Sir Rod Stewart’s Newest Whisky Wolfie’s

Crosses The Pond To Land In The U.S.

DESIGNED TO REFLECT ROD'S ROCK 'N' ROLL HERITAGE WITH SUBTLE NODS TO AMERICANA, WOLFIE'S WAS INSPIRED BY THE LEGENDARY MUSICIAN'S EARLY HELL-RAISING DAYS WITH THE FACES AND IS LAUNCHING IN STEP WITH HIS CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NORTH AMERICAN TOUR.

Distilled on the banks of Loch Lomond by an expert team with decades of whisky-making know-how, Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky is a 40% ABV blended Scotch which perfectly marries grain whisky and malt whiskies, resulting in a lightly peated, smooth final blend. Wonderfully balanced with flavors of warming cinnamon, fresh vanilla, and baked apple, it has delicate notes of sweet pea and pears in syrup before finishing with candied citrus peels and a gentle oak spice.

“Wolfie’s has been a triumph across the UK and Europe and following the path of my early career, our goal is to take Wolfie’s across the pond and introduce this fine tipple to my fans in the US,” said Rod Stewart. “Fine tuned, it’s perfect over ice or mixed into a favourite cocktail. I’m looking forward to taking Wolfie’s on tour across the States this year. Come join me and let’s share a drink.”

Handcrafted in small batches using a three-step process of preparation, distillation, and maturation, Wolfie’s is distilled from malted barley, used to produce malt whisky; and unmalted cereals (wheat for Wolfie’s), used to produce the grain whisky. Each undergoes separate, age-old processes to finely turn the sugars into alcohol – adding bold and unique flavors along the way. After fermentation – for single malt scotch whisky – the wash is distilled twice in large copper stills. This adds a distinct boldness and intensifies the flavors. For grain whisky, distillation takes place in continuous column stills, made of stainless steel with

elements.

Referencing the opening track from Rod’s 1991 album Vagabond Heart, the lyrics ‘Rhythm of My Heart’ are emblazoned on the base of the bottle. Rod’s recording of the song was a nod to his own Scottish heritage having adapted the melody from the traditional folk song, Loch Lomond.

Rolls-Royce Unveils La Rose Noire:

THE FIRST OF FOUR UNIQUE ROLLS-ROYCE DROPTAIL COMMISSIONS, NAMED

‘LA ROSE NOIRE.’ INSPIRED BY ROMANCE

AND THE ALLURE OF THE BLACK BACCARA ROSE

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is privileged to present RollsRoyce La Rose Noire Droptail, a dark, daring, and dramatic coachbuilt masterpiece. This extraordinary motor car, presented to the clients who commissioned it at a private event symbolizes the distillation of experiences, significant moments, and objets d’art cherished by its owners – an international family that exemplifies connoisseurship and luxury of the very highest order. Indeed, Coachbuild designers described the family’s talent for sensitive and informed curation in their homes and within their notable collection of motor cars and fashion icons as an art form unto itself.

24 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is inspired by the allure of the Black Baccara rose, an intense, velvet-like flower that originates in France and is beloved by the mother of the commissioning family. The dark pomegranate color of its petals appears almost black in shade, but in direct light, a red, pearlescent shimmer is revealed on the dark surface. These two colors form the primary palette of La Rose Noire Droptail. The first red shade is named ‘True Love’ in recognition of the romance the client wished to capture in this commission. The darker tone is named ‘Mystery,’ inspired by the mysterious nature of the rose, which appears to change color when viewed from different angles. Indeed, it was the essence of true love and the mystery of exploration and travel that captivated the clients throughout the commissioning process.

The exterior coachwork is finished in the lustrous and complex True Love red. As the Black Baccara rose, the motor car also appears to change color depending on the point it is examined from. To achieve this rich variation, surface finish specialists developed a completely new paint process, which was perfected over 150 careful iterations. A base coat, the color of which is a closely guarded secret, was followed by five layers of clear lacquer, each blended with a slightly different tone of red.

The duotone theme extends into La Rose Noire Droptail’s brightwork. The dark finish, named Hydroshade due to its liquid quality, was developed specifically for this project. These pieces are not painted; rather, a specific chrome electrolyte is introduced in the chrome plating process and co-deposited on each stainless-steel substrate in a layer just one micron thick – roughly the same width as a strand of spider-web silk. This dark but reflective finish is continued on select metal details throughout the interior, each of which have been precision-polished by hand to achieve a high-gloss finish.

A removable hard top has been designed to give Droptail two distinct characters: without its roof, Droptail is a lithe, opentop roadster; with the roof installed, it becomes a formidable and dramatic coupé. Exclusively for La Rose Noire, the roof is uniquely low-slung, which is further exaggerated with a faster and longer rake to underpin its assertive, glamourous character.

Behind it, an ingot with the motor car’s name is included – a first for Rolls-Royce. The completely bespoke roof also features an electrochromic glass section, which instantly transitions to a near-translucent shade at the touch of a button, inviting patrons to explore the world above.

26 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

“Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is a love story, thoughtfully captured and stunningly projected onto the canvas of a RollsRoyce motor car. It is an expression of the deep and passionate partnership between a husband and wife who are the heads of a prominent international family – to be part of their remarkable story is a privilege. Furthermore, La Rose Noire Droptail stands as a testament to our brand’s relentless pursuit of perfection, where artistry and the vision of a single client truly harmonise. In every detail of this historic commission, there are echoes of both Rolls-Royce’s rich heritage and the commissioning clients’ character, from its captivating yet formidable form to its flawless and elegant romantic gestures. La Rose Noire Droptail, like the remarkable clients who dared to make such a potent and contemporary statement, will be written into Rolls-Royce history forever.”

On The Horizon

WITH ITS RECENT GROUNDBREAKING, ALBA PALM BEACH WILL BRING OPULENT LIVING, UNRIVALED AMENITIES, AND 55 BOUTIQUE RESIDENCES TO THE COVETED NORTHWOOD WATERFRONT.

It’s not often that a prime location simultaneously offers itself as a quiet respite.

Enter: Alba Palm Beach, the pinnacle of versatility. Centered in one of the most sought-after West Palm Beach destinations with fine dining, shopping, boating, and beaches, the residential enclave will serve as a haven above the bustling activity below. BGI Companies, in partnership with Blue Road Group, is set to present bespoke abodes with organic design, unobstructed waterfront views, and more than 25,000 square feet of total amenity space—by 2025.

“There were so many points of inspiration for Alba Palm Beach, but the foundation is its rare piece of land,” Principal Developer of Alba Balm Beach Kenneth Baboun says. “It’s the only new development directly on the water in West Palm Beach,

so we wanted to incorporate that into our residence design, exterior architecture, and amenities.”

Baboun and his team are working closely with Spina O’Rourke + Partners, a full-service architectural and interior design team based in West Palm Beach. The firm is very much aligned with BGI Companies and Blue Road Group’s vision to complement the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

“You’ll see the exterior of the building has a free-form design that’s curved and open-air, blending into the landscape,” Baboun says. “The unique waterfront location also inspired the lifestyle we want to give our residents, from a sunrise and sunset pool deck to making sure we have a day dock for owners’ boats, which is rare, and expansive waterfront views from virtually every point.”

www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com 29

Paying homage to its Sunshine State locale, Alba Palm Beach will feature a sun-centric design with floor-to-ceiling hurricane-impact windows and sliding doors, glass-framed terraces with summer kitchens, and panoramic water views from the Technogym® fitness room. Also in the works are a state-of-the-art conference room, various private workspaces, a multi-sport simulator room and theater, and a private dining room with climate-controlled wine storage.

The development will also include a limited collection of four, unique two-and three-story townhomes, with serene views of the Intracoastal Waterway and private plunge pools. Select units will also include private elevators, vestibules, and spa-like baths with designer fixtures and finishes.

“Beyond the amenities, we’re gifting buyers a one-year membership to the coveted Palm Beach Yacht Club to really create the quintessential Florida lifestyle,” Baboun says. “This allows access to the prestigious club’s dining room and exceptional hospitality, along with access to its global reciprocal clubs. Recently, Alba and Magellan Jets announced a partnership that gives owners access to exclusive usage and perks with its fleet of jets.”

Given recent restaurateur expansions, new office developments, and the relocation of numerous financial institutions, it’s clear that West Palm Beach is a hotspot for progress. Baboun says the groundbreaking is a major step for the area’s overall growth—with Alba Palm Beach set to offer a blend of proximity and seclusion, waterfront access, and upscale amenities at a price point starting at $3 million.

30 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

“The groundbreaking was especially exciting because our vision started almost three years ago and has spurred other notable projects to follow in the neighborhood, truly being a catalyst for the condo market we see today,” Baboun says. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of so many city officials like Cathleen Ward, District 1 Commissioner, and Mayor Keith James. It wasn’t only an exciting moment for myself but for West Palm Beach as a community.”

What’s Now and What’s Next?

