anything happening in your world?
Well, no one can say it’s been a quiet summer this year – at least for the world of college football! Changes –and rumors of more changes – are happening all over the place, including so much going on with our longtime friends at the Pac-12 Conference. It would prove foolhardy, of course, to review the news in this space because more than likely more of it will have come out by the time the figurative ink is dry on the August newsletter. So, let’s focus on football for now. You know kickoff is close because both of our 2023 leagues held their respective Media Day events in the last couple of weeks. The aforementioned Pac-12 even brought its show to the Las Vegas Strip by holding court for the first time in our very own city. To nobody’s surprise, the media voted USC as the heavy favorites in the fall. The Big Ten, meanwhile, met in Indianapolis and while the league does not release an official preseason poll, an annual survey of primary media by Cleveland.com showed that Michigan (who, interestingly, hosts UNLV in Week Two) is the favorite in the East while Wisconsin was the point-leader in the West division. Indeed, the countdown is on for Week Zero action as seven games involving FBS teams are slated for Saturday, August 26, highlighted by those very same Trojans hosting San Jose State at 5 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network.
What’s the old saying? Let the games – the real ones played out on the field -- begin!

PRESEASON CONFERENCE HONORS
The BIG TEN CONFERENCE announced its 2023 football preseason honors, a 10-member preseason list with five representatives each from the East and the West Divisions, as selected by a media panel.
The East Division list highlighted by a pair of returning consensus All-Americans in Michigan’s Blake Corum and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. Corum and Harrison Jr. were joined on this year’s preseason East Division squad by Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, Wolverine quarterback J.J. McCarthy and Penn State offensive lineman Olumuyiwa Fashanu.
Four different schools placed students on the West Division preseason list, led by two representatives from Minnesota in tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford and defensive back Tyler Nubin. They were joined on the list by Illinois defensive lineman Jer’Zhan Newton, Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean and Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen.
