Focos de Maré is a project that aims to innovate and take into account the needs and desires of the people in the Maré community in Brazil. The project is centered around what the community feels represents them and their needs. The project consists of three strategies that work together to reform the industrial area of Maré by locating, connecting, and building new constructions. The first strategy establishes four structures that follow a concept identified by the community. These buildings are places where not only the people of Maré can gather, but also collectives that work for the community can use them. The second strategy links the squares of the buildings to form a path that allows a journey from the building in the north to the one in the south, allowing for the transformation and preservation of old buildings between the blocks. Lastly, around each building, there is a radius that delimits an area that is directly influenced by the project. At the intersections between the radius, topographic parks are created to support the development of the area. The structures are towers that can be seen from far away, making them a prominent and recognizable feature of the community. Overall, Focos de Maré is a project that seeks to revitalize the Maré community by including the input and needs of the people, and creating new spaces for them to gather and connect.
