MASTER SYSTEM

Por Luciano Coelho

Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars is a platform game released by Sega for the Master System in 1988. It is the arcade port released in 1986, the game features Alex in six stages, trying to rescue the "miraculous spheres" that were all stolen by Ziggurat.

Soon after saving the planet Aries from Janken, Alex explores the mysteries of the Miracle World and discovers that the stars of the Aries constellation have been stolen. Daleda, an old wizard who lives in Mount Eternal reveals to him that Ziggarat had stolen the stars over five thousand years ago. And Halifax Kidd, an ancestor of Alex, traveled through time and space to defeat Ziggarat and return the stars to the sky. Now Alex must follow in his footsteps to save the Ziggarat constellation once more. The player takes on the role of Alex and in the arcade version, the second player controls Stella during co-op. The game consists of six levels, each with a miracle ball to collect at the end. And after all the stages are completed we will have to play them all again, a second "loop" so to speak. Is there a lack of imagination?

The Master System Port brings several differences from the arcade version. We can start with the fact that the Arcade version is obviously better graphically speaking, and also the fact that you can play with Alex and Stella, his girlfriend.

I consider this game to be one of Alex Kidd's weirdest games. He has no power, he can only jump or attack an enemy when he takes a specific capsule that appears flying on the screen, jumps with his legs open and what I find most weird: the enemies of the game. The weirdest thing is the naked Punk that throws a skull out of his ass (and it's no joke).

A while after the release of the Master System version, Altered Beast arrived at Arcades, and with a very interesting easter egg. If you fail to get the 3 power pills early in the game, the boss will spawn and run away soon after. So the level will continue and if you pay close attention, you will see several tombstones with Stella's name and on the side a broken one with the name “ALEX”. And in Arcades, Lost Stars had a Co-op mode, which you played with Alex and his girlfriend Stella. Could this easter egg be an omen of what Sega would do with our favorite little dude ? This really is the strangest thing: Alex Kidd no longer has his ability to punch opponents, he now only limits himself to dodging them. When he touches an enemy or he takes damage he lets out a little digitized squeal, and that quickly becomes irritating because it's going to happen, a lot. And another thing: No motorcycle, no helicopter, janken-po... Everything was taken out of the game, all the things that made the big-eared guy known and loved back in his debut game were simply eliminated in this game. And another thing: the stages have time. Your life bar is at the same time a time bar. It decreases as time passes and when Alex takes damage. If the time runs out, the game ends, but at least the game's Continues are unlimited. And that figure down there is the great villain Ziggurat. And for you to defeat him, you just have to run through him until the end of the level. Seriously ?

ALEX KIDD THE LOST STARS Plataforma: Master System Desenvolvedora: Sega Lançamento: 1988

Conclusion: Alex Kidd The Lost Star isn't the best Alex game or the most memorable, it's just a little fun But if you're expecting something on the level of Alex Kidd in the Miracle World, you might be disappointed.

SUPER SUPER NINTENDO NINTENDO

The age of 8 and 16 bits can be considered the golden age of Disney franchises on consoles.

We had wonderful and unforgettable games, where we can mention Castle Of Illusion, Aladdin, Quackshot, among others. And among these games a great trilogy appeared on the SNES called Magical Quest. In the first game, Pluto had been kidnapped and was captured by Pete in the middle of a game with his friends Donald Duck and Goofy. Mickey has set out to the rescue and will be able to wear three different outfits: a Magician, a Firefighter and a Climber. Some clothes can be upgraded in the shops that will be found throughout the game.

The game was released for the SNES in 1992 and was later re-released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002. The game is very fun and addictive. The only bad thing is that it's short.

