Tarrac

Filmed on the breathtaking landscapes of Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Tarrac is an Irishlanguage drama about a grieving woman who finds herself drawn back into her local rowing team

“Tarrac! is a story about re-connection –with family, with passion and with heritage.” - Clíona Ní Bhuachalla

Aoife Ni Bhraoin (Kelly Gough) returns home to help her father Brendan ‘The Bear’ O’Briain (Lorcan Cranitch) in his recovery from a heart attack. Also facing the grief of her mother’s death, Aoife deals with it by reacquainting herself with a team of all-female rowers who, against the odds, take on a high stakes Naomhóg rowing competition. Laced with humour, heartbreak and exciting action, Tarrac is the story of a place where the weather and the people have a mind of their own and of a woman who through a sporting passion finally manages acceptance and love.

KERRY BRED

BERTHA’S REVENGE GIN

SERVED AT QUEEN’S FILM THEATRE

Perfectly paired with our FeverTree Classic Tonic and a zest of orange.

A KERRY LEGEND BIG BERTHA

Bertha, or ‘Big Bertha’ as she was known, was a legendary Droimeann cow from Sneem in Co. Kerry. She was reared locally, and was bought as a calf by a farmer called Jerome O’Leary.

When she died on New Year’s Eve 1993, just 3 months shy of her 49th birthday, she had become something of a local celebrity.

“When we were thinking of a name for our gin we wanted to find something that was eyecatching, distinctive and that dove-tailed with the pedigree of what are working with and what we have set out to achieve. The dairy farming heritage of Ballyvolane, our use of whey alcohol in the gin, and our shared love of the gorgeous and gentle characters that can be found only in Ireland led us back to Bertha. To immortalise her memory, we have brought her back in spirit, literally!”

-Justin Green & Anthony Jackson, the duo behind Bertha’s Revenge.

EMERALD REELS EXPLORING IRISH CINEMA

While there is no doubt about the quality of DayLewis' performance, a debate continues around the representation of disabled characters by nondisabled actors. Many disabled actors feel that disability on screen and stage should only be represented by disabled people.

University of Atypical is a disabled-led arts charity, taking an empowerment based approach towards supporting disabled and D/deaf people’s involvement in the arts. The organisation specialises in developing and promoting the work of disabled and D/deaf artists and in reaching disabled and D/deaf audiences.

Working with all art forms and across all impairments, University of Atypical delivers a year-round programme of exhibitions and events including the annual Bounce Arts Festival, which presents an exciting range of music, theatre, dance and visual arts by disabled and D/deaf artists, alongside familyfriendly activities.

We are delighted to be joined by University of Atypical after this screening to discuss disability and the arts & the portrayal of disability in film.

Ó Bhéal

This beautiful black & white film delves deep into the process of four artists and how they are breaking new ground in Irish music.

Ó Bhéal tells the story of a moment in time in the Irish musical landscape

A cinematic exploration of the rise of Hip Hop and Electronic artists in Ireland embracing oral traditions of folklore, ancient poetry and sean nós singing to create a new fusion sound, a culture clash through music.

Ó B h é a l

An ensemble piece, featuring Irish language rappers Seán ‘Mory’ Ó Muirgheasa and Oisín Mac, producer and multi-instrumentalist Fehdah, and Limerick rapper Strange Boy. This beautiful film delves deep into these four artists’ process and how they are breaking new ground in Irish music.

Le déanaí, tá ceoltóirí Hip Hop agus Ceol Leictreonach in Éirinn ag tarraingt as tobar domhain an traidisiúin béil, an tseanfhilíocht agus an amhránaíocht ar an sean-nós, ag briseadh talamh nua i réimse an cheoil. Trí súile ceathrar ceoltóir – Mory, Oisín Mac, Fehdah agus Strange Boy faightear léargas domhain ar an gcaoi go bhfuil siad ag brú teorann nua agus ag cruthú ceoil úrnua na nGael.

A DELVE INTO THE ARCHIVES

Thanks to Northern Ireland Screen we have created three themed short films from archival footage for our screenings. These short films will be shown as introductions to Tarrac, My Left foot and Ó Bhéal.