The Aesthetic Society, a leading authority in aesthetic surgery, has released its annual report revealing an astonishing 23% surge in nonsurgical treatments in 2022. With over a decade of experience as a medical aesthetics provider, I’ve witnessed the fluctuations in products and procedures in the market. In recent years, a noticeable shift has occurred among my patients towards procedures that harness the rejuvenating potential of nature, yielding subtle yet stunning natural outcomes.

One powerful tool in our arsenal against aging is Sculptra®, a non-surgical injectable treatment composed of poly-L lactic acid. Its distinct ability to stimulate collagen production has significantly contributed to its popularity. In contrast to traditional dermal fillers with immediate results, Sculptra triggers the innate generation of collagen, effectively addressing facial volume loss and signs of aging.

Achieved through 3-4 sessions spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart, these gradual improvements can last up to 2 years.

The FDA recently expanded Sculptra’s applications to include skin quality enhancement alongside its existing indications. Collagen’s role in skin elasticity and firmness makes the rejuvenation facilitated by Sculptra yield a youthful plumpness and radiant glow. The gradual collagen and volume restoration process ensures enhancements occur without sudden changes in appearance.

As with most aesthetic procedures, success lies in the hands of an experienced practitioner. My approach to Sculptra slightly deviates from that of other injectables. I tailor the treatment to individual needs, enhancing distinctive features synergistically. A skilled injector ensures the maximization of Sculptra’s collagen-stimulating benefits while minimizing potential complications.

38 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com
A TRENDING TREATMENT AND ANTICIPATED LAUNCH IN MEDICAL AESTHETICS
EXPLORING

WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON?

Exciting advancements are expected, particularly in regenerative aesthetics. Enter skin boosters, which have gained popularity, especially in Europe and Canada, for their ability to rejuvenate and invigorate the skin. The first FDA-approved skin booster in the United States is set to launch this fall. Also known as microinjections or mesotherapy, skin boosters are non-surgical injectable treatments primarily composed of hyaluronic acid. Diverging from traditional dermal fillers, skin boosters focus on delivering hydration, nutrients, and essential compounds directly into the skin to stimulate collagen production.

Skin boosters appeal to younger patients as a preventative measure and a means of maintaining a youthful, smooth skin appearance, while older patients are particularly drawn to the hydrating impact. Skin boosters are a standalone treatment or can work synergistically with other anti-aging treatments depending on the patient’s goals. A recent research article published this year by Shen et al. found clinical evidence for the use of skin boosters in conjunction with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment. The study revealed that patients treated with a combination of PRP and skin boosters expressed satisfaction with their overall appearance, specifically noting improvements in facial skin indicators such as wrinkles and coarse pores. Further studies are needed to fully evaluate the potential of combining skin boosters with other aesthetic treatments.

Like Sculptra, skin boosters have minimal downtime. While Sculptra’s results take months to manifest, skin boosters provide immediate effects. Both target collagen production but with distinct objectives. Skin boosters improve texture and radiance, addressing fine lines and dullness without delay. Sculptra suits those with volume loss, deep wrinkles, and sagging skin, accepting gradual results.

With the demand for minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, Sculptra® continues to leave its mark, and skin boosters hold the promise of becoming another potent tool in the realm of medical aesthetics. With a strong emphasis on skin quality enhancement and natural appearances, the aesthetics industry remains committed to innovation, shining more radiantly than ever before.

Conversation

with Natasha Silver Bell: Healing and Nature

NATASHA SILVER BELL IS THE FOUNDER AND CEO OF SILVERBELL, A RECOVERY AND MENTAL WELLNESS COMPANY PROVIDING PRIVATE CONCIERGE CARE, RECOVERY COACHING, IMMERSIVE COMPANIONS, AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF DISCRETION AND INTEGRITY TO CLIENTS WORLDWIDE.

I’ve always been most at ease in the natural world. Teenage summers were spent riding bareback, sometimes even barefoot, across our family’s historic Pioneer Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana, a working ranch homesteaded by our ancestors generations ago in 1862 and still in our family to this day. Early morning before sunrise is a special time spent in quiet contemplation before allowing the sun’s healing energy to warm and inspire me.

As I move forward in my life’s journey, the power of human connection feels just as potent. The relationships we

nurture with others can be as healing and transformative as time spent in nature. Combine the two, and something magical happens: when we ground ourselves in the transcendent energy of the land, we can share that energy with others. We connect to the land, and the land connects us to each other. That’s how I came to be here on the stunning grounds of The Falcon at Castle Ashby in the breathtaking Northamptonshire countryside. Tracy, Lady Northampton and I have invited experts worldwide to join us for a specially curated curriculum at East Meets West, an exclusive week-long wellness and mental health retreat.

42 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

With a Master’s in Integrative Psychotherapy and Humanistic Counselling and over thirty years of experience in mental health as a Clinical Supervisor and Training Therapist, Tracy, Lady Northampton understands the importance of fostering deep connections. When she suggested Castle Ashby, the ancestral home of her husband Lord Northampton, the 7th Marquess of Northampton, as the perfect setting for East Meets West, she couldn’t have been more right.

Castle Ashby is known for its energy vortexes, which mysteriously twist the trees dotting its green hills. What better setting to immerse oneself in the wisdom and wonder of heart, mind, and body from best-in-class practitioners and leaders in Trauma-Informed Healing, Somatic Movement, Pain Management, Polyvagal Theory, and Mental Wellness and Health such as Deb Dana, Dr. Wayne and Laura Kampers, Dr. Gauri Seth, Lou Lebentz, Maria Kratsios, Dr. Abilash Mallikarjun, Guru Dharam, Josh Dickson, Helen Jane Ridgeway, Ester Cohen and more.

Here on this sacred land (boasting possibly the oldest weeping willow in the UK), I feel the earth itself begging me to drop in and let go of everything I think I know. When I’m fully present and connected energetically, I’m able to listen to my body. I become open and available to what is offered: the beauty and brilliance of other people, the peace and grace this land asks of me.

I tune into the words of Polyvagal Theory Institute co-founder and author Deb Dana. Deb is a master at translating the complex

science behind Polyvagal Theory into easily digestible practices and concepts. Deb and Stephen Porges, Ph.D created the Polyvagal map to chart how the Ventral Vagal (social engagement, safety, and connection), Sympathetic (fight or flight), and Dorsal Vagal (shut down or freeze) nervous systems help us self-regulate. Before Deb and Dr. Porges, no one had translated the three areas of the nervous system into feelings by documenting their distinct emotional states.

Thanks to Deb’s work, we know how to shift an agitated nervous system toward connection and safety, with what Deb describes as “glimmers” acting as feel-good signposts along the way. Somatic movement, emotional touchstones, breathwork, and visualization are some of the ways we can partner with our nervous systems to create rich, meaningful, co-regulated lives empowered by healthy relationships with ourselves and others. Many of us already incorporate practices like these in our daily lives.

When we feel safe, others do, too. Deb calls the active, ongoing use of regulated energy in service of healing beaming benevolence This is what Polyvagal Theory is all about, why it’s known as the science of feeling safe. Now, among the ancient trees of Castle Ashby and the open hearts and bright minds of East Meets West, Deb catches my eye and smiles, her eyes twinkling. Together, we beam benevolence to one another, to everyone in this room, to friends, family, and strangers, out into the world and beyond.

Kinga Lampert: A Philanthropic Journey Towards Breast Cancer Research

Within the world of philanthropy and cancer research, there are inspiring stories that resonate deeply. The story of Kinga Lampert, a breast cancer survivor turned dedicated advocate, is one such tale. In this article, we delve into her personal journey, her deep involvement with breast cancer research, and her role within the organization that has become her platform for change.

Often, individuals become champions of a cause or organization due to personal experiences or moments of inspiration. For Kinga Lampert, it was both. She faced a breast cancer diagnosis at the young age of 31, with her children still in their infancy. After enduring the trials of treatment and recovery, it became clear to her that she had a natural calling to be part of the fight against breast cancer.

44 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

Kinga's journey led her to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), an organization founded by her close friend, Evelyn Lauder. It was Evelyn's relentless commitment to eliminating breast cancer through research that inspired Kinga. When she was invited to join the Board of Directors of BCRF, she felt deeply honored. Today, she proudly carries the torch forward as the Co-Chair of the Board.

What sets BCRF apart in the world of breast cancer organizations is its laser-sharp focus on research. The organization's dedication to this mission is unwavering. BCRF funds some of the brightest minds in the scientific community, and its researchers have been at the forefront of every major breast cancer breakthrough, from prevention to treatment. As the highest-rated breast cancer organization in the United States, BCRF is making a tangible impact, reshaping the course of the disease.

The impact of BCRF on the fight against breast cancer cannot be overstated. As the largest private funder of breast cancer research worldwide, they have allocated substantial funding to support over 250 researchers across 14 countries in a single year, totaling $63.1 million. Over the past three decades, breast cancer deaths have declined by an impressive 43%, a testament to the power of research in saving lives. However, the fight is far from over, and the imperative to fund research remains paramount.