Graphically, the game is as its name says: magic. The game is very colorful, alive and with many The game was remade for the Game details that impress us. The animation is very fluid. And Magical Quest Boy Advance in 2002 as Magical masterfully uses Mode 7 graphics Quest Starring Mickey & Minnie. It to create multiple levels and captiwas developed by Capcom and vating enemies. The music is very published by Nintendo. In this good and helps to set the perfect version, Minnie was added as a playable character, but her gameplay mood for the game. And speaking of Bosses, Mode 7 gives them an is the same as Mickey. amazing life.

The first time I played as a kid, they really impressed me and some of them even intimidated me. They were huge on screen. They almost covered the entire screen and rotated in a way that was quite surprising. Some fights became quite memorable for me. And what was hard at the time is now fun.

Right at the beginning of the game, Mickey meets a friendly sorcerer who gives him advice and who later on will give him the best things in the game: The clothes The Magician outfit lets Mickey be able to fire blasts of magic. And when charged, the explosion is bigger. The second suit is the firefighter suit. Mickey is able to shoot water, so he can attack all enemies, put out fires, push blocks and form icicles. And the last costume is that of the climber, given by Goofy, which gives him the ability to use a grappling hook, reach high places, and cling to certain objects. He can then hoist or swing on top of them. In addition, your grappling hook can be used to grab items and to stun and weaken enemies.

Conclusion: Magical Quest is one of the best of Disney's late golden age in games and a great representative. And even after all these years he still enchants, entertains and make us fall in love. Like Disney.

TINY TOON ADVENTURES

The kids and teens of the 90s were pretty happy and fortunate with the stuff that came out on TV and for games.

Plataforma: NES Desenvolvedora: Konami

And in this batch, we have a sensational drawing that was released in the 90's. I'm talking about Tiny Toon, which yielded several episodes that that were hilarious, several games on various systems. And here I'm going to talk about the first game, which was released for the NES.

Lançamento: 1991

Tiny Toon Adventures was a game developed and published by Konami and was released in 1991. It was the first game in the franchise to be released for a video game console. And keeping all due proportions, he drinks from the fountain of Super Mario Bros. 3 in terms of gameplay and level style. But this is not a criticism: the game was very good and fun. You have to go to the end of the level without taking damage. If the player finds a heart, this changes.

And the story of the game is as follows: One day, Buster is relaxing at his house watching TV, when Montana appears on the screen, saying that he has captured Babs and is holding her captive in his mansion. And he plans to feed her to the sharks, so Buster sets out to save his best friend, with the help of her companions.

THE CHARACTERS OF THE GAME

BUSTER

DIZZY DEVIL

PLUCKY

FURRBALL

He is the main character besides being the one who can jump the highest and is also the fastest.

Our mini Taz has llots of behavior problems and can use his whirlpool to eliminate all of the enemies.

Our apprentice Daffy Duck comes with his humble personality and his ability to swim and fly.

Furrball is the last of the game's helpers. He has a great skill, which allows him to climb walls.

There are six worlds in the game, with three levels each: The Hills, The Wetlands, The Trees, Downtown, Wackyland (which has only one level) and Montana's Mansion. Hamton appears to help, giving an extra life for every 30 carrots that have been collected. For that, you have to find the hidden door in the level. The second level in each world ends with an enclosed area, where the player must avoid Elmyra and exit through the door; if the player is caught, they must start the world over. The third level in each world has a boss battle. And Duck Vader, along with two of his minions who are dressed as Stormtwoopers, are secret enemies in the game. And the way to find them is as follows: The number of carrots the player collects must be any multiple of eleven. So he will appear and the player will fight Duck Vader. If you manage to defeat him without losing a life, you will receive three extra lives. Lost the game continues normally, but you can try again.

Bottom line: Tiny Toon Adventures is the first of several games in the franchise to hit consoles, and you can say it got off to a great start. Here we have a game that has everything the design brings: its charismatic characters, great gameplay and detailed and well-made graphics. Tiny Toon Adventures is guaranteed fun.

