International singing superstar and 80’s icon Jennifer Rush is set to appear for show with her all-South African band at the Durban Botanical Gardens on Sunday 1 November 2015. Her tour of Southern Africa ties in with her world tour to celebrate three decades of her mega hit ‘The Power Of Love’, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling single by a female solo artist in the history of British pop. ‘The Power Of Love’ has become a timeless classic and one of the few songs that has also held resounding success as a cover version by artists including Laura Branigan, Celine Dion and Air Supply. She is also a hugely popular artist in Germany and the rest of Europe.

“I am excited to perform to my Durban fans in a beautiful outdoor setting and promise them that it will be an unforgettable show and day of entertainment,” said Rush, who was in South Africa in June auditioning and rehearsing a local band, which will add a fresh 21st century twist to her iconic 80’s songs as well as some of the more recent material.

Clermont was a black middle income township during the apartheid days, surrounded by Westville, Kloof, New Germany and Inanda in the distance. The main road is called Clermont road and was named after Sir Clermont, a farmer in the area who sold his land. It was the only place Tourism Development in Durban where black people were able to buy property and build houses. Since the end of apartheid Clermont has become a sprawling township as people from the rural areas came to seek work opportunities in the nearby suburbs of Westville and New Germany, Pinetown and Durban. Clermont has a large Anglican, Catholic and Wesleyan community and on Sundays one can see the women of each denomination wearing their church uniforms with pride.

The Islamic Propagation Centre International (IPCI) was founded in 1957 by the Late Shaikh Ahmed Deedat.

He had dedicated more than 40 years of his life presenting Islam, mainly to non-Muslims across the world.

The shelves are jam-packed with exotic spices and blends, as well as all the trappings for authentic Indian cooking, such as dhal, linen bags of rice, beans nuts, seeds, poppadums, oils, pickles, paneer and ghee. There is nothing quite like the whiffs of cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, tumeric and black pepper when you enter this shop. Established in 1993 by ex Capetonians Joop and Wendy Mol, the ambience is warm and welcoming.

The music is strictly background to encourage conversation, while most of the noise comes from the open plan kitchen where Joop cooks all the meat, creating huge flames as he prepares his special dishes such as Joop’s Special, a centre cut of super grade fillet, stuffed with pineapple and cheddar cheese, cooked to crisp perfection, finished with button mushrooms and flambéed with brandy.

A former butcher, Joop selects, matures, cuts and prepares all the steaks while Wendy supervises the front of house, ensuring efficient, personal service.

In addition to the “steaks with a difference”, Joop’s Chicken Cacciatora, succulent chicken breasts sautéed with bacon, onion and tomato, simmered with Sage and Rosemarie, is well worth a try, as is Chicken Schnitzel, plain or topped with a zesty cheese and mushroom sauce. Oxtail Casserole in a rich brown gravy, Lamb Curry, Chicken and Prawn Curry and Veal Schnitzel are some of the other options available.
