PM’s Niece Shot at Known Weed Hangout Friday, September 16, 2016 Candace Anderson, the 31 year-old niece of Prime Minister Dean Barrow, continues to receive medical treatment after she was shot twice by unknown assailants. Police investigations have determined that at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, she was socializing with several persons at a yard on 7th Street in Belize City, in the King’s Park area. Two unknown men arrived nearby on a motorcycle and one of them immediately went into the yard. He was armed with a gun, and before anyone could react, he fired several shots at the group. Anderson was most likely not the target, but she was injured by two of those bullets, one to the left leg and another in the abdomen. She was immediately rushed to the Belize Medical Associates Hospital, where she received emergency medical treatment. Prime Minister Dean Barrow told the media that, “She had surgery and the prognosis is that she would make a full recovery, so we are very thankful for that.” He said that that his sister, Denise “Sister B” Barrow, was like everyone else, very relieved to hear from the doctor that her daughter had a successful surgery. He doesn’t know, however, what Candace Anderson was doing in that area. Just 2 days before, officers of the Gang Suppression Unit arrested several men from that yard which they say is a base for marijuana peddling. Whatever the reason for her being there, the fact remains that Anderson, who is a Central Bank employee, became an unfortunate victim of the type of gun violence which residents of the Belize
