GROUND:UP The South Bronx, In New York City, is marked by ongoing gentrification, leading to a lack of

pride

from

the

locals-majority

latino

and black-to where they live. The following housing proposal aims to revert this trend by creating a hub that will harness democratic economy and strenghten the local identity.

The design was conceived from the ground up. The ground floor is destined to community resources and local commerces that are linked to anchor insututions in the Bronx. The shophouse typology allow the owners of small businesses to live in the complex. Finally, The massing creates density in mound-shaped volumes, allowing less shadow projection area onto the facade, maximizing the number of units with access to sunlight and ventilation.

UNITS AND SWITCHES The units range from studio to three bedrooms.

Where the volume is linear, they follow typical designed layouts. In the ‘mounds’, the units become customized, changing per floor.

Where there is a switch on corridor paths, the adjacent rooms become community rooms, such as art rooms, computer and laundry rooms.

VARIANT SCHOOL This project introduces a new pedagogy to the school based on Montessori education, focusing on the individuality of the student and sensorial sensitivity. Operating with an outside-in approach, new topological structures

were

strategically

introduced

to the current building. They create new field conditions, taking into consideration light, movement, and accumulation. Overall, the new P.S. 64 should create a ludic and stimulating

environment

that

Journey through the park Lucas Pereira

This proposal interprets the Kitesurf School as part of a whole, transforming it into more than a singular touristic feature, but as an invitation to explore what lies beyond. The idea develops from a monolithic volume that dissipates in a gradient line across the park, naturally forming different structures for resting and appreciation. The one hosting the Kitesurf School reflects the ethereal quality of the landscape. Its radial plan alludes to a kite, and the fabric tent is a dynamic feature, being sensible to the wind flow.

STUDENT HUB This proposal is destined for firstgeneration

college

students

in

the

Upper West Side of New York city.

Ultimately, it performs as a catalyst for creating a mutual and perpetual sense of belonging between students and community. These hubs are placed on the rooftops of existing residential buildings,

breaking

their

exclusivity

and hosting a student housing and a community garden.

THE UPPER WEST SIDE The Upper West Side today belongs to white high-icome people. Most of them have at least a bachelor degree.

The current demographic is the result of a history of gentrification that dispersed the black and latino community that once lived there before the 60’s.

Bringing this community back through the young generation is a way to transform the neighborhood into a more accessible and diverse enviornment.

UIA RIO In 2021, Rio de Janeiro will host the International

Union

of

Architects

(UIA) conference. The following design won the second prize in a national architecture competition to choose the design of the promotional stand built in the 2017 edition in Seul, South Korea.

The core idea is to translate the identity of Rio (one with a strong natural silhouette) so the visitors can feel the athmosphere of the city and be compelled to visit the city of Rio.

CANVAS The following project is part of the final thesis presented in 2016 at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do

Norte.

The

thesis

approached

parametric design theoretically through the design of a cultural pavilion in the city of Natal, Brazil. The project provides a space for the public to gather and for spontaneous events to take place in a city that lacks public space.

The building structure and enclosure reflect

its

programmatic

character

which becomes a great canvas with a flexible structure to host both small and large public events.

THE MODULE Following the linearity of the site, a twisted stripe module was designed to cover the volume.

Variables tested included the rotation, spacing, thickness and width of the modules.

BIKE STATION This project was awarded the first place in a national architecture competition for students organized by Projetar.org for a bike station located in the city of Recife, Brazil.

This underutilized site was previously undeveloped and is centrally located in the downtown area. It is adjacent to a train station and a cultural center and important streets.The aim for this project is to maximize the sites centrality, transforming a trasient place into a destination and amenity for the public.
