf, al tener que tomar decisiones rápidas y acertadas en el agua, el jiu jitsu te prepara para eso. Además, es bueno porque te entrenas físicamente más allá del surfing.

Cuéntanos sobre los profesores con los que contáis para las clases semanales. Tenemos una gran suerte de contar con profesores de la talla de los nuestros. Juan José Lucas Toledo «Juanjo», de El Cotillo, es nuestro profesor de jiu jitsu para niños. Pedro, cinturón negro altamente experimentado, pertenece a la primera generación de profesores de jiu jitsu de Brasil, se encarga de BJJ para adultos. Nina Heiberg Joyeux de Noruega es la profesora de yoga que cuenta con más de 11 años de experiencia en esa disciplina y además fue profesional de Windsurf, Kiteboarding, SUP y surf. MOSKOVA STUDIO TRAINING CENTER Teiva Joyeux (Tahiti), multidisciplinary exathlete in water sports and kitesurf and windsurf professional, moved from Tahiti to Norway six years ago, and then to Fuertevenura, attracted, of course, by the weather and the conditions to practise surf. Two years later, he launched a Project with Line Up: Moskoa Studio Training Centre, a yoga, jiu jitsu and surf training centre, three disciplines aimed to prepare body and mind. When and why did you decide to come to Fuerteventura? I have known Fuerteventura for a long time, I have many friends who came from this island to Tahiti and Hawaii to practise windsurf. Six years ago, I moved from Tahiti to Norway and the aim was to come here on holidays to visit my friends and practise my sports, as being in Europe I was closer. Two years ago I realised I was a bit fed up with so much cold, so I just moved here (lol). In Norway I was a Moskova distributor, a brand of surf, jiu jitsu and yoga training clothes, which also establishes small training centres where they also hold seminars. So, once I was here, I started to work with Manu Taub, from Line Up, and we set up this centre in Corralejo where, apart from teaching weekly lessons we organize workshops and jiu jitsu and yoga seminars besides surfing training. What are your favourite sports and which one do you practise most here? I’ve been a multidisciplinary athlete of water sports and a professional in kitesurf and windsurf. I was sponsored for

different sports. Little by little I was focusing on surf and now this is my sport. Moreover, I train a lot, I practise yoga and whenever I can and I feel like it I keep practising kite and windsurf. In Fuerteventura you can do whatever you want, it’s a fifteen-minute drive to any spot and sport. Tell us a bit about your Project with Line UP. The project is called Moskova Studio Training Center, and it’s based on the training of different disciplines from jiu jitsu to yoga. Manu, from Line Up, and myself have been friends for a long time and we’ve always thought about doing something together. Also, as an ex-athlete and being jiu jitsu and yoga practitioners we thought it would be fantastic to create this centre, taking advantage of Moskova’s support, which allowed us to organize workshops and seminars. Our target is to bring our knowledge and contracts among athletes and brands closer to the public, thus offering high quality lessons and seminars. Who is targeted? We target any people wanting to explore these sport modalities through the experience of professional athletes. We wanted to offer an alternative more to the local community of top quality training in the shape of lessons or enrolling our BBJ, Yoga and Surf seminars, getting them in touch with experienced and highly qualified teachers to take their training to the next level. The centre offers weekly yoga and jiu jitsu lessons at any levels, for adults and children alike, apart from workshops and intensive seminars of different length. Many teams of visitors come here just for these seminars, which locals also join, and it’s wonderful to gather people from everywhere. We invite everybody to drop by our centre and try our lessons,

