1

Striking Wastewater The Village Water Center reclaims sewer water by tapping into a nearby wastewater line. The water is pumped into an initial, small sealed storage tank that prevents odors from escaping.

2

Initiating the Treatment Process Water is pumped from the collection tank to a set of bioreactors and hydroponic beds that provide a medium for microorganisms to grow and feed off of nutrients in the water.

3

Moving Outdoors The partially treated water moves into outdoor hydroponic beds that put the process on display in the public realm and create an intriguing feature in the adjacent greenspace.

Finishing the Holmes GreenWay green infrastructure and remaining active edges.

The Cascade MAX line offers a direct connection to the center of the neighborhood from Quality Hill and Pendleton Heights. Dedicated bus lanes along 10th Street increase the efficiency of the public transit system, making it easier to get from point A to B. The corner of 10th and Holmes serves as the hub of the neighborhood, blending public space, green infrastructure, retail, and transit.

Currently the site holds 1,555 space of parking that primarily serves the surrounding office buildings. Cascade at East Village would increase that number to 3,768 spaces to accommodate the increase in residents, workers, and visitors to the area. By utilizing a district parking system, residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize alternative means of transportation, promoting walkability and reducing emissions.

Phase II - Finishing the Complete Green Street

Chilled Water Distribution The 12th Street Chiller Plant distributes chilled water to buildings on 13 blocks. After a heat exchange process, warmed water returns to the plant where it is cooled again. The Village Water Center replenishes lost water to the system.

6 7

Green roofs increase in an area lacking in trees, cooling the surrounding air and introducing a pleasant micro climate. Additionally, these spaces can be used for residents and workers for leisure and relaxation.
