Volume 4, Issue 2 | www.LuxeLifestyleMag.com

Adam Jacot de Boinod is a British author, most famous for his works about unusual words. He has written three books, the first two (The Meaning of Tingo and Toujours Tingo) looking at words that have no equivalent in the English language, and his latest book (The Wonder of Whiffling) looking at unusual words in English. He worked on the first series of the television panel game QI. His research on the show involved him reading an entire Albanian language dictionary and noting down any words that he found interesting. He formed the idea that there are 27 different words for moustaches and 27 words for eyebrows in Albanian, including, “vetullan” (“very bushy eyebrows”), “vetullor” (“slightly arched eyebrows”) and “vetullosh” (“very thick eyebrows”). After leaving QI, he began to investigate other languages, examining 280 dictionaries and 140 websites. This led to the creation of his first book in 2005, The Meaning of Tingo, a book featuring words which have no equivalent in the English language, “tingo” being a word from the Pascuense language of Easter Island meaning, “to borrow things from a friend’s house, one by one, until there’s nothing left”. He then wrote up a follow-up book entitled Toujours Tingo in 2007. In 2009, de Boinod wrote The Wonder of Whiffling, a book about unusual words in English, the word “whiffling” having several meanings, including, “one who examined candidates for degrees… an officer who cleared the way for a procession, as well as being the name of the man with the whip in Morris dancing.”

A couture piece from the G Atelier can be years in the making and his technical mastery has gained a cult following of collectors. Rapper Jay-Z famously gifted wife, Beyoncé Knowles, the “Papillon” butterfly ring, crafted with 326 tsavorites and 342 brilliant-cut diamonds. In 2018 the iconic ring was donated to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where it remains on view with the permanent collection. Featuring original photography of the most iconic pieces in his collection, the spirit of one of the boldest and inventive names in jewelry comes alive in a luxurious and colorful volume devoted to his show-stopping works of art.

I know I am who I am today because I knew you” from the awar -winning song “For Good.” As I eluded in a previous article, my life was changing with the New Decade! After 33 years of marriage, two amazing children, a one-year old granddaughter Ella and many happy memories together, my journey to find authentic joy and happiness instead of staying in an unhealthy marriage won out.

College Graduation we were ready for the American Dream. From the outside looking in “We were the picture perfect family,” what happened? Love and Life is about growth and instead of growing together, we grew apart. I really cannot tell you the exact moment I fell out of love but I CAN tell you it took years. Blame is a two-way street and we were both imperfect people trying to live in a perfect world and grow old together. In retrospect, maybe we should have followed the 2/2/2/ rule which is: Every 2 weeks go out for dinner, every 2 months go away for the weekend and every 2 years go away for a week. Maybe we should have communicated better and maybe we should have listened better to each other but we didn’t. Over the years we both just stopped trying. I will not get into the details of our issues but I can honestly say, I tried!!! Yes, my record of 33 years is my testimony that I really tried!!!! What was my turning point? A TRAVELER’S PEACE OF MIND By Roni Fishkin

28

Volume 4, Issue 2 | www.LuxeLifestyleMag.com

Our passports may have been tucked away in a drawer, collecting a bit of dust over the last few months. But, despite the travel pause, our wanderlust is still alive and well. Many of us have spent part of our isolated days thinking about when travel will be safe again, where in the world we want to explore and how best to go about having these new and exciting experiences. But the questions of how best to travel, what will have changed and what we should do differently as we embark on these new adventures is top of mind. Here are a few ideas…call it a Travelers’ Peace of Mind.

1. POSTPONE, DON’T CANCEL Most travel companies are offering incentives to push vacation plans into the fall months or into 2021. These incentives can range from a $50 gift card to a big bonus worth an additional 50% of the cost of a trip booking. It’s in your best interest to consider these promotions as an opportunity to get an upgrade or spend an extra night or two while away. In many cases, these options are unprecedented and worth taking advantage of as we probably wont see such rich offers again any time soon.

3. PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE There are a wide variety of travel insurance policies…and, unfortunately, many people learned this the hard way during the ban on travel this year. While protecting travelers if they get sick before or during vacation, most insurance did not protect people if they simply chose to cancel. Make sure your travel adviser walks you through the complicated fine print of any policy you purchase. “Only Cancel For Any Reason” insurance is just that, but the cost of that is often an obstacle.

4.CREATE A WANDER LIST FOR YOUR WANDERLUST

Use this time to create a travel wish list…your own personal wander

list of places you want to visit. What are your priorities? Among your considerations, include your age and physical abilities when placing the order. If you have always wanted to see Macchu Picchu or hike in Patagonia – perhaps you go there sooner and leave the luxury cruise in the Med for a time when you might not want to have the physical exertion be part of your vacation plans.

2.USE A TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL According to Forbes magazine, travelers using advisers instead of cre-

“In the end we are nothing more than love and space dust” 1. COMMITMENT. Finding the right Trainer can be as important as finding the right spouse. Looking for someone that compliments you and can best communicate with you and support you so you become the best version of yourself is key to success and making the process of getting fit effective and fun. If an engagement is maybe coming soon, start meeting with Trainers so the routine and habit of working out can be well established when the time comes. 2. CARE & COMPASSION. Wedding preparation can be exciting and stressful, so having a Trainer that is also a cheerleader for you thru all of the ups and downs that the process can sometimes bring is super helpful. When details and invite lists and who is or isn’t sitting next to this family member become a reality, it is nice to have a healthy outlet to workout with someone that is fully in your corner and help keep things in perspective. Great Trainers see the big picture, so having that relationship is not only great for physical health & fitness; but mental health & fitness too! 3. CONSISTENCY. Weddings can bring lots of additional appointments, more decisions that need to be made when compared to the average day, and unanticipated problem solving. When those things come up, it can be easy to blow off working out. Having a Trainer is a great solution to keep you accountable to your goals and commitment to meet them. 4. CHALLENGES. Because life is full of challenges; those sometimes difficult problems that need to be overcome. Sometimes those conundrums are as simple as “How am I ever going to get this piece

of lace to stay upright?!” (According to FT Trainer Chavanne, the answer to this is Aquanet. She says it will hold anything in place and not discolor the lace.) Then there are the intense challenges like “I want both of these family members at the wedding but they haven’t spoken in nearly 15 years…” And then there are the challenges that Trainers would say are good kind of challenges to have such as “I’ve leaned out another 2.5 inches since having my dress fitting. What if it’s too big?!” Last but not least, there are the challenges that show up in Life that no one could have ever anticipated…the Coronavirus outbreak. FT Trainer Chavanne told us that 2 of the brides she is currently work with have had the wedding venues cancel the ceremonies and receptions due to the covid-19 virus. While there is clear understanding of why the venues cannot host these weddings, there is also very intense emotion that the brides and grooms go thru as they process the reality they face. “I feel the emotion with them, says Chavanne. I am married and my wedding day was one of the most joyous occasions of life with my husband and family and friends there, so I totally get what a blow that can be. It is the first really big Life Challenge many couples face together. It is an opportunity for couples to come together in a more powerful way than before to work together to figure out a solution so the challenge is overcome in a way that creates a positive outcome for everyone involved. These types of unprecedented events give couples a different line of sight too. The question I encourage our clients is “Are you focusing on creating a great marriage and life together as much as creating a great wedding day?” As one of my favorite poems by David Jones reads, “In the end, we’re all just Love and space dust.” May your Life & Love be enhanced by the joy that good health & fitness brings!

Because of improved insulation of homes built in recent years, people are exposed to more indoor air pollution. We are totally confident in our ability to build a robust structure of this size and description, and we have done so in the past as is evidenced in yachts like 42.5m Adastra”, said James Kinloch, Sales & Marketing Director at McConaghy. The BlackCat 30 has the same beautiful lines as the larger models and it features a spectacular interior design by m2atelier. The result of research using thin strips of nappa leather in place of fabric yarns which are woven together and interlaced replicating the traditional method of weaving cloth to obtain a real ‘fabric’ from leather. Whatever your reasoning for a small, intimate wedding, these types of celebrations come with a wide range of benefits. Here’s a look at some of