In addition to funding research, BCRF has played a pivotal role in raising awareness about breast health. Few may be aware that Evelyn Lauder co-created the iconic pink ribbon, a symbol that transformed the way society perceives breast cancer. Today, the world is not just aware of the disease but is focused on finding a cure, a goal that hinges on research advancements. While significant progress has been made, there is still critical work to be done, particularly in understanding and combatting metastatic breast cancer. Metastasis, the process where cancer cells spread to other parts of the body, is responsible for most breast cancer-related deaths. BCRF's substantial support for metastatic breast cancer research holds the promise of changing the future.

For Kinga Lampert, her involvement with BCRF is deeply fulfilling. Connecting with newly diagnosed women and witnessing the evolution of breast cancer treatments, with fewer side effects and better outcomes, underscores the progress made over the years. The sense of making a real difference in people's lives is a driving force.

Fundraising events play a pivotal role in sustaining breast cancer research. Despite remarkable progress, the path to a

cure relies on continued funding. Kinga actively participates in fundraising efforts, recognizing that every contribution brings us closer to a world where breast cancer is no longer a threat.

BCRF hosts numerous events throughout the year, but a couple of New York City's flagship events hold special significance for Kinga. These events, a gala in the spring and a luncheon during breast cancer awareness month in October, serve as platforms for researchers to share their insights. These gatherings provide opportunities to educate, connect with donors, and garner support. Most recently, in May 2023, Kinga had the immense joy of having been the honoree at the BCRF Hot Pink Party in NY, where she was presented with the inaugural Evelyn H. Lauder Spirit of Philanthropy Award. The event raised a record-breaking $10.4 million and was a huge highlight for her personally! Elizabeth Hurley, global ambassador of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign, was the evening’s host, with an unforgettable concert by the legendary Diana Ross!

Looking ahead, BCRF has its annual Symposium & Awards Luncheon scheduled for October 20, 2023, at the New York Hilton Midtown. The organization continues to recognize individuals and researchers dedicated to breast cancer research For those interested in learning more about BCRF and supporting their cause, the official website is www.bcrf.org.

When asked about advice for those interested in becoming philanthropists, Kinga emphasizes engagement. The level of satisfaction derived from philanthropic involvement is directly linked to one's level of engagement. Taking a deeper interest, such as serving on a board, is encouraged. Philanthropy should be approached with the same diligence as a business investment—research where the funds go and select organizations aligned with your beliefs and goals.

Kinga Lampert's journey is a testament to the profound impact an individual can have when they dedicate themselves to a cause. Her commitment to breast cancer research, unwavering passion, and active involvement serve as an inspiration to all those who seek to make a meaningful difference in the world through philanthropy and dedicated action.

In the battle against breast cancer, individuals like Kinga Lampert and organizations like BCRF are leading the way. Their dedication, passion, and relentless support for research continue to make strides in transforming breast cancer from a dreaded diagnosis to a treatable and, ultimately, curable condition.

Kinga's story serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the power of dedication to drive positive change in the world.

Peptides & Prevention

THE PALM BEACH GARDENS POWERHOUSE CLINIC, HELMED BY KEN WINNARD, M.D., OFFERS A TARGETED APPROACH TO SLOWING THE CLOCK.

Aging may be an inherent aspect of life's journey, but OneLife Health & Performance is determined to redefine it as a phase marked by vitality and enhanced aesthetics. Within the clinic's array of health services, peptide therapy shines as a highly coveted option due to its safe and customizable nature. Dr. Winnard, CEO and Chief Medical Officer, begins the process by reviewing a patient’s candidacy before examining their health, discussing long-term goals, and creating the most effective treatment plan. At OneLife, patients are provided with a one-stop-shop for creating full-body restoration—and a more fulfilling life where progress in health, diet, and lifestyle is possible.

PEPTIDE THERAPY FAQS

WHAT ARE PEPTIDES & THEIR BENEFITS?

Peptides are naturally occurring molecules present in all living organisms. Within the human body, peptides are found in every cell and tissue and play pivotal roles in sustaining health and equilibrium. Through their natural ability to signal cellular functions, the benefits of peptides are vast. They are often implemented to improve low energy, assist with some mood disorders, and reduce body fat, but they can also tackle wrinkles, increase muscle mass, and strengthen the immune system. Some OneLife patients experience better sleep quality, more effective workouts, and improved hormone regulation—although it is important to note that results vary from patient to patient.

HOW DOES PEPTIDE THERAPY WORK?

Peptide therapy is typically administered through subcutaneous injections, but it can also be given orally or topically, depending on the specific peptide and treatment goals. At OneLife, there is a specific set of peptides utilized to achieve optimal results. Dr. Winnard and his team create a tailored plan and identify the peptides that are the best fit for each unique patient:

• Semaglutide (commercially Wegovy or Ozempic)

• Tirzepatide (commercially Mounjaro)

• MOTS-

• AOD 9604

• CJC 1295 / Ipamorelin

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED PEPTIDE THERAPY TREATMENTS & HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

Both the frequency of treatments and the longevity of results are dependent on an individual’s customized plan and health goals. OneLife makes the process collaborative, ensuring patients are comfortable with the plan and procedure and their goals are being met from start to finish. Dr. Winnard and his team are happy to answer any questions or concerns and enjoy helping each patient look and feel their best. www.onelifehealthandperformance.com

Known for its stunning waterfalls, winding rivers, and sweeping vistas, the town of Highlands is perhaps one of North Carolina’s greatest gems. The mountain respite, nestled among the pines, is filled with lush greens, dreamy blues, and warm, nutty tones—a palette that is as timeless as its surroundings. For Jamie Elliott McPherson, owner and principal designer at J. Elliott Style, the mountainous backdrop served as the ultimate muse for his latest design undertaking.

“My favorite element was the view, without a doubt,” McPherson says. “When we first visited the property, I saw a ton of potential for a renovation, but the view took my breath away. It's something that can't be improved upon or replicated.”

With an unwavering commitment to his clients and the authenticity of their homes, McPherson’s design ethos centers around collaboration. His goal is to foster a partnership, providing direction and encouraging new ideas, but always allowing his clients to make the decisions best suited to their unique lifestyles. As for his trademark color scheme? McPherson has a penchant for organic hues.

“I love to imbue the natural surroundings of my projects in their interiors,” McPherson says. “Highlands offers an abundance of natural inspiration, so bringing in blues and greens to complement the warm earth tones was simply second nature.”

As a renovation, this house presented a distinct set of unseen factors—both challenges and opportunities.

“For me, the best part was being able to capture

more ceiling height in some rooms all the while being able to make the lower height ceilings feel intentional and comfortable,” McPherson says.

A master of transforming a dwelling into a home, the designer elevated the kitchen’s natural wood beams with gold hardware and copper cookware. White fur stools rest against a swirling marble countertop, and vintage-inspired paintings and blue cabinets usher brightness.

Sprinkled throughout are one-of-a-kind lighting fixtures, a patterned bed frame, and a display wall of animal heads that pay tribute to the area’s Appalachian roots. The main level opens to grand views and a cozy lounge with a fire pit—perfect for autumnal evenings.

“I believe that successful spaces are all about balance,” McPherson says. “Light and dark, warm and cool, scale and proportion. To help move your personal home into fall, embrace the warm hues of leaves turning color. So bring in a cozy caramel blanket or introduce an acorn-colored leather to display a bowl of pinecones mixed with seasonal pears and apples.”

A CUP OF REDEMPTION by Carole Bumpus

Like the braiding of three strands of brioche, the lives of three women—Sophie Zabél Sullivan, Marcelle Pourrette Zabél, and Kate Barrington—become inextricably intertwined as each struggle to resolve issues from past wars that have profoundly impacted their lives.

Sophie believed her childhood nightmares were safely behind her once she married and moved to the U.S. from France —until she is called to her mother, Marcelle’s, deathbed to honor one final request: “Search for my father! Search for Pourrette!”

Born on the last day of World War I, Marcelle, whose life epitomizes the human cost of war, never knew her father yet carried the Pourrette name, along with the shame of illegitimacy, as did her two oldest sons born during World War II.

Enlisting the expertise of a friend and family therapist, Sophie encourages Kate to join her in France to help find her grandfather and scour the stain of illegitimacy from her family’s name.

Unbeknownst to Sophie, Kate’s 34-year-old illegitimate daughter, given up for adoption during the Vietnam War, has recently reappeared. Kate, struggling with her own shame and guilt, pushes aside her feelings to join Sophie in France.