ADVENTURE O Atari 2600 RECEBe a sua maior aventura Por Luciano Coelho

Adventure was developed by Atari for the Atari 2600, and released in 1979. It was inspired by the text game Colossal Cave Adventure, and is considered the first action-adventure game on a console. Game creator Warren Robinett was also the first to insert a well-known "easter egg" in video game history.

Warren Robinett was delighted with Colossal Cave Adventure so he decided to turn it into a video game for the Atari 2600. And that was an idea that didn't really please his bosses at the time, who didn't like the game's innovative concepts. They thought it was too complex and just wanted games that were repeated in search of higher scores, betting on the trivial.

The game's story is about an evil sorcerer who stole the Enchanted Cup and hid it somewhere in the kingdom.

“So what I did was I ignored my boss and so I worked in secret developing a good prototype of Adventure. And then, when I was able to demonstrate to the bosses that my idea was viable, I got the green light to work on this project,” said Warren Robinett. It's that story: If you believe and think you can get there, you should never get discouraged with the first no. Show what you're capable of. Who knows?

The player controls an adventurer, represented by a square on the screen, who must explore this labyrinth in search of the Chalice and return it to Golden Castle, its place of origin. But the task will not be easy, as the sorcerer has created three dragons to finish off the adventurers who will try to recover the cup. Adventure sparked players' imaginations like no other game had. It put us on an epic adventure, exploring labyrinths, passing through enchanted castles and facing dangerous enemies and dragons along the way. It was an epoch-making game in many ways. If you died, the item you were carrying was in place of your death for you to recover. But the enemies you killed also returned, including the Dragons. Are you up to the challenge? Venture out!! You will not regret.

SEGA SEGA SATURN SATURN

Por Luciano Coelho

Virtua Cop is a game from 1994 developed by Sega AM2 and designed by Yu Suzuki. It was originally an Arcade game on the Sega Model 2 system and it was released for the Sega Saturn in 1995. And the game supports Virtua Gun (Stunner) and Saturn mouse, and had a new Training Mode, which is nothing more than a randomly generated shooting gallery. The game also supports Sega Saturn controller. It even has a button that makes the crosshairs move faster, which helps a lot. That was actually the way I played it. And I can say that even this transition to control was very well done. You can play quietly and have fun. As for the pistol, I only played in Arcade. And Virtua Cop was the forerunner of the “On Rail” style of Shooter. When it was released back in 1994, the game broke new ground by introducing the use of 3D polygons in the shooting genre. And some of the popular Virtua Cop-influenced “On Rail” shooters include Time Crisis, The House of the Dead series, various Resident Evil spin-offs, and also Dead Space: Extraction. And here's a very interesting fact: Virtua Cop was also the main influence of GoldenEye 007. That's what you read. GoldenEye 007 was originally envisioned as a Virtua Cop-like Shooter On Rails, before becoming the game we know today. And Producer Martin Hollis revealed in an interview: “We ended up with innovative gameplay, in part because we had Virtua Cop features: a weapon that only had seven bullets and a reload button.

VIRTUA COP Plataforma: Sega Saturn Desenvolvedora:

Sega

Lançamento: 1995

When we press the R button on GoldenEye 007, it practically switches to Virtua Cop mode.” This is the level of importance that the Virtua Cop series has in the gaming world. So it's time to talk about the game itself, right? Let´s go !!.

In Virtua Cop, you can play as Police Officer Michael Hardy or his partner James Cools. Playing in a first-person perspective, players will use the Stunner Gun or controller, this in the Sega Saturn version, to shoot criminals and advance in the game. We start with a six-round pistol and a certain number of lives. Taking a shot causes the player to lose a life; and power-ups can be landed to grant the player a special weapon or even an extra life. There are also civilians that the player needs to be careful not to injure during the game. And if that Arcade's Port of Virtua Cop for the Saturn was highly praised by publi- happens and hits a civilian, the player cations at the time and players alike. And this is very easy to underloses a life. The special weapon will be stand when playing. I confess that I was very surprised and happy at lost if the player takes damage, but not the time, because it was a very faithful port of Arcade, it's just very if he shoots the civilian. Players can short. receive extra points for "justice shots" (disarming an enemy without killing And playing on the controller works very well, as not everyone had the them by shooting them in their hand) money to buy Stunner and not every video store rented the game from and the "bullseye", shooting at the it. So I was glad that this mode was included in the game. center of the target.

