Tuchman explained her process - how she takes the vintage postcards and then highlights different parts with various mixed media objects such as hand-painted paper quills, beads, sequins, stones, trinkets, and thread. Tuchman said her art is hard to classify.
“I’ve always been hard to classify because some people think these are fine art, some think they’re fine crafts, they’re scrapbook, I mean it depends on people’s take.”
She also had some advice for art students
“I hope that the students find their voice Part of the problem with art school is you techinncally have to learn how to do a lot of different things, but then you have to figure out how to use those skills to say something unique, which is not easy. And also students have to get a really thick skin about rejection and believing in your own work and you just keep doing it.”