The Watermen, The Wanderers, The Artists

ALSi Apparel started on my extensive travel for the past 25 years. Through surfing, I became fueled by adventure but, more importantly, obsessed with the experience of the journey, different cultures, and lifestyles. I discovered there are people living the quality of life most people dream about. The Caribbean has always been special to me, and I have always been moved to get back there any time I could. All the islands have their own unique and rich culture and heritages. The people are warm and welcoming. For the lifestyle the brand is portraying, the Caribbean has it all. The beauty of the islands and its water can be breathtaking. For living and traveling, it has a variety of healthy activities that can be attractive to all: surfing, sailing, hiking, sunbathing, diving, golf, and even rainforests. It is very diverse and enriched with resources. More importantly, the people are living a healthy and robust life. Covid led many to what I like to call these quality-of-life sports, and I saw that there was no global eco-conscious brand from the Caribbean. So powered by my love for the Caribbean people and environment. I wanted to create a brand for a platform for positive change. I wanted to bring artists and other people that I have come across on my travels that are less known but extremely talented and successful in their own way to life. The main goal was to have an impact on these people that have given so freely to me over the past decades. The world has become so small, and the idea is to carry this vision to all because anyone can be inspired by the island's lifestyle. To spotlight the islander's warmth, vibrance, and talents is what ALSi aims to keep doing.

All the artists I have met and worked with are either through friends, surfing, or just being engrossed in the communities in which they live. We can be working with 1-5 artists at any given time. Each artist wants to portray themselves and their art differently, so it is always a challenge but fun at the same time. We have done numerous shows and have been a springboard for the artists to showcase themselves in solo shows and expand into things such as NFTs. It has been rewarding to watch. For us, to work with them and collaborate on different collections has been super fun. They each have different areas they want to explore, such as towels, bags, bathing suits, and shirts.

One of my goals is to make travelers and supporters of ALSi sensitive to the island's potential, and this will hopefully be a conduit as a way for the islands to grow into you, too.

ALSi Apparel Co. is a global eco-conscious apparel brand born in the Caribbean and based in Puerto Rico. Inspired by tropical adventures, we seek a better quality of life under the sun. We are powered by our love for people and the natural environment. More than an apparel company, ALSi is a platform for positive change. To be impactful, purposeful, and genuine—that’s our mission.

Founder Gene Gentile, has been traveling the world surfing, exploring, and sailing for 30 years. He has deep roots in the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the USVI. He wanted to make a brand that could best be told by the individuals who inspired him. The watermen, the wanderers, the artists, and the avant-garde who have traveled the globe and have chosen the Caribbean as their home.

The Naissance of the Ralph Lauren Lifestyle:

HOW RALPH LAUREN BUILT AN ENDURING AMERICAN FASHION ICON.

Irecently went to the Bal Harbour Shops in Miami with my family. As we stepped into one of my favorite stores, Ralph Lauren, we all grew silent. I let out a hushed gasp in awe at the thickly refined cable knits, deep stone and earthy tones, magnificently heavy leather jackets, tailored suits galore, quintessential Polo emblems, richly-toned silk ties, and twinkling evening wear. There is something so aspirational yet so familiar about Ralph Lauren and the lifestyle this label represents - you can almost animate it into an actual human being you’d look forward to meeting. Just about anyone can grasp Ralph Lauren’s brand identity

in an instant. This is true not only because of Ralph’s constant dedication and thoughtfulness to the brand he built but also because many of us grew up romanticizing the Ralph Lauren lifestyle.

But, just like with most dreams and goals, the Ralph Lauren brand was not built in a day. The Ralph Lauren brand name actually comes from the man behind the brand - Ralph Lifshitz. He was born in the Bronx, New York City, to Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants. Due to bullying, Ralph went on to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, who changed his last name to Lauren at the age of 16. After being discharged from the US Army, Ralph worked as a Sales As-

www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com 61

sociate for Rivetz, a necktie brand. In 1967, at the age of 28, Ralph convinced the tie manufacturer he was working for at the time (Beau Brummell) to launch Ralph’s own collection of ties. Ralph launched a line of handmade neckties with the best fabrics, fully dedicated to ensuring the best quality for his clients since the very beginning. It is evident that at the dawn of the label Ralph Lauren, it was very much founded on elegance, Old Hollywood Glamour, and everything Ralph Lauren genuinely loved and aspired to be.

Just a year after his tie collection, Ralph launched his first-ever menswear collection in 1968, inspired by his love of sports. Of course, he named his new line “Polo.” This collection certainly had some standout pieces and made a great and tumultuous first impression (like using fabrics and patterns that were not so often seen at the time). Ralph certainly was very proud of his creations, and you can picture him at that time delivering to stores himself to feature his designs.

The 70s was a very important decade for the start of his label, opening his first store in Bloomingdale’s in 1970 (he, of course, oversaw every detail of decor), launching womenswear and the iconic Polo Pony logo in 1971, introducing the signature Polo shirt and featuring a variety of colors and the finest fabrics in 1972, along with menswear-inspired looks for women (as per popular request), and in 1974 he had his first Hollywood break by designing the menswear looks for the cast of The Great Gatsby.

He had such a clear vision of exactly what his brand would be from the very beginning, which I believe is one of the main reasons why the brand’s identity is so consistent and enduring to this day.

Fast forward to Ralph Lauren increasing its esteem and influence in Hollywood throughout the years, like dressing Diane Keaton in some of the most memorable looks in the film Annie Hall, or dressing

Gwyneth Paltrow in an unforgettable pink gown for the 1999 Oscars.

Ralph Lauren was increasingly winning the hearts of many, winning award after award, like the CFDA Lifetime Achievement award in 1991. Audrey Hepburn, who presented the award to Ralph, smiled warmly at Ralph as he’d say, “You have to do what you believe in and stay with it…never give it up.” Ralph’s tremendous faith and passion in his vision, along with his zeal and dedication to accomplish every project he began, is truly inspiring. He endlessly found new ways to keep expanding his brand - and it always made sense! It’s like the most intelligent character development you’d ever read about.

He began to release fragrances, opened stores in the US that redefined the whole concept of a flagship store and retail experience, expanded stores internationally, launched a home collection (a first for a clothing designer at the time), and became a publicly traded company after reaching $1 billion in sales in 1997.

Ralph created a whole persona of who the Ralph Lauren brand is and created it with such depth and thought into every slight detail - from the luxuriously dapper and rustic decor of his stores, the fragrances, home decor collections, brand iconography (like the adored Polo Bear), collections and brand labels (like the authentically Western double RL and the refined Purple Label), the giving back to the community from the heart. From the opening of Ralph Lauren curated restaurants and cafes, the celebrities and events he would personally style and dress (like becoming the official outfitter for Wimbledon and the Olympic Team USA), and even the lifestyle Ralph himself publicly had are some of the many layers there are to the Ralph Lauren persona. He made sure to have something for everyone and pioneered one of the fullest brand identity experiences to date.

Ralph Lauren’s styles place you in yacht and country clubs,

summer reunions at the Hamptons, a collegiate sailing club’s day off, preppy autumns in New England, a socialites’ family Christmas party at St. Moritz, blue bloods escaping to their Colorado ranch vacation home, front row at the Argentine Polo Open Championship, a romantic wedding at Lake Como, an intimate Cessna flight over the African safari… Ralph Lauren is for the ambitious dreamers who shamelessly chase them.

He is today the most likely brand aesthetic of mind when imagining what true American elegance is. But, I can’t really mention what Ralph Lauren has done for redefining American elegance without mentioning some of Ralph’s very own hobbies.

For those that may not know, Ralph Lauren is a tremendous car aficionado, owning almost 100 vehicles (including rare collector cars). Some gorgeous cars he owns include a rare Lamborghini Reventón Roadster, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Mille Miglia, a 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK “Count Trossi,” a Bugatti Veyron, a very rare McLaren F1 LM, and many more. As someone who also adores cars, especially older classic cars, it would be a dream come true to visit his garage. His cars have even been featured in museum exhibits, like

in L ’Art de L’ Automobile at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and inviting guests for the first time to view his garage during his presentation of Ralph Lauren 2017 Fall/Winter Ready-To-Wear collection in New York Fashion Week. His passion for speed, adventure, elegance, and design (whether rooted in his car collection, his love for sports like Polo, or his admiration for the great outdoors) is evidently reflected throughout the brand’s aesthetic.

Another important factor to mention is that vital to Ralph Lauren’s brand identity is the appreciation for a warm familial bond. The image of a strong and united family is such a big part of the brand, like Ralph Lauren’s own brand ambassador: the world-renowned Argentine Polo Player, Nacho Figueras, and his beautiful wife, Delfina, and 4 children. You will most likely always see them together, traveling together, going to events together, and even seeing his kids follow his footsteps in Polo. Just taking a look at his Instagram page makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and it gives you such a clear reflection of who a Ralph Lauren family is.

In fashion, most trends come and go, while others stick around a bit longer, and we usually see how designers adapt to these trends

www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com 63

uniquely. But, there are few designers that create such a multifaceted identity and aesthetic that stays consistent throughout time - as Ralph Lauren has achieved. When you watch Ralph Lauren collections back to back, it is almost like watching your favorite series, where every collection tells a story that connects with that ever-present exciting factor. There’s also a very evident brand evolution, but the DNA remains so clear and ubiquitous. When you think you’ve seen the best Ralph Lauren collection, he surprises you with the next one with something bigger and better.

