Pumpkin Spice Muffins Makes 18 Whether you’re first in line at a well-known coffee shop as they release their favorite fall beverage or are just a fan of the flavor, there are plenty of pumpkin options this time of year. There are recipes for almost every type of meal with this posh squash, from sweet to savory, pies to pasta, and smoothies to soups. For a true pumpkin lover it’s hard to go wrong with any of these choices, but a classic muffin with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves always seems to be a crowd-pleaser. Here’s one of my favorites!

3½ cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon salt 2 cups canned pumpkin ½ cup Crisco oil ½ cup butter 3 cups sugar 3 eggs 1 cup chopped nuts 1 cup raisins Preheat oven to 350ºF. Combine dry ingredients and spices in bowl. Mix pumpkin, oil, butter, sugar, and eggs then add them to dry ingredients and stir in nuts and raisins. This pattern even tracks consistent in prior years with Washington being third overall in investment in 2013, and in 2014 Texas regained the third position. Currently, Washington remains ahead by 51 units and nearly $90 million more.

It was inevitable that Japan would lead O’ahu investment as they have been active consumers of East O’ahu property for many years. Piggybacking on their interest in time shares and vacation rentals, the natural progression is condominium purchases with the Kaka’ako build out playing out perfectly. From 2008, foreign investment was led by the Canadians. However, with recent Kaka’ako development, Japanese investment nearly doubled Canadian investment. It is likely by year-end, the Japanese investor will be the largest foreign investor. While the Japanese ascends and Canadian money remains static, keep an eye out for the Asian Tiger of Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan as they increase their investments as well.

Kinesiology Tape â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Does It Really Work? Written by Torey Lam, Pharm.D.

Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve all seen soccer, football, and basketball players wearing colorful elastic cotton or synthetic strips known as Kinesiology tape. The tape has been in use since the 1970s. Recently the tape is gaining in popularity from leisure athletes to standard rehabilitation practice. It has been promoted for a wide range of proposed benefits, from relief of lower back pain to treatment of neurological disorders. Proponents make the claim that kinesiology tape corrects for joints misalignment, helps muscle spasms, relaxes over-used muscles, relieves abnormal muscle tension, reduces delayed onset of muscle soreness, and can modulate muscle tone. It is thought that the tape works via proprioceptive and sensorimotor feedback mechanisms. Additionally, theories suggest that lifting the skin away from the muscles with the tape increases the interstitial space thereby improving circulation and lymph flow. Muscle strength may also increase when applied in the direction from muscle origin to insertion; however, few quality studies exist to demonstrate that kinesiology tape is better than traditional elastic sports taping for musculoskeletal injuries. One meta-analysis reviewed ten studies and concluded little evidence supporting advantages of kinesiology tape over regular taping. The authors conceded a potential benefit to improved strength and range of motion in sports injuries.