Welcome Reception: On the first day of a multi-day celebration, it’s typically an arrival day where your guests are able to get settled and then come together for cocktails and a nice dinner in the evening. Try going truly nomadic and wake up at a different island each morning. Let time wander, especially at Villingili, where they even move their clocks forward an hour to offer more daylight. Much, I discovered, is actively done to promote the ultimate “two-in-the-world” feeling. The lengths top hotels now go to make things special is impressive. The service on hand is truly telepathic. Maldivian cuisine is based on coconuts, starches and fish of which the favourite is skipjack tuna. Niyama’s Edge is a restaurant on stilts far out to sea accessible only by boat while at the Lighthouse at Baros Maldives you get to dine with schools of fish swimming beneath. At Conrad Rangali Island there’s a 6,000 bottle underground wine cellar while Niyama’s Nest has dining pods high in banyan treetops. Privacy guaranteed. For similar seclusion Shangri-La Villingili certainly creates the ultimate ‘two-in-the-world’ feeling. Expert chefs have a bespoke “Dine by Design” service offering lunch on the equator aboard a luxury yacht or dinner in the jungle by torchlight. Mind you, there’s always room service or, as at Gili Lankanfushi, private screenings of old favourites in the jungle cinema with chocolate, strawberries and champagne! “Adventure is worthwhile”, said the famous fable writer Aesop and after a few days adjusting it may well be time to be active and explore. While the Maldives has long been branded a ‘fly and flop’ destination, in reality it’s difficult to choose from the spoiling list of options. Go underwater in a whale submarine, see the outer atolls from a ‘Seaplane Surfari’ or climb aboard ‘Voavah Summer’ the Four Seasons luxury yacht. There’s good surfing at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa, the new Kandima, Dhaalu Atoll is long enough to hire bikes and electric scooters to get around and at Four Seasons, you can even try ‘seabobs’, the underwater variety of scooters. Jumeirah Vittaveli is now pioneering with an ice rink to transport you, blessed by the warmth of the tropics, into a winter wonderland.

Huvafen Fushi has a great house reef acting as a natural aquarium and coral garden and where marine biologists offer guided snorkel trips. Go night-diving at Constance Moofushi or await the ‘Manta-on-Call’ alert at Four Seasons to be whisked off by speedboat for when the rays appear. At COMO Cocoa Island you can ‘island hop’ or spot dolphins while at JA Manafaru you can even hit golf balls (made of fish food) into the sea! If all that seems too active, retreat to the spa. At the new Kanuhura Kokaa Spa there’s a therapy focused on releasing energy from 103 pressure points on your body. Niyama’s Drift is out at sea with ‘over-water’ rooms looking out across the ocean while at the world’s only underwater spa at Huvafen Fushi you can see fish swimming past you as you unwind. Bliss by Shakespearean proportions! Adam Jacot de Boinod worked on the first series of the BBC panel game QI for Stephen Fry. He is a British author having written three books about unusual words with Penguin Press. The best time of year to visit the Maldives is between November and April. Avoid the tropical cyclones from August to October though the temperature all year round is about 30°C (86F). To learn more about

HISTORY OF THE SPANISH RIDING SCHOOL

The Spanish Riding School has its origins in 1565 near the Hofburg Palace. The original site was to be a residence for Ferdinand I, but it was soon converted to stables for the Habsburg body horses from 1565 to 1569. The Archduke Charles II of Inner Austria is responsible for founding the stud near Lipica in 1580. Spanish horses were imported to breed with local horses to produce the best horses for classical riding. The horses produced from this breeding are what we now know as Lippizaners. Emperor Leopold I had a riding school built in 1681 on Tumblplatz.

Lipizzaners are born black, but become white when they reach six years. When not in training, the horses spend their time at the stud in Piber. Only the best stallions are taken to the Spanish Riding School for classical training. The stallions are trained at the Heldenberg Training Center and Vienna when they are only four years old. This initial training is very similar to basic training for all horses. The stallions are first trained to be obedient and calm, and to take directions willingly from their trainers and handlers. Once that stallion masters this training, he moves on to the next level.