As for the relevance of Ralph Lauren designs today, we have, without a fault, seen a tremendous comeback of what Gen-Z’s call the “Old Money” preppy style in mainstream fashion. This is why Ralph Lauren is also still one of the most relevant brands to date among younger generations.

Ralph Lauren has the formula down to a tee in staying ahead of the trends while remaining timeless and classic… and even maintaining brand identity. Just take a look at Ralph Lauren’s site, and you will find something for everyone - Ralph Lauren’s most beloved lines like double RL and The Purple Label, new collections like the RL 888, The RL 888 house (which is a stunning CGI-powered digital expression), Polo Heritage staples, custom Polo personalizations, and even an online antique and vintage store where you can find incredible Ralph Lauren archival pieces. It’s honestly so exciting to always see so many fresh new ideas for Ralph Lauren while still having that timeless feel. Younger generations are also straying away from fast fashion trends and being more drawn to classic looks that are bound to last generations.

For this season, we have Ralph Lauren’s Fall/ Winter Ready-To-Wear 2023-24 collection that we can look to for inspiration. Instead of opting for a fashion show production, Ralph decided to reveal his recent collection for this season via a lookbook and showroom appointments. This collection is simply gorgeous, following Ralph’s signature mixing styles by pairing classic tailored looks with unexpectedly fun details - like styling a flowy watercolor-esque maxi skirt with a knit turtleneck and fringed patina leather jacket. Some of my personal favorite styles from this collection were his monochrome looks like a black embellished velvet jacket and waistcoat, styled with a crisp white button blouse, black ribbon tie, black felt hat, cowboy belt, and embellished dark-wash jeans.

Ralph Lauren will carry on to be a representative of the perfectionist, an advocate of the fruit of your labor, a companion of the intellectual, a champion of quiet opulence, a voyager of romance and daydreams, and an aspirational and international brand that will forever radiate warmth, approachability, and composure.

LUX SPEAKS TO TWO LEADING INTERIOR DESIGNERS

Who would have guessed that a pandemic would fuel the interior design industry?” Cindy Rinfret’s career has spanned three decades, and while she has seen a great deal of change during that time, Covid’s impact has been particularly remarkable. People engaged with every corner of their homes in a wholly new way; it became a place, for many of us, in which we had to eat, work, educate, exercise, and sleep, on repeat. “Having to be quarantined in your home brought a whole new appreciation for the furnishings and design business,” continues Cindy. And with WFH now so commonplace, “having a well-designed, comfortable environment has become increasingly important.”

Interior designer Layton Campbell agrees, noting that during and in the aftermath of the pandemic, he saw “a huge shift

towards people focusing on enhancing their dwelling spaces… I do think [Covid] ushered in the maximalist movement: more is more, and color reigns supreme. People wanted to be comforted by their surroundings, and the lusher the interiors, the bigger that ‘hug’ became.”

And, to populate our Instagram-worthy ‘shelfie’ displays, outdoor spaces, and home offices, where did we turn? To our favorite fashion houses, seeking furniture, wallpaper, cushions, candles and more. A significant change in the interiors industry prior to the pandemic was the increase in apparel brands moving into interiors, and they have capitalized on our collective – and increasing – desire to snap up items for our homes. Social media has unsurprisingly played its part, giving users an opportunity to showcase their own homes like never before and brands a

direct line of communication with their customers. Etro, known for its “opulent paisleys and haute-hippie garb,” according to W Magazine, uses Instagram to display not only its apparel lines but also its covetable Milan Design Week launches earlier this year.

“A dose of fashion in the home is well received by our clients,” confirms Cindy. “Who doesn’t love an Hermès throw on their sofa?!” She mixes and matches the most appropriate items and brands for each project because “what’s exciting is unique layers of special fabrics and furnishings. Quality is timeless.” One of her favorite ‘go-to’ brands is known worldwide for selling the best material for men’s suits, but Cindy explains that “most people don’t know that Holland & Sherry is also one of the finest fabric houses in the home category. We love using its fabrics on upholstery and curtains and its magnificent hand embroidery for pillows and trims. Tailored, classic, and beautifully detailed.”

These words could describe Ralph Lauren equally well, which Layton remembers as the largest fashion brand to spread its wings into home

and lifestyle in his early years as a designer. Lauren was pioneering in launching his all-encompassing interiors brand, Ralph Lauren Home, in 1983, and Fendi Casa, Versace Home, and Armani/ Casa all followed suit. “The iconic ads featuring interiors are still jaw-dropping to this day,” says Layton. Nowadays, he gravitates towards boutique brands and fashion designers who do collections for larger companies or who have launched their own lines. “Some clients do appreciate a [fashion designer’s] name, and if they can relate to their style, this translates into an understanding of how that brand will weave itself into the design of their home.”

At the Ballet

Inspired by the visually delicate yet fiercely moving art form, elements of ballet were seen in many winter collections. Ballet flats, leg warmers, frills, tulles and tutus, embellished leotards over tights, milky pinks, velvety blacks, and whisper whites are some examples of the many ballet-inspired elements seen throughout this season. We saw dance-practice-ready looks with Marc Jacobs pairing leotards with sheer tights, white ankle socks, and flats; pastel pinks, bow motifs, and tulle details were seen with Giambatittsa Valli; and Miu Miu layering undergarments over opaque tights, paired with matching cardigans and dancer-off-duty zip-up hoodies.

More designers that also had ballet-inspired details and looks include: Jacquemus, Vivienne Westwood, Simone Rocha, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Leonard, and more!

Down a Notch

Pairing a laid-back hoodie with a tailored suit, sweatpants with a glossy trench coat, and refined structures with simpler silhouettes - we have been seeing less complex garments and styles overall throughout Winter Ready-To-Wear 23/24. Fashion trends are increasingly gravitating towards being more timeless. Trends are surely not becoming more “basic” but rather evolving to be more enduring and thoughtful. Looks are becoming more sustainable throughout time and radiate a quieter and more profound luxury.

Boxy structures, chunky sneakers, grungy boots, and hype beast logomania seen trending in the recent past are slowly being replaced with lavish fabrics that speak for themselves, monochromatic looks with varied

rich textures, bespoken and signature accessories, and sleeker footwear (like the influencer-loved Adidas Samba sneakers and Pinterest-approved flat patent Mary-Janes).

Designers have also stepped away from excessively oversized fits to showcase more tailored silhouettes that feel a whole lot less like fast fashion and a whole lot more classic and prudent.

Think: mixing business with pleasure, channeling Sunday and Monday, and that effortless model-off-duty style. For inspiration, check out styles from designers like Akris, Miu Miu, Hermes, Giambattista Valli, Isabel Marant, Maison Kitsune, Bottega Veneta, Givenchy, Paco Rabanne, Max Mara, Vivienne Westwood, and Palm Angels among many.

CEO Vibes Only!

Trends seem to show us that Gen-Z’s have a sort of craving for uniformity and academia style. This is probably since workplace attire has increasingly become more casual in most industries, there is a lingering nostalgia for a style that the youth were perhaps only exposed to by watching films and shows. Loafers, waistcoats, tailored blazers, crisp white button-ups, rich earthy tones, skinny ties, smart 3-piece suits, pinstripes and paisley… these are some of the business attire inspired elements seen throughout Winter Ready-ToWear 2023/24.

But, what was fun to observe is how each designer gave their own unique interpretation of this trend, sort of hinting us to feel inspired to break the dress code a bit and have fun with it. Some highlights include Marni’s Clueless-esque yellow plaid sets, Valentino’s newfound love for skinny ties paired with cool sets and neo-punk jewelry, and (my personal favorite) Schiaparelli sticking to the label’s roots and channeling the Elsa Schiaparelli’s wardrobe by including quintessential whimsical gold motifs and jewelry, wrapped headpieces, and deliciously tailored suits and sets that had every bit of elegance and signature playfulness.

More designers that implemented this classic style in their collections include: Chanel, Isidore Montag, Akris, Isabel Marant, Coperni, Sacai, Max Mara, Lanvin, Zimmermann, Stella McCartney, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Palm Angels, DEMO, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and more!

No Gray Areas

Iam not sure whether it is right to define this as a trend since it is the most enduring color combination to ever exist in the fashion industry but wow…there were so many exquisite Black and White looks! Whether we saw black combined with white or all white and all black monochrome looks, there was something that was quietly spectacular about seeing incredible designs in this color palette. The attention shifted to the accessories, textures, and styling.

It is just breathtaking how something so seemingly simple as black and white, can be so impacting and powerful. You can grab multiple black and white individual pieces and come up with endless outfit combinations. By choosing the right pieces, these looks can essentially last forever and never go out of style.

Great examples of collections embracing black and white this season include: Hermes, Dundas, Stella McCartney, Sacai, Versace, Valentino, Palm Angels, Givenchy, Chloe, Balmain, Marc Jacobs, Issey Miyake, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Max Mara just to name a few.

