fter spending her younger years in the military learning teamwork, pride in service and excellence in performance, Melissa Stagers found herself married to a Naval Officer with 3 kids. Not being a stayat-home kind of mom, she went to work in the marketing side of real estate for a local company in San Diego. Upon moving to San Antonio, she took another job as the creative leader for a national auction firm which was coordinating a large scale real estate auction in San Antonio. At that time, her intention was not to make a career in real estate. After all, it was marketing where she excelled! She simply happened to be marketing for real estate firms. However, by the time the auction ended, she had caught the real estate bug. Real estate was in her blood, and she quickly earned her real estate license. Originally, she worked with a boutique company, where the camaraderie and closeness of a tight-knit group convinced her this was the way top real estate firms functioned. After 20 plus years as a successful real estate agent with a high-ranking local team, Melissa decided to branch out and grow into her own brokerage. In 2017, M. Stagers Realty Partners was born, with a strong mission, a progressive vision and an impeccable set of values.

Why Real Estate? It is ever changing, involves people and the ability to own your own business. No day is the same, really no deal is the same. Always something new to learn. Tell us what you love most about San Antonio? The people, they are friendly. You will never go to the grocery store here and someone not say, “Did you find everything you want?”, and if not, they make it happen. San Antonians' have a pleasant conversation because they want to, not because they have too. We are a diverse city that cultivates families and tourists. The weather is great. I grew up in snow and do not miss it nor cold weather at all. The sunshine is endless and my personality needs sunshine. I also love the oak trees. They are art work in their own right. Trees up north grow straight up, not very architecturally pretty.

What skill do you think helps you the most in Real Estate? The ability to really look at things and solve problems. Being a straight shooter even if it is something someone does not want to hear, but needs to hear. I also think the ability to look at the big picture and have hard conversations. Most shy away from having them. It builds trust and that is the most important item to be given. It is a gift when you are trusted.

When you and the family go out, where do you go and why? We go to our lake house at Media for fun and quiet. We have a great place with an amazing view on the water. It sleeps a lot and works well for large crowds. It offers activity and quiet time. We love the 4th there for seeing fireworks and setting some off of our own. Otherwise, our family is very much home bodies. We like hanging out at home too, so the kids can swim.

Who has been your biggest influence on your career to this point? Guy Chipman and D’Ann Harper… they were both true professionals that upheld ethics and doing business the right way. Both of them have been pioneers in the real estate industry. Running and starting a company is not an easy task. They did it well and with great integrity!

When it comes to reading, what book has had the biggest impact on your life? Slight Edge, Go-Giver and Ninja Selling, for business. Slight Edge really taught me to chill out and strive for a little every day, not everything at once. One foot in front of the other. Just keep moving forwards. I still read and improve as much as I can. Learning from others or gathering new ideas keeps up in the game and growing.

What lesson as a kid still resonates till this day? Do what is right and do it to the best of your ability even when no one else cares. My parents also taught us to work, work was not just necessary but good for the soul. Be independent and always keep learning.

If you could jump on a plane and go anywhere, where would you go and why? Somewhere that has animals, simple life, sun, fruit and stars really bright at night. The where really does not matter. I love nature and wildlife. Still have on my bucket list to do a safari.