you’ll see how you will pass to the next level in each of your sports very soon... What is the connection between surf, jiu jitsu and yoga? Although the relation between yoga and surf has existed for a long time, the one with jiu jitsu is more recent. Jiu Jitsu comes from Brasil, a country where surf is highly practised and where both sports blended and complemented each other little by little. This discipline became known in Hawaii through the world of surf, and there the bond jiu jitsu-surf grew stronger. Which aspects of jiu jitsu do you implement in surf? The practice of jiu jitsu, as it happens with yoga and other martial arts, is a physical training, but it’s also very mental. Jiu jitsu is a very quick sport where you must concentrate and think correctly about the moment, and also think quickly. I believe it’s a very good training for surf, as you have to take quick and right decisions in the water; jiu jitsu prepares you for that. Moreover, it’s good because you train physically beyond surfing. Tell us about the teachers you have for your weekly lessons. We’re very lucky to have teachers of such a standing. Acua Water Park, the only water park in Fuerteventura, opened its doors to a new season last March 23rd , where colour and joy will be the protagonists once more. Just the day after its opening, the park held a great party full of surprises for the hundreds of people that turned up for this appointment one more year. One more year, when the summer is coming, the programme «Holidays in peace» starts, through which Saharan children, coming from refugee camps in Tindouf, are taken in by families from several countries during the months of July and August.

«VACACIONES EN PAZ» THE PROGRAMME «HOLIDAYS IN PEACE» STARTS Un año más, al acercarse el verano, arranca el programa «Vacaciones en Paz», a través del cual niñas y niños saharauis, procedentes de los campamentos de refugiados de Tinduf, son acogidos por familias de varios países durante los meses de julio y agosto. Los campamentos de refugiados de Tinduf se encuentran en Argelia, en pleno desierto del Sáhara. Allí instaló sus jaimas la población saharaui que logró huir de la brutal invasión que sufrió el Sahara Occidental por parte de Marruecos en 1975. En estos campamentos de refugiados hay unas 250.000 personas que sobreviven gracias a la ayuda humanitaria. Las extremas condiciones de la vida en el exilio, en un territorio completamente inhóspito, con escasez de agua y alimentos y donde las temperaturas pueden alcanzar los 50ºC, provocaron que diferentes países se sumaran a la iniciativa de acoger a niños y niñas refugiados saharauis durante los meses de verano. En España, a mediados de los años ochenta, ya eran muchas las comunidades autónomas implicadas, creándose, con la colaboración de las asociaciones de apoyo al pueblo saharaui, el programa «Vacaciones en Paz». Los principales objetivos de este programa son, entre otros: —Posibilitar que niños y niñas saharauis tengan la oportunidad de salir de los campamentos de refugiados en verano, cuando las condiciones son más duras, e integrarlos en familias de acogida. —Conseguir que las familias de acogida conozcan de primera mano el conflicto y tomen conciencia de la situación del pueblo saharaui. —Favorecer una alimentación adecuada durante los meses de acogida, puesto que en los campamentos de refugiados escasean algunos alimentos, como la fruta, lo que puede provocar desequilibrios nutricionales y falta de vitaminas y minerales. .14