Main Character Energy

With sleeker and more minimal garments, the focus on elevating looks shifted to relying on standout accessories and details. With the right statement brooch, signature earrings, oversized bag, leather baseball cap, wool baker boy hat, vibrant scarf, distinct shoes, and layering shiny and matte fabrics or 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional textures - you can elevate any outfit with the right embellishments that are true to you and your signature style.

In summary - exude main character energy with the right finishing touches! This season’s styles may seem simpler at a glance, but as you look closer there is such a masterly precision and dedication to getting just the right details to make a major impact, effortlessly. For inspiration, check out these designers’ F/W ReadyTo-Wear 2023/24 collections: Stella McCartney, Coperni, Versace, Chanel, Hermes, Giambattista Valli, Avellano, Dundas, Louis Vuitton, Paco Rabanne, Givenchy, Max Mara, Loewe, Lanvin, and Schiaparelli.

Femme Fatale

Ultra-femininity is certainly being celebrated a lot this year, seeing the hottest of pinks, bow and floral motifs, soft curves, goddess-inspired draping, enchanting lace, touches of sheerness here and there, enthralling necklines, fiery reds, and defined hourglass silhouettes. There were also homage collections inspired by our favorite female icons (like Jaquemus’s Lady D-inspired collection), and lots of the 50s and early 60s Hollywood glamour influences were seen as well. I also have to mention that Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie had all of us suddenly seeing la vie en rose everywhere, sparking a revival of Barbie archival styles and signature shades of pink.

Zimmermann, Givenchy, Balmain, Elie Saab, Giorgio Armani, Giambattista Valli, Schiaparelli, Self-Portrait, Versace, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Vivienne Westwood, Fendi, Moschino, Roberto Cavalli, and Givenchy are some of the designers that greatly embraced this trend.

Homage to Vivienne Westwood

The Grand Dame of punk may be gone physically, but her spirit and spunk continues to be as vibrant as ever throughout this season’s trending styles. Vivienne Westwood’s one-of-a-kind romantically punk signature style was seen in designers like Valentino, Marc Jacobs, and more! Many fashion icons of today are also inspired by and celebrate Westwood’s style: including Bella Hadid, FKA Twigs, Harry Styles, SZA, Saweetie, Olivia Rodrigo and more. Vivienne Westwood’s impact in fashion will continuously be seen all over social media, red carpets, artist stages, and still in the hearts of designers that are also so inspired by her.

Sicilian Splendor in a Fashionable Fabled 19th Century Palazzo

A WORLD-CLASS HOTEL REVIVED BY ROCCO FORTE TO ITS FORMER SPLENDOR, SHARING OLD AND NEW.

Sicily is just too big an island to cover in a week. I suggest going to Western Sicily (as I chose) with Palermo, where one airport is (with Monreale) and then the southwest (with Agrigento).

There’s much to see within the bustling city of Palermo, especially in the old town, which felt heady, exuberant, and theatrically baroque. Not to miss are the Norman Palace (with its stunning Cappella Palatina), the Fontana Pretoria, and the baroque churches (of which the Gesu and La Martorana are very special). Somewhat neglected is the Teatro Massimo, with its royal box and echo chamber all redolent of the Liberty years of the Belle Epoque. The Cathedral with palm trees outside is a wonderful combination of Norman, Moorish and Gothic architecture. I particularly recommend the 10,000 ceramic tiles at Rooms at the Museum of Majolica Genius (open only between 3 and 5pm).

Stunning positioned along the coast, looking out across the bay and fifteen minutes from the city centre is the majestic Villa Igiea www.roccofortehotels.com/villa-igiea. Rocco Forte revived this

world-class hotel to its former splendor. Originally designed to be approached from the water, the villa had its sand-colored, crenellated façade extended to become a hotel. The Villa Igiea’s literature hails itself as a “small corner of Sicilian paradise,” and unquestionably, it has maintained all the glamour of its 1920s heyday. Swallows swoop over tiered lawns, terraces, and pathways are lined with scented jasmine and immaculate topiary. The pool, set beside an original Greek ‘tholos’ temple, has a peaceful, airy expanse amid the soothing sound of yachts either on the move or tingling their masts.

The public rooms are sublime. There’s an impressive, vast ballroom, and there’s the Art Nouveau, or Liberty Style, as Italians say, Sala Basile, with mural frescoes of languid maidens amongst meadows. And there’s my favorite: the splendid Florio dining room with its potted plants and light blue wicker chairs around beautifully spaced tables. Of the 78 rooms (starting from €620 per night), mine felt brand new: so high was the quality of its finishing. So crisp and classic the décor. It had stunning views over

www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com 103

the garden, the yachts in the marina, the glinting sea, and the misty mountains. Come evening, the drinks on the terrace felt sophisticated and romantic. It’s best to dine al fresco on the outdoor terrace if possible, and at night, it’s beautifully lit as a pianist performs from the vaulted bar As I dined, I was lucky enough to witness a wonderful reflection of the full moon across the water.

Five miles south is Monreale, a picturesque town that’s charming and attractive. It’s set on the slope of Monte Caputo and overlooks the fertile ‘conca d'oro’ (Golden Shell), described by Oscar Wilde as “the exquisite valley that lies between two seas.” It’s home to orange, olive, and almond trees, whose produce is widely exported. With its gorgeous Arab, Byzantine, and Norman influences the cathedral has to be seen, for it’s a testament to the human spirit and a glorious homage to Christ, whose giant face looks down in his golden apse over the altar and congregation. Through the interior are intricate mosaics of biblical scenes, and there’s so much wonder to absorb in wandering around the cloister with its palm and olive trees

encircled by columns with a multitude of different mosaics and carvings.

I left the mosaics of Monreale to journey around the patchwork of fields inland. With rugged mountains in front of further mountains as an extra backdrop, the scenic views swept, undulating and dramatically, twenty miles or more. Such a contrast between wild contours and cultivated land. It’s rich in volcanic rock and ash, producing extremely fertile soils. There are abundant olive groves in a landscape speckled with vineyards. The orchards of orange trees were so compact in their fight for light. All joyously fertile and yielding. The meadows of intoxicating wildflowers of many colors seemed as though a rainbow had descended on earth. It left me wondering how nature could be so pretty. I left feeling how one Sicilian proverb has it: “Li ricchi cchiù chi nn'hannu, cchiù nni vonnu.” (“The more you have, the more you want”).

A Toast to Celebration

A SPARKLING WINE TO UNITE ALL RELATIONSHIP STATUSES

— WHETHER SINGLE, MARRIED, OR DIVORCED —

THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

When Irena Patar envisioned creating a celebratory wine, she always knew it would be more than a bottle on a shelf. Originally from the Republic of Georgia, the cradle of the wine world, Patar grew up surrounded by family, bubbles, and celebration. After a career in computer science, with college on the horizon for her two kids, she knew the moment was right to merge her love for sparkling wine with her passion for human connection.

The idea behind the founder’s Single Married Divorced Sparkling Wine concept? A result of her keen observations from friendship and travel.

“In the early days of idea development, I realized that so many people are unhappy because they let their relationships define who they are,” Patar says. “I wanted to create something that could serve as a reminder for people to celebrate, instead of going to the bar, drinking, and grieving. Whether that is toasting to a second chance to meet the right person, commemorating renewed love, or creating the life you want now.”

108 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

Patar’s brut trio is crafted in the méthode champenoise style and rooted in a fruity, floral, and memorable drinking experience. The wine is yellow-gold with aromas of apricot and peach that carry deeper undertones of brioche and hazelnut. Patar says her goal was three-fold: To craft a high-quality wine, educate her consumers, and offer a beautiful product at an accessible price point.

“I sampled about a dozen wines,” Patar says. “I have amazing relationships with very respected individuals in the wine world who were kind enough to assist with blind tastings and help narrow down the options.

I love that Single Married Divorced Sparkling

Wine drinks like champagne, but doesn’t exhaust your palate. It opens you up for more.”

The wine, refreshing and elegant, pairs best with seafood like oysters or caviar, pastry hor d’oeuvres, and desserts with caramel flavors. However, Patar’s creation, like a celebration, is intended to be enjoyed in any moment of life.

“It’s a tribute to the myriad of ways we experience and navigate love, commitment, and growth,” Patar says. “Whether sipping in

solitude, toasting to shared futures or raising a glass to new beginnings, each relationship status holds its own significance. Through our wine, we aspire to recognize and celebrate these distinct phases, inviting consumers to connect with the wine on a deeply personal level.”

This holiday season, Patar hopes Single Married Divorced Sparkling Wine will connect family and friends and serve as a means to form new bonds.

“What better time for this holiday season, to pop a bottle to the embodiment of life’s journey, encapsulating the laughter, tears, and everything in between,” Patar says. “As consumers pour a glass of our sparkling wine, they’re not merely indulging in a drink; they’re indulging in a moment of reflection, a chance to embrace the memories and emotions that define their relationship stories.”

The Power of Food is becoming much more Powerful.

