Hello, Coyotes!
As you know, we recently faced a particularly difficult challenge with the flooding in our community. We stand with those of you who were affected and will assist in any way that is necessary.
Never forget, we are one LSC.
Now, we prepare to send off a new group of graduates next month who we know will do great things.

RIBBON CUTTING FOR NEW COLLEGE ACCESS CENTER
The College Access Center is now officially open. A ribbon cutting was held last month to mark the occasion. The College Access Center is a renovated space shared by the TRIO and Mi Familia, Mi Futuro grant programs. The Center will provide activities such as Career and Certification chats, financial aid bingos, ESOL information sessions and College Student Support orientations It is located in APA (Administrative & Performing Arts Building) in room 200.
The opening of the center represents the culmination of collective efforts to remove barriers for students and families in their pursuit of higher education. You can find more pictures from the event here.

2024 SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTION
The 12th annual Scholarship Reception was held Thursday, April 18th at LSC-Kingwood. Campus President Dr. Melissa Gonzalez led the program. Music student and scholarship recipient Andres Aristimuño Millan played a lovely arrangement on the piano during the breakfast. Dr Gonzalez recognized and thanked donors for their generous contributions of scholarships to the students Four students scholarship recipients spoke about how these scholarships changed their lives: Dontavia St. Julien, Nicola Merritt, John Paul Marconi, and Abigail Dittman.

PHI THETA KAPPA 2024 INTERNATIONAL CATALYST CONVENTION AWARDS
Incredible achievements for our LSC-Kingwood students at the 2024 Catalyst Convention of Phi Theta Kappa in Orlando, Florida The chapter, Alpha Lambda Xi, was fortunate to have 5 students attend, joining nearly 3,000 students from around the world. The chapter was recognized with several prestigious awards:
-Top 100 Chapter (awarded to the highest scoring chapters based on the Honors in Action and College Project entries from 1250+ chapters)
-Distinguished College Project Award (awarded to the 50 highest scoring College Project entries in all of Phi Theta Kappa based on the "Welcome to the Coyote Family: East Aldine Center Outreach Project")
-Distinguished Chapter Advisor Team: Dr. Matthew Newton and Dr. Jared Miller
PHI THETA KAPPA INDUCTION
Congrats to the latest group inducted into the Honors College Phi Theta Kappa society. The group has a total of 59 new members. Sixteen of them were able to participate in the formal Induction ceremony last month. The PTK Advisors are Dr. Matthew Newton and Dr. Jared Miller. We can’t wait to see all the great things they will do!

TRIO SSS AWARDS
Students in the TRIO SSS program were recognized for their achievements last month Thanks to Chancellor Mario Castillo and Dr. Melissa Gonzalez for attending the ceremony in support. Congrats to the Students of the Year: Stephany Olguin, Melissa G. Nava, Nataly Torrijos, Michael Aybar, Alexis Valladares, and Ruben Canales.

THE CODY AWARDS
The annual Cody Awards was held to recognize outstanding students nominated by professors and staff members. The event included music, Hors d'oeuvres, and a walk down the red carpet. Drama Professor Eric Skiles emcee’d the event. Congrats to all the students who were nominated! LSC-EAST ALDINE CENTER FIRST CMA COHORTS BEGIN
Lone Star College-East Aldine Center has its first two Cohorts for the new CMA (Clinical Medical Assistant) Bilingual Health Program. The program is one of the projects being funded by a $250,000 grant. The TRUE (Texas Reskilling and Upskilling Through Education) grant was awarded by the THECB (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.)
The grant will also provide funding for the following projects: establishing a new healthcare lab, program outreach, student financial support, and workforce advising/job readiness support

BEATLES SCHOLAR & FORMER KINGWOOD HS GRAD SPEAKS AT LSC-KINGWOOD

World-renowned Beatles scholar and former Kingwood High School graduate Dr. Kenneth Womack visited Lone Star College-Kingwood to promote his new book last month.
Dr. Womack is the Professor of English and Popular Music at Monmouth University in New Jersey He gave a presentation at LSC-Kingwood on why the Beatles will always matter and spoke on his new book, “Living the Beatles Legend: The Untold Story of Mal Evans ”

More than 80 people attended the Curious Minds Lecture, including faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

SOLAR ECLIPSE VIEWING

The partial solar eclipse was a bit of a bust for faculty, staff, and students who stepped outside to view it Unfortunately, the clouds were too thick to get a good look. Better luck next time!
CREATION STATION
SPRING FLING

The LSC-Kingwood art gallery set up a collage creation station for students, faculty, and staff. We found these students making some masterpieces. What a nice way to relax and get those creative juices flowing!

Students at LSC-Kingwood enjoyed crawfish, camaraderie, music, and games during the Spring Fling. Apparently Coyotes love their crawfish! More pictures here.

WE ARE ALL A PIECE OF THE PUZZLE EVENT
The Office of Human Resources hosted an event for employees: “We are all a piece of the puzzle.” They provided pizza and staff also had the chance to work on a puzzle. Thanks to our HR folks for a fun event!


DAAP WALK-A-THON
the Office of Human Resources also hosted a walk-a-thon to encourage employees and students to “walk away from drugs and alcohol ” After completing the walk, visitors could spin to win a prize, and pick up some snacks!