Virtua Cop is one of the best and funniest Sega Saturn games. And it's still as fun today as it was when it first came out. Virtua Cop was a huge influence on the gaming world and brought us two great games on the Sega Saturn. It's a shame that the console didn't have the success it deserved, as this made the game feel a little limited. But if you have the opportunity today, I recommend you don't miss it. Fun is guaranteed.

MEGA DRIVE Por Luciano Coelho

At a dinner party after the first day of CES in Las Vegas in 1990 Ed Annunziata and Hugh Bowen along with Al Nielsen, Sega's Director of Marketing, started talking and there Ed and Bowen saw the opportunity to reveal to Nielsen about Ed's idea of a new game he had in mind. Ed Annunziata was a self-taught programmer from New York and he was the first producer to be hired by Sega of America. his first jobs were localizing Sega of Japan games.

ECCO THE DOLPHIN Plataforma: Mega Drive

But after a while, Ed Annunziata started producing his, own games.

,

Desenvolvedora: Sega Lançamento: 1992

The game starts with a dolphin and his friends swimming in the bay. And then all of a sudden, a huge weird giant waterspout forms and sucks all the marine life out of the bay except Ecco, leaving him alone in the bay. Ed was working on Spiderman vs the Kingpin when he had an idea for a game about life. But it wasn't life as we know it, it was life at the bottom of the sea, as seen by a dolphin.

So, with only his sonar, he sets out to try to find out what happened to his friends and how to get everything back to normal.

.

Ecco will set off on a journey where he will come across exotic and centenary animals, millenary scenarios and even pay a visit to the famous city of Atlantis.

ECCO THE DOLPHIN

Ed Annunziata was inspired by the book The Fouding, by scientist John C. Lilly, who researched the communicative ability of dolphins, and he was also the creator of the "sensory deprivation tank". During the 1970s, John Lilly became addicted to ketamine and so he began to believe in the existence of the group of extraterrestrial entities, which was known as the Earth Coincidence Control Office (ECCO). And it was the inspiration that helped Annunziata build the world of Ecco. And let's start with the graphics and visuals of the game: They are simply wonderful, starting with its opening: rays of sunlight break through perfect white clouds and we have a brilliant blue sky. Suddenly, a family of dolphins appears jumping frantically giving an acrobatic show through the waters full of life. This is Ecco's world. The graphics are clean, well detailed and colorful. They impress us right away, besides, of course, all the life forms we see in the ocean, like whales, sharks, jellyfish... It is truly a treat when you see the level of detail and quality that went into bringing the ocean of Ecco to life.

ECCO THE DOLPHIN

Ecco is unlike anything you've ever seen. It is a game that mixes strategy, adventure, action, in addition to having the fantastic story as a backdrop. And the result of all this is a totally innovative game, with an adventure game style. And everyone who played it agrees on one thing: Ecco The Dolphin is an extremely difficult game. No help, get ready. There are 25 levels, and some are quite long, for you to go through. In addition, we also have some puzzles to solve, puzzle your way to the exit in various water mazes... It's not easy. And one of the rare aids you'll have during the game is the map. It appears when you press and hold the A button. ,

, In addition, Ecco also has to come up for air, like all dolphins, and he can eat some fish to recover his energy during the journey.

As it does so, Sonar goes back and forth, implying that it has scanned the entire environment around Ecco. In addition to it we have the Gliphs, which are crystals scattered across the ocean . that contain the knowledge of the Atlanteans, and which indicate what to do or where to go.