Dear Marci,

It seems like everyone is talking about eating healthy these days, but do you really believe food can make a difference in how our body heals and fights disease? —Wanting to know more

I’ve always believed in food. When I was a little girl, my mother used to tell everyone she couldn’t keep me out of the kitchen, but when you grow up in a big Italian family, you figure out really quickly the kitchen is where all the excitement is. And I loved being there, with all the people, and the celebrations, but mostly, all the food, because to me, food has all the power.

a higher nutritional profile and more health benefits, and plant-based foods with a focus on healthy fats, complex carbs, and protein enhance stamina and reduce the risk of chronic disease.

So today, when people ask me why I believe in food so much, it’s an easy answer. “Food is what I turned to when I needed to find the answers.”

I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I found the answers, actually, in the kitchen, and that’s where I’ve been, discovering the power of food and myself at the same time. I found out a lot while I was there, too. Like the right foods, nourish, transform, and even heal. Food at its best provides the vital energy of life, and the better the foods, the more potent the benefits for our bodies and our minds.

Today, everyone cares about what they eat. All the latest, greatest, and hottest conversations are focused on eating to improve our physical health, our mental health, and our quality of life, and the timing could not be better.

We now have the hard science telling us our bodies react a certain way to what we eat and the zeitgeist is echoing the transforming power of food. It’s a perfect storm of health and wellness, and more and more, research is concurring; when we put the right food into our body, our cells, our neurotransmitters, and every single system is healthier and happier.

We know by eating whole, clean, unprocessed, and unrefined foods, we minimize exposure to harmful chemicals and decrease unhealthy inflammation. Eating food closer to its original source has

From there, when it comes to food and power, the news is even more promising. With recent nutritional research looking at the gut microbiome, we understand certain foods can elevate good gut bacteria, improving digestive processes and, with that, immune functioning, as well as mood and cognition.

Simply by adding prebiotic foods like garlic, onions, leeks, and dandelion greens, with a focus on fiber-rich beans and veggies, and probiotic foods, like kombucha, yogurt, or kimchi, we improve our ability to fight diseases and facilitate dopamine and serotonin production, resulting in better mental health.

Better health with better food is always something to celebrate. However, the most recent breakthrough is by far the most compelling. Research is revealing individuals with more of the good gut bacteria and less bad gut bacteria are more likely to respond to the newest immunotherapy drugs when in treatment for cancer. And even more, a higher fiber diet appears to feed the good bacteria, making them better fighters and playing a role in strengthening the immune response to cancer, as well.

Although this area is very new, it’s hard not to get excited at the promise of, in some way, influencing treatment and recovery for cancer with food. To me, when food, science, and our bodies can work together to save lives, there is nothing more powerful. I’ll gladly stay in the kitchen for this one.

And while I’m in there, I’ll be making this Celebration Salad because it brings together and celebrates the healthiest ingredients to ensure we have the power to live life to the fullest.

MARCI’ S CELEBRATION SALAD

• 1 head lacinato kale, trimmed and cut into shreds

• 2 cups brussel sprouts, shredded

• 2 heads of Belgian endive, shredded

• 1 cup granny smith, or any favorite apple, diced and roasted

Trim the lacinato kale and then cut the kale, brussel sprouts, and Belgian endive into shreds. Place in a large salad bowl and toss with the 2 TBS olive oil and juice of one-half lemon.

Season with salt and pepper and massage it all together until the mixture is covered with the oil and lemon juice. Set aside and leave at room temperature while you prepare the rest of the salad ingredients.

On a large cookie sheet, place pumpkin and potatoes, drizzle a small amount of olive oil, season with salt and pepper and roast on 375 for about 20 minutes. At this point, remove from oven, add apples and cranberries, and continue to roast everything for an additional 15 minutes until tender but still al dente. Remove from oven and let sit for about ten minutes, then assemble all ingredients by placing kale mixture on a large platter first, top with roasted mixture, and drizzle with apple cider maple dressing. Sprinkle with pumpkin seeds and season with salt and pepper.

• 1 cup fresh pumpkin, diced and roasted

• 1 cup fresh cranberries, roasted

• 1 1/2 lb small purple potatoes, roasted and halved

• 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds

• 2 TBS olive oil

APPLE CIDER MAPLE GINGER VINAIGRETTE

• 1/2 cup olive oil

• 1/4 cup apple cider

• 3 TBS balsamic vinegar

• 2 TBS maple syrup

• 1 teaspoon dijon, or favorite spicy mustard

• 1 clove garlic

• 1-inch piece of turmeric root

• 1-inch piece of ginger root, peeled

Chef’s Table

CHEF FREDERIC KIEFFER EXECUTIVE CHEF AND PARTNER GREENWICH HOSPITALITY GROUP

“WE HAVE A MISSION TO BETTER THE WORLD WITH FOOD”

In his words, “It is a great responsibility to lead a kitchen, not only for the staff and the customers in the dining room, but for future generations.” From the choices we make, with the food we buy, to our preparation and sourcing methods, we have a mission to better the world with food.”

His guiding philosophy centers around a more sustainable approach for hospitality and, with each, and every recipe, he blends his culinary passion with a monumentous respect for the ecosystem of food, and creates the perfect dish. Building a gastronomical platform with a moral compass is a priority within the Greenwich Hospitality Group and, it is apparent, Chef Frederic is initiating a movement to transcend food and hospitality, and make the world a better place to be.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR MISSION TO BETTER THE WORLD WITH FOOD?

We are very mindful about how and what we cook in our kitchens and consider what we can do to reduce the carbon footprint with every recipe. We look for the best local and organic sources of food first, and when we can, we try to grow our own food to use in the restaurants.

The very best culinary leaders realize food is a universal source of sustenance, both physically and emotionally, nourishing lives, and bringing people, community, and cultures together. In their kitchens, food is a prized life force, and for them, esteemed, valued and commanding the most sincere respect.

It’s already a thoughtful and mindful approach, yet I believe the most passionate chefs, do even better, and, appreciate the true power of food.

Chef Frederic Keiffer is in the ranks of what I consider to be the most profound and powerful masters of cuisine, working in harmony with the environment, the ecosystem, and mother nature, to transform food into something greater.

It is very important to us to make the right choices when we buy our food, and we partner with sustainable seafood sources and area farms to provide the food for our restaurant. Foods that grow in season are healthier, better for the environment, and easier to get locally so we let the calendar and seasons guide the dishes we offer to customers. Our menus change seasonally and reflect the best ingredients we can source.

It is important to us to teach our staff about the significance of cooking with the environment in mind. Our menus and food offerings are developed with this sustainable approach so the food our patrons are eating are healthier for them and better for the environment. If we do this right, and balance all the natural resources available to the hospitality industry, I feel we have the opportunity to better the world with food.

112 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

WHAT DOES ROLE DOES FOOD AND SUSTAINABILITY PLAY IN YOUR FAMILY LIFE TODAY?

Food and sustainability have a central role in my family. It’s our core. We have a garden at home. My wife tends to it more than me. From April to November we do not buy anything at the store. We grow lettuce, strawberries, tomato, apples, eggplant, beans… We grow most of what we eat. When you harvest food you grow there is nothing better than that. At the end of the season we can our vegetables and use them for food in the fall and winter months. It is very satisfying.

My wife is from Europe and her parents were from a rural area of Germany, where there is a lot of farmland. Animals were part of her upbringing. She has a good understanding of where food comes

from, and the origins. Cooking food from scratch, from what we grow, homemade food, was part of her family’s culture. We share the same values.

I have chickens at home, different breeds. My children are involved in raising them and gathering the eggs. It is important to me my kids learn and understand about the lifecycle of food.

We serve very limited processed food in my home, only Nutella. My kids love healthy food and they like to bring fresh sandwiches for lunch at school. If I want to punish them I make then eat at school. It's the harshest punishment they could have.

We appreciate local sources and living with a sustainable focus. In our family there is great respect for animals, food, nature, and the environment. It all starts at home for me.

www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com 113

HEY CHEF, WHAT DOES YOUR TABLE LOOK LIKE?

It looks like a complete table where everyone must be present. My wife, and I, and my three children are at the table. We have at least one meal together every day.

In season, our meals start with what is in the garden. We serve fresh eggs that we gather from our chickens for breakfast almost every day. On Saturdays and Sundays we make homemade crepes or waffles, and and also an egg based recipe. In the summer we fish a lot and cook what we catch.

My family will always ask what is for dinner. They look forward to spending time at our table. There is a great respect for food and food is a priority. My children are open to all kinds of foods. On our table we have a lot of vegetable choices, green squash from the garden, fresh herbs, and lots of food from local farms. We always talk about food and discuss where it comes from and who is growing it.

My children are exposed to a variety of quality foods. It is very important. Our table is a place we enjoy spending time together and we learn respect for the earth.

As the Executive Chef you have a great responsibility overseeing the culinary realm for the all Delamar restaurants.

