Russell’s Window Coverings keeps providing service to count on Promotion now with new owners features Victoria, B.C., trip drawing at show By Calvin Bratt editor@lyndentribune.com
LYNDEN — Russell’s Window Coverings has been around a while, even present at the home show several times under former owner Russell McElroy. In mid-2013 there was a quiet change of ownership to Legacy Design Inc., which already does business as Legacy Kitchen and Bath of Jacquie Scott in Lynden. Russell’s became a project of Jacquie as president and Dave Hamstra as operations manager, with longtime employee Josh Nicholas continuing with his expertise. Previously, Hamstra was a general contractor and finish carpenter for many years. “There’s a large following in the community that we want to know can still count on us,” Jacquie said. “That continuity is very important to keep going.” So Russell’s will be at the 2015 Whatcom County Home and Garden Show this week with a booth and a special promotion as well. Buy $1,000 of products and be entered into a drawing for a two-night stay in Victoria, B.C., and $100 spending cash. Earn additional entries for each ad-

ditional $1,000 spent. The goal of the business is to offer a wide range of options, styles and designs to choose from — “a vast selection of window treatments perfect for just about any window imaginable,” says the website. A showroom and workshop are at 873 Hinotes Court, Suite A2, in the business park just north of Hinotes Corner at Pole and Hannegan roads. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The phone number is 656-6579. Russell’s Window Coverings offers classic horizontal blinds, timeless plantation shutters, faux wood and fully customized draperies. Brand names carried are Hunter Douglas, Comfortex, Skandia, Century and Norman. Of course, window fashion dovetails well with the cabinetry and countertops offered by Legacy Kitchen and Bath, which Jacquie operates at 1610 Grover St. in town. Dave will readily go out to a home to size up particular needs. He also does repairs of window coverings. Full fabrication is done in-house in the well-stocked shop. Many jobs come by way of contractor referrals, both of custom and spec jobs, or from Realtors working with a house in transition. But any homeowner contact is welcome. Russell’s has appreciated a job recently with Shilshole Construction in the Seattle area — helping convert a historic building into apartments, including finding the right fabrics to fit authentically — and there may be more business to come along those lines.