EARTH DAY EVENT AT THE LEARNING GARDEN
The weather couldn‘t have been more perfect for the Earth Day Event at the Learning Garden. The event was sponsored by the Garden Club. Faculty, staff, and students enjoyed food, crafts, and educational activities.

KMS STUDENTS CREATE GARDEN BEDS AND BIRDHOUSES FOR LSC-KINGWOOD LEARNING GARDEN
Some Kingwood Middle School students made it their mission to help revamp the LSC-Kingwood Learning Garden. They, along with the guidance of their teacher, built raised garden beds and birdhouses for the Garden. Bluebirds have already laid eggs in one of them.
Garden Club Advisors Dr Jamie Turner, Lilian Hulett and Amy Kocurek thanked the teacher and students for their collaboration.

“Through their hard work and enthusiasm, they have not only created beautiful additions to our surroundings but have also demonstrated the power of teamwork and community spirit. Their efforts will provide opportunities for education, recreation, and conservation for years to come The initiative taken by both organizations exemplifies the importance of collaboration and learning beyond the classroom wall, stewardship and the willingness to contribute to the livable forest. “

VISCOM PORTFOLIO SHOW
Students in the visual communications program at LSC-Kingwood showed off their portfolios during the annual Viscom Portfolio Show. During the event, they pitched their ideas and businesses. You can see more of the student portfolios here






MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS “SONGS OF DREAMS & DESTINY”
The LSC-Kingwood Music Department held its spring concert to showcase the immense talent of its music students. The Concert Choir presented “Songs of Dreams & Destiny.” Dr. Todd Miller was the conductor and Dr. Robert Hunt was the Collaborative Pianist. As always, the choir wowed the crowd with their musical abilities.

KINGWOOD BIG BAND AT BACK PEW BREWING
The Kingwood Big Band wowed the crowd at Back Pew Brewing in Porter. The band is made up of community members and directed by LSC-Kingwood Adjunct Professor Dennis Eichler.

GRADUATION CAP DECORATING PARTY
Soon-to-be Grads decorated their caps in preparation for the big day! Thanks to Student Life for hosting this event and providing supplies.




LSC-ATASCOCITA CENTER PUPPIES & POPCORN



There was a "pawsitively" amazing event at LSC- Atascocita Center - to help student destress before finals. More than 70 students showed up to snuggle some sweet pups. Thanks to "Paws for Therapy" for sharing the puppy love The Atascocita Center staff also provided popcorn to students as a fun treat ahead of finals

LSC-EAST ALDINE CRAWFISH BOIL
LSC-East Aldine hosted a Crawfish Boil on campus. It was a big hit with students and staff alike. Thanks to Student Life for their support!




ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH EVENTS:
Student Life hosted several events to highlight Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Students got creative with Asian-inspired paintings. Art Professor Mari Omori shared about the history of boba tea and students were able to sample some of the unique drink.




SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

Students took time to create powerful messasges on T-shirts to promote sexual assault awareness and prevention. Thanks for showing your support, Coyotes!


CHANCELLOR’S FREE LUNCH FOR STUDENTS
A big thank you to Lone Star College Chancellor Mario Castillo for providing hundreds of free lunches to students at our LSC-Kingwood campus and Centers. What a wonderful way to support our students!






CAT CENTER: TRANSFER FAIRS & DRESS FOR SUCCESS

The Career and Transfer Center hosted a Transfer Fair, Dress for Success, and Career Fair events last month at LSC-Kingwood and East Aldine Center. The events were designed to help students with everything from their next steps on their educational journeys to tips on how to dress to land that dream job.

INTERNAL AUDIT AWARENESS EVENT

A retirement party was held for two LSC-Kingwood English Professors who will be leaving the college at the end of the semester. Dr. Darlene Beaman has been a professor for 11 years here at Kingwood. She was the English Department Chair for several years and is the club advisor for the Poetry & Songwriting Club. Dr. Joan Samuelson has been teaching at Kingwood for 40 years. Both professors are founding faculty members. We know they have touched many lives - from fellow faculty to staff and students - and we wish them the best in their retirement

COMCAST LAPTOP DONATION
A huge thank you to Comcast for generously donating 100 computers to the Lone Star College Foundation. The Dell Latitude computers were donated to the Foundation and are being distributed to LSCKingwood students.
“At Comcast, we know that technology is the foundation for success in the digital economy. We are thrilled to help students who experience financial barriers have the full benefits of technology and wish these students all the success in the world,” Misha McClure, Director of External Affairs, Comcast's Texas Region, said.
For the spring semester,13 students received computers. The program will continue in the Fall 2024 semester until all the laptops have been distributed via a student application and orientation process. LSC-Foundation and LSC-Kingwood are grateful to partner with Comcast and look forward to future projects together to support LSC students and our future workforce.

RALLY UP 5K RACE
Thanks to all who came out to support our student veterans in the Rally Up 5K at LSC-Kingwood. Even Chancellor Mario Castillo came out to run the race. The event raised $610!






COYOTE BASEBALL UPDATE
Congrats to our LSC-Kingwood Coyote Baseball Team. They finished the season 5-13 and were 5th in the Conference. Looking forward to the next season!

TENNIS UPDATE


Congrats to our LSC-Kingwood Tennis team! They placed 3rd in the LSC-Conference Tournament. Way to go, Coyotes!