—Favorecer que reciban asistencia sanitaria, ya que en los campamentos de refugiados es limitada. Durante su estancia son sometidos a revisiones médicas para comprobar su estado de salud. El Servicios Canario de Salud y algunos profesionales de la medicina privada (odontólogos y oftalmólogos) colaboran, desde hace años, con la Asociación Canaria de Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui. —Dotarles de material escolar y otros productos de primera necesidad (ropa, calzado, medicinas, etc). En la comunidad canaria, la ayuda institucional permite costear los gastos de desplazamiento de estos niños y niñas. Si bien la disminución de las ayudas hace unos años hizo que disminuyera notablemente el número de acogidos, en los últimos años se está recuperando poco a poco la situación. En Canarias, 218 saharauis pudieron beneficiarse de este proyecto en 2017. Queremos aprovechar este espacio para dar las gracias a todas las familias que han abierto sus casas y sus brazos a estos niños y niñas, dedicándoles tiempo, cariño y los cuidados necesarios. Agradecer también a todas las personas que han ofrecido, de forma altruista, diferentes actividades para que estos niños y niñas, y sus familias de acogida, disfruten de veranos aun más especiales. La Asociación Canaria de Amistad con el Pueblo Saharaui ha abierto recientemente el plazo para la inscripción de las familias interesadas en acoger este verano. These refugee camps are in Argelia, in the middle of the Sahara desert. There, those who managed to flee from the brutal invasion that suffered the Western Saharan population by Morocco in 1975 put up their tents. In these refugee camps there are about 250.000 people that survive thanks to humanitarian help. The harsh conditions of a life in exile, in a totally inhospitable land with scarce water and food and where the temperatures may reach the 50º C, made different countries join the programme to take in Saharan refugee children during the Summer months. In Spain, in the mid 80’s, they were many the autonomous communities involved in this project, creating the programme «Holidays in peace» with the collaboration of associations supporting the Saharan people. The main targets of this programme are, among others: —Offering Saharan children the chance to get out of refugee camps in Summer, when the conditions are harshest, integrating them in host families. —Making host families get first-hand knowledge of the conflict and become aware of the situation of the Saharan People. —Providing adequate food during the two months of placement, as some food is very scarce in refugee camps, like fruit, which can cause nutritional imbalance and a lack of vitamins and minerals. —Ensuring that they will receive medical assistance, as in refugee camps this is very limited. During their stay they have several medical check-ups to test their heath conditions. The Canary Islands Health Service and some professionals of Private Health Services (ophthalmologists and dentists) have collaborated, for some years, with the Canary Island Association Friends of the Saharan people. —Providing them with school material and other essential products (clothes, shoes, medicines etc) In the Canary Islands Community the Institutional support allows to pay the travel expenses. Although some years ago cutting downs on the financial support also caused a decrease in the number of refugees in the programme, little by little the situation is coming back to normal again. In 2017, in The Canary Islands, 218 Saharan children have benefited from this project. We would like to take advantage of this space to thank all the families that have opened their houses and hearts to these children, dedicating time, fondness and the necessary care. We would also like to thank all the people who have voluntarily offered different activities so that these children and their host families enjoy an even more special summer. The Canary Island Association Friends of Saharan People has recently opened the registration period for the families who are interested in hosting this Summer. PRESENTATION OF THE SINGULAR RED WINES OF LA PALMA El próximo viernes 13 de abril el Restaurante 722º de Lajares acogerá la presentación de las Bodegas Llanovid de La Palma, en el que se presentarán los vinos Llanos Negros. 6 vinos muy especiales que irán acompañados de las exquisiteces que preparan los magníficos chefs del restaurante, un maridaje perfecto en el que el vino es el protagonista. El Restaurante 722 de Lajares, en su apuesta por el producto local —tanto en sus platos como en sus vinos—, nos ofrece la posibilidad de adentrarnos en los viñedos de estas bodegas palmeras. Unas bodegas que han apostado por la tradición rescatando el estilo de los vinos canarios de hace medio siglo. Será el enólogo Carlos Lozano el encargado de ayudarnos a valorar apropiadamente los vinos del paraje de los Llanos Negros, mostrándonos el entorno del que proceden y las características especiales de producción y

cultivo. Un cultivo que no permite mecanización y en el que todos los trabajos se realizan a mano. Este esfuerzo y sacrificio humano ha dado como resultado una colección de vinos muy especial, vinos palmeros como se hacían antes, genuinos y únicos en su tipos, los vinos Llanos Negros. Para acompañar la cata de estos 6 singulares vinos, Simone Paglia y Nicolò Pippa, chefs del 722º, nos ofrecerán diferentes elaboraciones culinarias que armonizarán perfectamente con cada uno de ellos. Las plazas para asistir a este especial evento culinario son limitadas, por lo que te recomendamos que no tardes en reservar la tuya. ISRAEL FRANCO ZUBIAGA CHEF DE «EL PATIO DE LAJARES» El famoso Patio de Lajares vuelve a abrir las puertas de su restaurante con una nueva gestión y un equipo excepcional. A cargo de los fogones nos encontramos al chef vasco Israel Franco Zubiaga que apuesta por una cocina basada en la técnica y el producto. Israel estudió en la Universidad del País Vasco, primero Cocina y luego Restauración, y al acabar sus estudios fue encadenando prácticas y trabajos con grandes de la cocina como Josean Martínez Alija y Martín Berasategui. Una de sus últimas experiencias profesionales antes de llegar a Fuerteventura fue como Jefe de Partida en el Hotel Omm de Barcelona, asesorado por los conocidos hermanos Roca. Con esta experiencia entre grandes cocineros de prestigio nacional y siendo el chef de un lugar tan encantador como es El Patio de Lajares quién no quiere acercarse a degustar sus platos y disfrutar de este mágico lugar. ¿Cómo definirías tu cocina? Sabor, producto, técnica y cariño. .16

