PREFACE

It is an informal, literary white paper that represents the people's position and seeks truth and solutions to social problems. ECHOES have similar functions to government white papers. ECHOES provide feedback on ongoing issues in society, while the white paper provides solutions and implementation policies.

Music with literary criticism is ECHOES of social phenomena. Speaking of music, Cui Jian and Lo Tayu, their music has influenced generations of young people in China, and more and more people have become professional musicians because of it. ECHOES represent a cultural spirit.

The book consists of 12 songs by Cui Jian and Lo Tayu, and 12 artistic actions by performance artist Nut Brother. The rock music itself is not important, the important thing is after you hear the song, you decide what kind of person you want to be.

Born in Beijing on August 2, 1961, The name Cui Jian represents the beginning of Chinese rock and roll and is undoubtedly the "father of Chinese rock and roll".

Lo Tayu

Four days before the “photosynthesis” of China's largest private bookstore chain, Nut Brother and his companions made an installation in Shenzhen to show the whole process of a bookstore from opening to closing.

“I'm pessimistic. There seems to be no solution to prevent bookstores from disappearing.”

The opening of the bookstore is actually a performance art, as well as a 30 days festival to show the whole process of a bookstore from opening to closing. Thirty days is a short time, but it may come as no surprise to brick-and-mortar bookstores. In the age of e-reading, brick-and-mortar bookstores have gone the same way as the milk tea shops down the street. No one remembers that they ever existed.

“The first part of the project was collecting the dust from the air for 100 days. The second part was sending it to the brick factory. He first began preparing for this project in 2013, when the strong smog in Beijing started raising public concern. However, the project was postponed for two years, leading to the artist picking it up again this year in order to call more attention to air pollution.
