Youtz Alumni Showing Leadership, Excellence, and Community Pride

This year’s open house at Madge Youtz Intermediate School was a great celebration. We kicked off the year with an Open House party that was sponsored by Love the Children Ministries, with the support of Nate Chester and his barbershop, Chester’s Mop Shop. As a McKinley graduate (and former Youtz “Yak”), Heather Craig made a decision to give back to her community. She started a foundation while in her freshman year of college at Malone University. As a result, Love the Children Ministry came to life in 2004. For the past five years, this group has been helping and supporting Youtz students and families. This year alone they donated over 500 notebooks, 200plus earbuds, styluses, tons of reams of paper, colored pencils, glue sticks, crayons, scissors and more supplies for all of our students. They have also supported our families at the holiday times by providing two personalized gifts for over 250 children. This year for the Open House, they provided pizza for everyone who attended and we had over 120 families sign in for the event. They also arranged for a local face painting artist and balloon twisting artist to entertain our students and their siblings. But it did not stop there! They also provided Kona Ice for all in attendance, as well as had the local firefighters with their equipment to talk with our families. It was a great success! To the delight of our families, we also were very fortunate to get the donated time and talents of Nate Chester and his barbers from Chester Mop Shop. While his group is not part of the Love the Children’s Ministries, he is an alumnus of Youtz. Nate and his men provided free haircuts to any student who wanted one. He also plans on starting a “Books with the Barber” Club with us at Youtz. We can’t say thank you enough to our alumni. They impress us every day. It just shows that Bulldog Pride is Citywide!
