LTA VOICE

From April 6–9, 2025, Lambda Theta Alpha hosted its ninth annual Lambda Hill Days in Washington, D.C., bringing together a cohort of 16 members committed to civic engagement and policy advocacy. This year ’ s participants focused on key legislative areas including immigration, mental health, education reform, reproductive rights, and voting rights—issues that directly impact their communities. In preparation for their advocacy, the cohort completed two virtual mock sessions led by the Political Education and Involvement (PEI) Committee and participated in an in-person simulation hosted by Voto Latino to sharpen their strategies and boost their confidence.

They effectively highlighted the needs of their communities through compelling personal narratives and a commitment to driving change. The experience was further enriched by a special meet-and-greet with Yadira Sanchez, Executive Director of Poder Latinx and member of Theta Chapter (Spring 2007), who reminded the cohort that true advocacy extends beyond Hill Days through sustained grassroots efforts at home.

NATIONAL MEDIATION PILOT PROGRAM AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING

This year, with the support of dedicated assistants, we launched the Unity Mediation Pilot Program a conflict resolution initiative designed specifically for Lambda Theta Alpha The goal of this program is to provide members with tools to address conflict early, constructively, and with care, preventing issues from escalating into judicial matters

Rooted in LTA’s core principles, the Unity Mediation Pilot combines concepts from legal mediation and arbitration with elements of psychology and emotional intelligence. As part of this initiative, we introduced the Unity Advisor Certification, a mandatory 2–3 day training program that includes rigorous instruction, testing, and hands-on practice. Advisors must successfully complete this training before being officially listed as certified Unity Advisors.

This program reflects our commitment to fostering a culture of proactive leadership and sisterhood-centered conflict resolution. We are proud to offer this resource to our members as a supportive, principle-based approach to addressing challenges. Congratulations and sincere thanks to all newly certified Unity Advisors for their commitment and service to our community
