Digital Design - Module 01 Semester 1, 2018 Qianjun Liu Micheal Mack 869837
Week One
Reading: Zeara Polo, A. 2010. Between Ideas and Matters.
According to Zeara-Polo, the diagram does not play a representational role in the design process but provides an organisational and can have a performative quality depending on how it is deployed. Explain how Diagram is different from Signs and Symbols? (100 words Maximum)
According to Zeara-Polo, diagrams do not conduct dynamic objects, which signs, symbols, icons and indexs do. The relationship between form and content in symbols is intangible and artificial.

Week One
Precedent Analysis
1.South elevation of pavilion. 2.Plan of aluminium panels. 3.Elevation of aluminium panels 4.Elevation of thin and thick structure.
I used the evelations of the pavilions to trace out the outline of the paviion, then points on and edited the points to the right positions. And then I pull out the

Week Two
Reading: Hertzberger H. 2005. The in-between and The Habitable Space Between Things, from Lessons for Students in Architecture. Herzberger discusses how design should not be extreme in its functionality. Use your precedent study to explain how the pavilion allows for an appropriation of use. (100 words Maximum)
There is a lifted timber platform in the pavilion designed by Libskind, it is not just used as a platform to stand and walk on. It’s also used to sit on by many people.

Week Two
Isometric
Libeskind NE I sometric This isometric is shown from the north-east side of the pavilion. I’ve showed the main aluminium panels and the main structure of the building. Different sizes of beams was used to support the pavilion. The strucuture and threshold of the pavilion are both affected by the openings of the panels and the placement of the timber platform. The biggest opening of the pavilion is on the side which is closer to the gallery, which created the biggest flow of people going past.
5
Week Two Diagrams
Threshold Diagram
Circulation Diagram
Threshold is created by the openings of the panels and the lifted platform.
Circulation outside of the building is affected by the footpath, roads and the direction of the gallery. Inside of pavilion, circulation is affected by the size of the opening of the aluminium panels.
