WORD 1 absolutely really totally very incredibly

WORD 2 interesting awesome cool thrilling hilarious

Example: absolutely + hilarious → The movie sounds absolutely hilarious. Ask each other what you would like to watch. • What do you think we should watch? • I think we should watch My Good Friend Cooper. • Why is that? • Because it sounds absolutely hilarious. • I agree / I disagree.

Ask each other

Decide which movie you're going to watch together. _______________________________________________________

3 Tell the other groups about the movie you have picked. Example: We have picked My Good Friend Cooper. It's a comedy. We want to watch it because it sounds absolutely hilarious. It’s on at 6.30.

4 Before watching the movie, you need to get the tickets. Look at the chart to see which movie is playing where. Buy your tickets. Example: • How can I help you? • I need three tickets, please. • Do you want to sit in the front, in the back or right in the middle? • We would like to sit in the front, please. • Then you are in Theater 1, row 2, seats 8-10. 7 Read the lines from different movie genres. Match the lines with the genres. You can match a line with more than one genre. I'll be right back. _________ 7 Let me out! _________

8 Explain your answers in pairs by using these sentence starters: First of all … / Second of all … On the other hand … Example: I’ll be right back. I think this could be a horror movie. First of all,, it sounds like the person is walking into danger. Second of all,, I’ve heard this line in a horror movie before. What's your rating?

After watching The Hole, Ben rates the movie and writes a review. You can read his review here:

BEN’S REVIEW

The Hole

Spoiler alert! In my opinion, this movie is awesome. First of all, it’s really creepy. You never know what’s going to happen next. Second of all, it’s a really interesting story with a bad-ass main character. At one point, she is locked in a dark room for ten hours without panicking! I really liked the scene where she lost her phone and couldn’t contact anyone outside. I was not a big fan of the ending on the staircase. I would have liked more details, but luckily the ending didn't ruin the rest of the movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good scare, and who is not afraid of dark places and strange noises. It’s a good idea to watch this movie with your friends and not alone!

CHALLENGE! Find all the descriptive words and expressions Ben uses to talk about the movie.

Mind your manners!

Don’t forget to go to the bathroom before the movie starts! And remember to be on your best behavior so that everybody can enjoy the movie. 1 Divide the chunks into good and bad behavior. IT’S ALL GOOD

IT’S A NO-GO

Talking to your friend Texting on your phone Having a sip of your drink Having a bite of your snack Going to the bathroom Standing up Changing seats Laughing out loud Falling asleep Turning off your phone Throwing stuff on the floor 2 Let’s play charades! One person stands up in front of the class and mimes a behavior from the list. If you guess the behavior, tell the others what you think about it. Example: Talking to your friend is good/bad behaviour.

3 We’ve all done things from the no go list at some point. Write about a time you weren’t on your best behavior at the movies. Do you remember what movie you were watching? Read your stories aloud in your groups or in class. ___________________________________________________________________________ When I went to the movies to watch ,

Did you get it? A What comes next? Write numbers so that the activities happen in the order you prefer. Practice telling about your choices. Maybe you can record a sound file. Write a review Find your seats Watch the movie Get tickets Use the bathroom Get snacks Invite your friends to the movies

REMEMBER! Use the past tense when talking about things that have happened. I watched a movie yesterday. Use the future tense when talking about things that haven’t happened yet. Next time, I'm going to invite my sister.

Hear about the movie Turn off your phone Watch the trailer

B Lights, camera, action! • In groups of four, make a short scene from one of the four movies playing at Movie Max. Use a smart phone. Think about: – Which genre is it? – What's the story? – Who's in the movie? – Where does the movie take place? – Which items do you need? • Write and practice your script before you film your scene. • Show your scenes in class and guess each other’s movies.

Chapter 2 In the kitchen The kitchen is the heart of the house. We spend a lot of our time at home in the kitchen – and you’re about to spend even more time there today. In this chapter, you will • discuss your favorite kind of food • prepare a menu • think about kitchen safety, and • come up with your own recipes. So, put on your apron and let’s get cooking! But first: listen to Salima talk about her kitchen adventures.

• Why did you call me? • I need your help. I'm in such a pickle!

Ask each other about the activities you've added. • What else do you do in the kitchen? • I sometimes take a nap in the kitchen. • Really? Me, too! / Really? How odd!

2 Write about three of your classmates’ own activities: Example: Johan sometimes takes a nap in the kitchen. ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________

Healthy food or comfort food?

It's important to eat healthy food if you want your body to feel good. But eating healthy doesn’t mean eating salads all the time – it means eating a varied diet. You need different types of food that have vitamins, proteins, fats and fibers in them. But sometimes you just want to eat food that makes you happy – even if it’s not that good for you. This type of food is called comfort food. Vitamins are found in fruit and vegetables.

Proteins are found in meat, eggs and beans.

Fats are found in nuts and

Fibers are found in bread, pasta

fish.

and rice.