WHAT DOES “SUSTAINABLE HOSPITALITY” MEAN TO YOU?

The mission here is so much more than buying food and cooking it. You have to understand there is a reason for what you cook and how you cook it. I want all the chefs who work in our restaurants to understand the meaning of food and the role that it plays in the world.

To me, sustainable hospitality means you have to cook responsibly and you have to make the right decisions. Our mission at the Greenwich Hospitality Group, to better the world with food, guides me in every decision I make, in all my kitchens. We are responsible for so

much more than serving food to our guests~we are responsible for the environment, the world, and the earth.

With our restaurants it all starts with local and clean food sources. Our chefs work with the local farms and know all the farmers. We know the professional foragers and the best local sources for all the food we serve on our menus. We not only buy from them but they are our friends. Relationships are important to us, our relationships with people and our relationships with nature.

One of our strongest relationships is with Gilbertie’s. It is an organic family farm in Easton, CT, started by Sal Gilbertie. Most of what we have in our gardens at our restaurants comes from Sal. I still go there every spring and load up my car with herbs and vegetables. Sal has so much knowledge; he is a great teacher and a true storyteller of food. I love our visits.

Every time I go I come away with a lot more than herbs and vegetables; I’m always learning something new about food from Sal. Gilbertie’s was the inspiration for our superfood chopped salad. The beautiful greens and vegetables grown on the farm became the foundation for what we call The Georgette Salad at L’Escale in Greenwich, in honor of our owner, Charles Mallory’s, wife, Georgette.

The way we cook sends a message to our staff and then they bring that message out in the world. It says we need to reduce the carbon foot print and we have a responsibility not just to our guests but to the world and our environment. I think it is very important what we do.

Future generations depend on us to do the right thing, We have a story to tell and I like to think we are doing it with our food

In the waning light of a fall day, there’s a rumble in the air that resonates with the spirit of freedom. It’s the unmistakable growl of a Harley-Davidson, an emblem of unapologetic power and unyielding style. This is the legend that celebrates its 120th anniversary, a testament to the belief that when it comes to motorcycles, more is better.

Back in the day, in a humble shed tucked away on the Davidson’s property, a dream was born. It began with one Harley and three Davidsons, an unlikely quartet that dared to rewrite the rules of transportation and redefine America’s heartbeat. They could have named it Davidson-Harley, given the numerical advantage, but honor prevailed. William Harley’s visionary spark ignited this revolution, earning him the place of honor in the name.

In those early years of 1903, their motorcycles were a symphony of simplicity: a buckle crank, a single-cylinder engine, pedals, and a leather drive belt. To set these two-wheeled marvels in motion, riders had to pedal until the engine roared to life. It was the birth of an era.

2023 Electia Guide Highway King. The third release in the Icons Motorcycle Collection, the 2023 Electra Glide® Highway King is inspired by the beloved era of long-haul scenic adventures. Inspired by our iconic 1968 FLH Electra Glide, Highway King merges classic styling with modern comfort and performance. The Highway King embodies the nostalgia of the cherished two-lane road trip.

But Harley-Davidson was never content with the ordinary. The ambition to push motorcycle technology to its limits led to the creation of the V-Twin engine, a marvel that saw the light of day in 1909. This powerhouse unleashed riders into uncharted territory, propelling them at unheard-of speeds, a blazing 60 mph.

With the V-Twin engine, Harley-Davidson didn’t just change the game; they became the game. By 1910, this technological marvel had become a sensation, churning out 3,200 machines that carried the dreams of a nation on two wheels. The open road had found its champion, and the legend of Harley-Davidson had just begun its thunderous journey through the annals of American history.

BOOKS, BUBBLY, AND BLOOMS GARDEN PARTY

It was the perfect day at Maple Shade, the historic Hamptons home of Kelli Delaney Kot and Dr. Mark Kot, for LUX LIFESTYLE magazine and Bed Side Reading to host an exclusive “Books, Bubbly, and Blooms Garden Party” attracting Hamptons influentials, tastemakers, writers and passionate readers. A dynamic group of twenty authors were selected by Jane Ubell of Bedside Reading which places books by the bedsides, poolsides, firesides and in the hands of VIPS through their partnerships with luxury and boutique hotels. Authors signed their hot new reads and over 200 guests toasted with artisanal cocktails while being served delicious farm to table bites from Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs.

Kelli is known for always adding a fun party trick to her gatherings. Guests swooned over the jaw-dropping BLOOM BAR concept which was filled with over 1,000 fresh cut floral stems from Island Time Farm of Shelter Island. Island Time Farm owners Kelci McIntosh and Chris DiOrio arranged beautiful custom bouquets sweetly wrapped in burlap for each guest to take home - a flower lover’s dream! Weston Table Founder and CEO, Dianne O’Connor curated the BLOOM BAR design to look like a French flower market.

130 www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

Kelci shares, "We had such an incredible time. All of the party guests were so fun and interesting and brought such a positive and kind vibe! I love nothing more than to share the beauty of flowers with others.”

Dianne O’Connor believes that “style is a form of wordless speech.” The BLOOM BAR sang of elegance, beauty, and all the best parts of summer entertaining. Dianne included 19th century copper jugs and watering cans and filled the zinc wine bottle holders of a mid-1800s French rafraichisoire with vases of flowers to share as party favors for guests.

The event was hosted in the Kots' blooming gardens which featured charming conversation tables and sitting areas styled with Weston Table decor including French table linens, Arte Italica Scalloped Pitchers filled with layers of peonies and pink Chinese forget-me-nots. Tables were layered with beautiful NY Botanical Garden tea sets by Tea Forte, melon cups, Oishii strawberries, and the sweetest floral cut out cookies from Cheryl's Cookies.

A NEW WAY TO EXPERIENCE THE WORLD OF HIGH FASHION

Janet Mandell was born with fashion in her blood, but it took immense courage, drive, and an unconventional journey to get to where she is today. Janet didn’t attend design school or work at a fashion house. Instead, she carved her own path in this cutthroat industry as an entrepreneur. Janet launched PeTote (couture pet carriers) in 2001 and Mia Bossi (luxury diaper bags) in 2005 and grew both to over $1.5M in annual sales.

Empowered by decades of experience and invaluable relationships built along the way, Janet came to a moment of clarity in 2018. Her love of fashion and self-taught business acumen, paired with her avant-garde vision, led to the creation of Janet Mandell....a new and innovative way to experience the world of high fashion. And that’s where our story begins.

Janet’s weakness for fashion is a stark contrast to her bold strength in leading her team and running her business. Women flock to the JANET MANDELL show. www.janetmendell.com. Not to be missed:

The wonderment of saying yes to spending time with my daughter and taking on inner exploration. So happy to wear my cashmere sweater, corduroy jacket, and riding boots, a nod to my Irish heritage. A comfortable luxury, where nothing is about the separateness that often comes with the image. The essence that space creates where nothing is missing.

Arriving at the majestic property and being with her in her sensitive teenage years, an opening of what was to come. Taking time in nature surrounded by beauty and great vibes. When presented with the opportunity to attend the 2023 SBC Global and The Falcon, East Meets West retreat in the English countryside, I booked tickets immediately. Committed to parsing time for myself and my daughter, shifting from the fast lane to a leisurely gallop, not fully aware of what was to come.

A smile as Claire chose craft-making for guests, sound bathing, sword fighting, and a cold lake swim by the castle. I saw a side to her that I didn’t know existed. Adventurous in her own way and I relished observing how everyone loved being with her and how she was enjoying all facets of this retreat. This particularly stood out as she initially seemed less than excited to embark on this experience. As a teenager, I was surprised that I was able to look at her from a distance, loving how engaged she was with fellow participants, taking in all the different lectures and opportunities. She displayed

characteristics that reminded me of my own youth, where there was a natural comfort among adults. No need to entertain her, she went off and fully immersed herself. We can give our children the tools but as we know we cannot force them. Once the tools are shared, it is up to them to integrate without any expectation or attachment to the time.

As our host and hostess for this immersive week, Lord Spencer Northampton and Lady Tracy Northampton are the ultimate dream team. Lord Northampton shares “Our vision was to create a hotel dedicated to rest and renewal where people could come to enjoy the peace and beauty of our surrounding landscape. Wellness and a connection to nature is central to our vision and is the thread which runs through everything we do.” As they led the delightful walk of the grounds sharing the history of the exquisite Falcon at Castle Ashby, those words permeated my being. The grounds, the passion for healing, creating the perfect space for people to unearth their true nature.

To my surprise, I have a way of casting people through music. I said to Lady Northampton, “I take you as a Pink Floyd girl” to which she replied, “Oh my, yes!” Being a California girl, there is this relaxed vibe about her, and it made it so easy to connect while strolling the grounds and partaking in activities. Music and connection have been and continue to be instrumental to my journey.

If you haven’t, you should…pause, and relish in how far you have come. Through taking stock, being accepting, aligned, aware, connected, and grateful, you give yourself moments of slowing down to unearth the richness of your inner landscape.
