Late summer always includes one unmistakable sign that autumn is surely on its way – conference football media days! Sure enough, in the last few weeks both of our 2022 league partners held their respective press gatherings and I had the honor of attending them in person. The Pac-12 held its event in Los Angeles while the SEC’s four-day extravaganza was hosted by the wonderful College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia (what a backdrop!). Wondering how the teams are predicted to finish? You can check out the preseason media voting on page two of this newsletter but I can tell you now that we are all in for a thrilling threeplus months of college football as our bowl game awaits its first-ever matchup of the SEC and Pac-12. Did you know that before our game on December 17, only one team from the powerhouse SEC has ever played in the city of Las Vegas? That was the University of Arkansas more than two decades ago when our hometown UNLV Rebels defeated the Razorbacks in the 2000 Las Vegas Bowl held at Sam Boyd Stadium. A lot has changed around here since then and we cannot wait to host our first SEC team at Allegiant Stadium and have them matched up with the Pac-12 in a predetermined bowl matchup for the first time since 1988!

With the calendar moving to August, college preseason training camps are now fully underway, so enjoy the daily news of college football preparing to debut. Even better, things kick off early this season with 11 games slated for what is called “Week Zero” on Saturday, August 27. That day of pigskin appetizers includes some matchups from our third conference partner, the Big Ten, and will wrap up with SEC member Vanderbilt playing on the islands against Hawai’i. Yes, you read that right, there is college football THIS month! Here’s to a great August.