¿Qué es lo más importante de un plato? Todo en el conjunto del plato suma, pero lo más importante es, sin duda, el sabor. ¿Qué productos encontramos en tu cocina? Mi cocina se basa en productos de alta calidad, fundamentalmente frescos y locales en la medida de lo posible. ¿Cómo definirías la cocina de El Patio de Lajares? Es fruto de mi experiencia profesional a lo largo de los años. Una cocina en la que los ingredientes se integran con armonía. Hemos creado una carta con unas 24 referencias donde hay carne, pescado de la isla y elaboraciones vegetarianas. Cada dos o tres meses cambiaremos muchos de los platos de la carta para ajustarnos a los productos de temporada y para ofrecer variedad a los clientes. ¿Cuál es el plato que mejor define la cocina de el Patio? El que mejor nos define es el Cabrito deshuesado con parmentier de queso de cabra y pimientos asados. Yo recomendaría probar también el Atún con tartar y gel de tomate y judías salteadas, pero claro, como buen cocinero vasco que soy, el bacalao hay que saborearlo. Todos los días, según el producto fresco que nos va lle-

gando, ofrecemos además las recomendaciones fuera de carta. Y no podemos olvidarnos de la buena bodega que tenemos, con una gran selección de vinos europeos que hay que probar. ¿Con qué postre terminarías una cena en el Patio de Lajares? Depende un poco de los entrantes, pero seguramente me decantaría por un postre de Piña con romero, leche y helado de coco o con la Tarta de queso ahumada. El Patio de Lajares es un lugar con un encanto especial por su decoración, sus jardines, la piscina y por el cariño que Israel y su equipo le ponen a sus platos y al servicio, por ello es además el lugar idóneo para la celebración de eventos. The popular restaurant, El Patio de Lajares, opens once more with a new management and an exceptional team. In the kitchen we find Israel Franco Zubiaga, a Basque chef who is for a technique and product-based cuisine. Israel studied at the Basque Country University, first Cooking and then Catering business, and when he finished his studies he started with the training and then he started out with great chefs like Josean Martínez and Martín Berasategui. One of his last professional experiences before getting to Fuerteventura was as a Head Cook in the Hotel Omm in Barcelona, advised by the well-known Roca brothers. With this experience among great chefs of national prestige, and having become the chef of such a charming place as El Patio de Lajares, who doesn’t want to pop up and taste his dishes, enjoying this magic restaurant? How would you define your cuisine? Flavour, product, technique, fondness. What is the most important aspect of a dish? Everything counts but the most important is, no doubt, the flavour. Which products can we find in your cuisine? My cooking is based on high quality products, mainly fresh and local ones as far as possible. How would you define the meals of El Patio de Lajares? It’s the fruit of my professional experience over the years. A cooking where ingredients blend perfectly. We have created a menu with about 24 ingredients where there are local meat, fish and veggie dishes. Every two or three months we change some of them in the menu to fit in our season products and to offer variety to our customers. Which is the dish that best defines the cuisine in El Patio? The Boned kid with goat cheese and roasted pepper parmentier. I would recommend to try the Tuna tartar with tomato gel and sautéed beans as well, but as I am a good Basque chef, you can’t miss the cod either. Every day, to fit in the fresh products that we get, we also recommend some special dishes. And we can’t forget the great wines we have, with a European selection that you must taste. With which dessert would you end a dinner in El Patio de Lajares? It depends a bit on the starters you have. Surely I would mix Pineapple with rosemary, milk and coconut ice cream or Smoked cheese cake. El Patio de Lajares is a place with a special charm because of its decoration, gardens, swimming pool and the fondness that Israel and his team add to their dishes and service.