ECCO THE DOLPHIN

Ecco can also communicate with other dolphins and whales via sonar and "talk" to them in order to continue his mission.

And Ecco received two more games for the Mega Drive: Ecco The Tides of Time and Ecco Jr. The game has also been ported to other consoles such as the Master System and Game Gear.

For example, at one point in the game, a dolphin will ask for Ecco's help to find his lost family. After scouring the level looking for them and finding them, our hero Dolphin will receive a sonar that can confuse sharks or slow down their movements. Remembering: at the beginning of the game the sonar is only for communication. A tip: In the quest to save the baby whales, you will need to find 3 baby whales. There's a fourth hatchling near the level exit that will give you the sonar upgrade. DO NOT fail to get this puppy before you pass this stage. You're welcome. ;)

A Sega CD version was also released, with new levels and an alternate soundtrack. Fun fact: the soundtrack, especially the SEGA CD version, was so impressive that it is considered by many, to this day, as one of the most perfect soundtracks ever created for a game. A group of musicians called Pixel Mixers had their careers so deeply influenced by the ECCO score, that they created a tribute album to the game, called Timeless Ocean. And this album is distributed for free on the internet and has influenced many other artists.

Ecco The Dolphin is one of the most well-crafted games ever made. Its story, combined with accurate and well-tuned gameplay, with graphics that are simply beautiful make the complicated journey worthwhile. Ecco may not be a game for everyone, but those who venture out won't regret it.

GAME BOY ADVANCE

Por Luciano Coelho

I unfortunately couldn't get a Gameboy Advance at the time. But I was lucky enough to be able to play on some friends.

And thanks to that, I know I missed out on many of the wonderful games on the console. But thanks to emulators I can run after the lost games that I didn't get a chance to play. Because among these games I discovered the best Double Dragon of all that have been released. It's not an exaggeration. I'm talking about Double Dragon Advance.

DOUBLE DRAGON ADVANCE Plataforma: Gameboy Advance Desenvolvedora: Atlus Lançamento: 2003

Double Dragon Advance was released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance. It was published by Atlus and developed by Japanese studio Million. It's a remake of 1987's Double Dragon, but it has elements from all the sequels and the home versions. The elements are new stages between the original stages of the game, to be more precise, four, in addition to some blows and weapons coming directly from other games in the series.

The story is the one that is already known: the player takes control of the 2 martial arts master brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee, as they fight against members of the Shadow Warriors to save Billy's girlfriend Marian. And Double Dragon Advance can be played either alone or with another player via the Game Link Cable. It's choosing an option and beating them. And I'll tell you this: the beating rolls with style in this game.

And I say this because the amount of combinations impressed me. We have a punch button, a kick button, a jump button and a defense/counter-attack button. But when you combine the buttons you'll discover new moves like headbutts, grappling rear kicks, knees and much more. It's the most complete, perfect and addictive Double Dragon I've ever had (and still have) the pleasure of playing. And who designed Double Dragon Advance was Muneki Ebinuma, a former Technos employee who had already worked on the series, on Super Double Dragon, for the SNES and on Double Dragon for Neo Geo. And we can say that he had the thinking of a fan of the series while working on the game.

Ebinuma created Double Dragon Advance as a way to preserve the legacy of the original Double Dragon. And in the meantime he made up for the shortcomings of the games in the series he had worked on before. That's why this game's fighting mechanics closely mirror those of the original arcade, which were combined with various elements from the NES and Super Double Dragon games, from SNES. And playing you realize that he really achieved what he wanted. You can say that Double Dragon Advance is the best of the series.

Double Dragon Advance is the definitive game in the franchise. This is clear in my humble opinion. It has everything a fan of the series could want. Great controls, beautiful and vibrant graphics, a wide variety of enemies, lots of hits, weapons... Anyway, it's the beating in the best Double Dragon style of being. I recommend it.

