What Are the Difference Between Organic and Non-Organic Oils How many times have you heard the term ‘organic’ being used to define healthy foods in the recent years? We are sure there have been quite a few instances! But what if we look at this from the perspective of oils in particular? Can organic olive oil be THAT different from regular olive oil? Let us have a look now at some of the major differences of ever similarities between both organic and non-organic oils!

Organic oil vs Regular oil Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Regular vs Organic Let us just begin by saying that regular i.e.non-organic extra virgin olive oil is very close to its organic counterpart. This is because both are produced in the exact same manner. As a result of this, the oil that is produced ends up tasting very similar and almost identical! There is ofcourse one difference, however! Organic olive oil is made from organic olives which are essentially grown without using aunty kind of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or similar artificial products! This means that to be organic, the olives can’t use any chemicals or pesticides to help them grow. More often than not, olive trees are one of the healthiest trees around! On occasion, however, they can still have trouble managing bugs and the likes! In order to keep these issues at bay, olive growers can end up using pesticides to keep bugs away! Thus, olives that are grown without using pesticides produce organic olive oil while olives, on which little pesticide is used, produce regular olive oil!

Seed Oils: Organic vs. Regular Seed oils like canola, sunflower, and even soybean oil can have a huge difference with regards to how both the organic and non-organic versions are made. This also depends on whether or not the seeds are non-genetically modified and whether they are organic in nature or not!

When it comes to telling the difference between organic and non-organic seeds like soybean, canola, and sunflower seeds, one needs to see how they are grown. Seed oils that are organic in nature use organic farming methods to grow. Conventional oils, on the other hand, are more often produced with the help of using pesticides and insecticides!

Relation Between Non-GMO Seeds and the Organic Index Most of the seeds that are not GMO in nature happen to be organic by default! This holds true for seed oils as well. The thing is that a majority of the canola and soybean oil available in the market today is made from genetically modified seeds. The good news is that non-GMO canola and soybean oil can be found as well, but it might take a little bit of effort!

Taste and Smell Are The Same Ok, so it might seem like there might be a difference between the taste in the organic and nonorganic and even the smell. But that is not true! Both these varieties pretty much taste and smell the same. So you can barely make out

The Bottom Line: We hope that you have been able to figure out how different organic and regular oils are and which are better when everything comes down to it! Yes, organic oils are healthier because they haven’t been subjected to pesticides and insecticides! But they also can be harder to find than most. So try to figure out how you can work around that and you will be consuming healthier oil anytime of the day!