PINEHURST RESORT If you want to make it through all seven of the open courses at Pinehurt, you'll need to book more than a few days (there are nine total courses at the resort). The different courses have been used by professionals, and the No. 2 course served as the site for the 2014 U.S. Open. A new course was recently renovated and updated within the last few years, as well. And even if you want to take a break from golf and just sit back and relax in the sun as you watch the sun set from the clubhouse porch, you're more than welcome to do that as well. HILTON HEAD ISLAND There are a number of public golf courses throughout greater Hilton Head. This is perfect for when you don’t want to just play the same course over the weekend but instead would like to play a number of courses. Hilton Head makes it easy on you for this (Sea Pines Resort is one of the beautiful resort offerings in the city). Plus, if you want to travel south to Savannah for a brief visit you can do that as well. After all, if you’re flying in you’ll be landing in the same Hilton Head/Savannah airport. Whatever you decide to do, keep Hilton Head in mind, as it is a city essentially built for outdoor golf lovers such as yourself.

SAWGRASS SPLASH

There’s nothing more satisfying than a screwdriver cocktail on a sunny afternoon. The Sawgrass Splash is the official cocktail of THE PLAYERS Championship…. and for good reason! It’s cold, refreshing and gets a little extra zip from GREY GOOSE® L’Orange Vodka. The Sawgrass Splash takes everything you love about a classic Screwdriver cocktail… then adds a splash of lemonade and a squeeze of lime. The trifecta of citrus is quite rejuvenating, designed to quench your thirst while out and about on a sunny golf course. It’s a great option for brunch as well, so I’ll be making this again for sure. The Sawgrass Splash is the official cocktail of THE PLAYERS Championship. Slice of Jess: THE PLAYERS Championship Serves: 1

INGREDIENTS: • 1.5 oz. Grey Goose L’Orange Vodka • 2 oz. Fresh Orange Juice • 2 oz. Fresh Lemonade • Squeeze of Fresh Lime

DIRECTIONS: 1. Pour all ingredients over ice and serve in a bucket glass. Garnish with a fresh orange slice and enjoy immediately! NOTES ON THIS RECIPE: • For best taste, always use freshly squeezed orange juice. • Pink lemonade also tastes pretty awesome in this recipe.Want to give it some bubbles? Add a splash of champagne! • Always serve super-duper cold. Once you’ve squeezed your orange juice, place it in the refrigerator for a few hours to chill.

HOW TO MAKE

AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS

These Air Fryer Chicken Wings are amazingly crispy on the outside,

juicy in the center. Simply serve with celery, carrots and your dipping sauce of choice!

CRISPY AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS STEP 1: There are a couple of secrets when it comes to air frying extra crunchy chicken wings. First, make sure to pat each wing dry with a paper towel. Next, lightly dust the wings with a coating of baking powder, salt and pepper. Is the baking powder absolutely necessary? Well, no. But after testing the wings with and without… I prefer them with.

CRISPY AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS STEP 2: Next you’ll place them in a single layer on both trays. Each tray holds around one-pound of wings. So depending on how many you are prepping, you may need to cook the wings in multiple batches. There’s no need to preheat the Vortex in advance, simply add the wings, crank it up to 380F and set the timer for 25 minutes.

CRISPY AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS STEP 3: While those bad boys are cooking, go ahead and decide what kind of sauce you’d like to serve them with. I had some extra parmesan on hand… so I thought I’d make a spicy, garlic-y, buttery sauce for half the wings. First I melted a stick of Minerva Dairy’s garlic butter in a small pot with 1 chopped jalapeño and 2 cloves of minced garlic. If you haven’t tried their butters yet, I definitely recommend that you should! If you’re using regular butter (and still want the extra garlic-y goodness), go ahead and add a couple more cloves of minced garlic to the pan. Bring the butter to a light simmer and then turn off the heat. When the wings are ready, toss half in the spicy butter sauce and mix them together with fresh parmesan. BOOM, so good. Toss the other half with buffalo sauce and serve with freshly chopped green onions and jalapeños as a topping. Celery, carrots and a dipping sauce are never a bad idea either.