The PlayStation 1 has several great games that have become classics. Whether for its story or its gameplay. And we also have those that have no explanation. And one of those is Jackie Chan Stuntmaster. And it's not that the game is bad. On the contrary, so much so that it became one of the console classics. And it's hard to find a person who had the PS1 and hasn't played it or doesn't remember the game. And they always remember with a nice nostalgia to tell everyone. But it is justified.

JACKIE CHAN STUNTMASTER Plataforma: PS1 Desenvolvedora: Radical Ent. Lançamento: 2000

And anyone who has watched a Jackie Chan movie knows that one of the coolest parts was the bloopers at the end, as everyone knows Jackie didn't use stunt doubles in her movies. And to increase this closeness even more the Producer put this in the game. When the game is This was not the first game that finished, several videos are Jackie Chan starred in. Since the released with the recording 8-bit Generation, passing through errors and also showing the Arcades, he was already participrocess with the motion pating in several games. So why capture that was made, did Jackie Chan Stuntmaster including scenes from the become this PS1 classic? beginning of production. We also have the Red Dragon It's even quite simple to undermasks. When collecting 10, stand why: The game is a lot of we have a bonus phase fun. Also, no game has placed the player inside a Jackie Chan movie as seamlessly as Jackie Chan Stuntmaster. All movement and action in the game was captured by Jackie Chan himself, including the voices. And that made the player really feel inside the game and in the shoes of Jackie Chan, thus increasing the fun.

So why did I say that I can't understand why it ended up becoming a PS1 classic at the beginning of the text? For the simple fact that the game was very weak, graphically speaking. It had very little detail in the polygons and the CG that told us the story was boxy, and much uglier than the game's graphics. And the control wasn't the best, but the gameplay and fun were so sensational, we didn't care about it. And few games can achieve this. The game's combat is quite varied. In addition to kicks and punches, we can jump, grab and even counter-attack our enemy. The amount of blows that exist in the game is even impressive for the time. Another strong point of the game was that we could use various things in the scenario to be able to attack enemies. Among the options, we have brooms, chairs, tables and even a swordfish, as well as sticks, frying pans and more.Exactly like Jackie does in her movies. On top of that, we hear him talking the entire game. And the game's story? Jackie works for her grandfather as a delivery boy and has to deliver a package to the Shaolin Temple of Martial Arts. And his grandfather is kidnapped and he loses the package. Now he will have to rescue his grandfather and still retrieve the package. Jackie Chan Stuntmaster is still as fun today as it was at the time of its release. It deserves its place among the greatest beat'n ups classics ever made. And it proves that the game doesn't need wonderful graphics to be fun and amazing.

Gamers was a differentiated Magazine and in Issue 28 it brought us many, many strategies and walkthroughs with the usual quality. In that edition, the cover game was Resident Evil 2. The walkthrough for this edition is Claire's part and the walkthrough for Leon's part is left for the next edition.

And the walkthrough was impressively complete with all the tips that are necessary for the player to do well in the game, in addition to bringing all the game's secrets. In this edition we also had quite complete strategies of Grandia with all the tables of weapons, armor, accessories and everything necessary to do well. We had the last part of the Wirld Arms walkthrough and much more. Gamers put on a show in this part.

________________ In SuperGamepower in September 1995, we had an article about what would be Nintendo's biggest novelty and what turned out to be one of its biggest failures: The Virtual Boy. The Virtual Boy had a 32-bit processor and two glasses-shaped screens and was supported on a tripod. It offered 3D graphics in red and black, and was an attempt by Nintendo to capitalize on the "virtual reality" fad that was raging around the world at the time. But it failed miserably. At the time, the SuperGamepower team even tried to get excited about it, but even they already had their reservations about the console, especially with the two colors. Apart from its price here in Brazil, practically making it difficult for anyone to have the courage to pay to see it. And this is a good thing.
